Details

Weeds Controlled or Suppressed:

Annual Bluegrass (Poa annua), Chickweed (Commonand Mouseear), Crabgrass (suppression only), Cransbill, Cudweed, Dichondra, Florida Betony, Henbit, Knotweed, Lespedeza, Moneywort, Mustards, Narrowleaf Vetch, Parsley-Piert, Pennywort (Dollarweed), Sandspur, Smutgrass, Spurge, Spurweed, Swinecrest, Woodsorrel and various annual clovers.

Established St. Augustinegrass and Centipedegrass:

This may be applied during both dormant and growing seasons. Best results are usually obtained when applied in early Spring or dormant periods when weeds are small or have not emerged. Do not apply more than two treatments per year. This controls Spurweed, Florida Betony, Annual Bluegrass and many other problem weeds in St. Augustinegrass and Centipedegrass turfs. This will control both emerged weeds and weeds from seeds. Rain or water within 2 or 3 days of application may decrease the effectiveness on emerged weeds. However, for the control of weeds from seeds, rainfallor watering is necessary within 7 to 10 days after treatment.

Spurweed:

Control of Spurweed can best be obtained by applying when Spurweed has newly emerged(December and January.)

Florida Betony:

This weed emerges in the Fall. Apply this product in mid to late October followed by a second application in mid to late February.

Dichondra, Moneywort:

Apply this product in early April followed by a second applicationin July. Note: Applications for Spurweed or Florida Betony generally will give control or suppression of the other listed weeds. However, as a general rule, this product will give best control when applied to young tender weeds or just prior to weed emergence.

WARNING: This product can expose you to chemicals including Atrazine, which is known to the State of California to cause birth defects or other reproductive harm. For more information go to https://www.P65Warnings.ca.gov

    Trying to kill Pennywort

    By Gary on 05/30/2012

    Verified Purchase

I sprayed the Atrazine as directed and it didnt kill the Pennywort. I waited a week and a half and sprayed some areas again and also some new areas. After another 2 weeks and a couple of rains I noticed some of the Pennywort was dead, but much of the grass around the sprayed areas was dead as well. In general, it killed more grass than Pennywort.

    Atrazine

    By John on 12/29/2014

    Verified Purchase

Doesn't seem to be working so well. Thought it worked on st. Augustine grass. weeds are still there and don't seem to be dying

    Expert ResponseExpert response:
It will be tough to use almost any post-emergent herbicide this time of year. Atrazine will provide the best control when weeds are young or just prior to weed emergence. If the weeds are not actively growing, then you will see limited results.

    Really a weed killer

    By Andres on 02/04/2015

    Verified Purchase

After fighting with a pest control service for months without results, and my front grass getting worse, I decide to try Atrazine which they said they wouldn't apply. It worked nicely and even in the winter months I cant see any sign of getting back in the weeds. I took my pest control in my own hands and I hope to use many more products as time goes by.

Q
Can I use Atrazine on Kentucky Bluegrass?

I want to kill Poa Annua and thought KBG would not be harmed if Hi-Yield Atrazine Weed Killer is safe on St. Augustine lawns.

A
Atrazine is not labeled for use on Kentucky Blue Grass so we cannot recommend you use it for this type of application. Most products that are labeled for poa annua cannot be used on KBG. We recommend that you spot treat the poa annua using a non-selective herbicide such as Killz All Grass and Weed Killer. Your best option for poa annua is to use a pre-emergent herbicide in the Fall such as Hi-Yield Turf & Ornamental Weed & Grass Stopper with Dimension. It will prevent the poa annua seed from germinating into weeds. It will not kill existing weeds and it is safe to use on KBG. Apply the granules and water in after application. Repeat treatment in Spring to prevent other grassy and broad-leaf weeds in your yard.

Do you have to use 4 gallons of water with the 16 oz of product or can it be sprayed with say 2 gallons of water without damage?
A
It is very important to follow the directions on the product label or you do risk getting uneven coverage and damaging your lawn. If you only have a two gallon sprayer perhaps you can mix up 8.6 fl oz into two gallons of water cover 1,000 sq ft.

Q
Why do the instructions on Hi-Yield Atrazine Weed Killer state to only use this twice a year?

My once-beautiful yard has been taken over by florida betany. It's the plague! Atrazine is the best herbicide I've found to kill it, but I've had to use it more often than twice a year, more like four times, twice in the Fall and twice early Spring.

A
The EPA gets to decide how often a chemical can be applied. They usually make this decision based on how long the product lasts in the environment, what kind of damage can be caused by over application and many other technical factors.

Q
How much Atrazine do i need for 1-1/2 A of sweet corn?
A

Hi-Yield Atrazine Weed Killer is not labeled to be used around corn.  We are not as familiar with products that are safe to be used in agricultural areas as we are new to that side of products. We recommend contacting your local department of agriculture to get recommendations that local farmers use for weed and grass control in crops. Once they give you a product name or ingredient, give us a call and we would be more than happy to see if we carry it or can get it for you.
