    Q
I want to spray my cenipede lawn to kill sand burrs. Is this the product I need?
    A
Hi-Yield 2, 4-D Selective Weed Killer cannot be applied on sensitive grasses such as Zoysia, Centipede and St. Augustine. To prevent sandburs you should apply Barricade as a pre-emergent in the late fall. Be sure to read over the Barricade product label to make sure your grass species is listed as a tolerant variety. Sandburs are easier to prevent than to try to get rid of once they have invaded your yard.

    Q
Spraying around fruit trees with exposed roots
I have a lot of growth around my fruit trees (apple, pear and peach} and most have exposed roots. I'm mostly wanting to kill the poison ivy as I can't use the weed trimmer on it without getting it on me. Would it harm the trees or the fruit?
    A
Hi-Yield 2, 4-D Selective Weed Killer is labeled to only kill broadleaf weeds and should not harm mature trees.  Be sure none of the roots are cut before applying the product so the tree does not absord the weed killer.  Another option would be to use the all natural Avenger Weed Killer Concentrate which is OMRI listed and approved for Organic Gardening and Organic Production by the USDA.

  • Asked by Linda from Dawson, Il
    08/05/2014
    Q
    Use of Hi-Yield 2,4-D
Desire: 1. To spray around shrubs. 2. Kill poison ivy n flower bed by painting leaf with brush. 3. To kill weeds under large trees.4. To kill wild grape vines. I've just heard of your product and I am excited to use it! I've adapted a cylindrical device at the end of my sprayers, to limit coverage of spray pattern n stop drift. Will spray penetrate the ground around shrubs and harm shrubs? How long does your weed killer last? Do you have a weed killer and pre-emergent combo spray? If not, do know of one? Thank you.
    A

Hi-Yield 2, 4D Selective Weed Killer is labeled for use on lawns, around ponds, drainage ditchbanks, pastures and rangelands. It should not be used on shrubs. It should not penetrate the ground and kill the shrubs. It should last for the entire season but if not, another application can be made after 30 days.

For a pre-emergence and post-emergent combination, we would recommend using Dimension 2EW. You will use .33 - .73 fl. oz. per 1,000 sq. ft. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.
