    Q
I am trying to kill crabgrass in my centipede lawn will Hi-Yield Atrazine Weed Killer kill it?
    A

Hi-Yield Atrazine Weed Killer will suppress crabgrass, but it may not completely control it with one application, it can take multiple treatments. The best time to treat for post-emergent control is when the weeds are young and actively growing, usually when temperatures are between about 55 and 85 degrees. Please refer to the product label for a complete list of plants controlled and for full application directions. You will want to apply spring and fall pre-emergent herbicide applications to prevent many broadleaf and grassy weeds from germinating. Here is a great article on crabgrass treatment and prevention as well as one for centipede turf care.

    Q
Will Hi-Yield Atrazine Weed Killer kill spear grass in St. Augustine?
    A

Hi-Yield Atrazine Weed Killer is not labeled to control spear grass. Unfortunately there is not much information on how to control this grass. You may either consider spot treating with a non-selective such as Roundup QuikPRO - 5 x 1.5 oz. packs or double checking with your extension office to see if they know of anything else that may work

    Q
After the Hi-Yield Atrazine Weed Killer is applied, what action is required after that?
Little knowledge of lawn care here! Do I just wait for the weeds to die? When can I apply an ez seed? Trying to get my centipede grass free of crabgrass (there's lots of it!) and want to make sure I'm doing the right thing!
    A

There is no action required after an application of Hi-Yield Atrazine Weed Killer. You should allow 10-14 days for plants to show signs of dying. According to the product label: Rain or water within 2 or 3 days of application may decrease the effectiveness on emerged weeds. However, for the control of weeds from seeds, rainfall or watering is necessary within 7 to 10 days after treatme

    Q
Can Hi-Yield Atrazine Weed Killer be used by itself or in combination with prodiamine in Miami FL this time of year (January)?
Already applied my first round of pre emergent of dithiopyr (Hi yield turf & ornamental weed & grass stopper with dimension) in November. Was planning on throwing down some prodiamine next this month (January). Is it recommended to also throw down a pre emergent with atrazine at the same time or wait some time and if wait, when is optimal time to throw down atrazine as pre emegerent in south Florida? Thanks
    A

Hi-Yield Atrazine Weed Killer should be used as instructed on the product label. Hi-Yield Atrazine Weed Killer is to be mixed with water only. Combinations with other chemicals in the application mixture are not recommended. For the best time to apply these products, we would recommend contacting your local cooperative extension office as they will have information for your specific region. There is no wait time between applying this product and a pre emergent such as Prodiamine.

    Q
When to apply Hi-Yield Atrazine Weed Killer on Mississippi GulfCoast.
    A

The best time to treat with Hi-Yield Atrazine Weed Killer depends on if you are using a pre-emergent or post emergent application. For post emergent control it is best applied when weeds first start to emerge and are young.  For pre-emergent it needs to be applied before target weeds geminate..  You may contact your local cooperative extension office to determine the correct timing of the application as this will vary greatly from region to region.

    Q
When to fertilize after Atrazine sprayed early March?
St Augustine yard got sprayed with Atrazine early March. Location is New Orleans. When do I fertilize my yard and is a typical
    A
Fertilization helps to keep your lawn healthy and maintain that desired green color. It's important to apply fertilizer at the right time of year and at the right amount, otherwise you will end up with a mediocre lawn. Over-fertilization can cause random patches of long grass, giving your lawn an uneven look. Under-fertilization can cause sparser, less full looking lawns, and makes it easier for weeds and disease to take hold.
We recommend using a soil analysis test kit or taking a sample of your soil to your local cooperative extension so your soil can be analyzed to determine what nutrients your soil is lacking. The healthiest, hardiest lawns are fertilized 2-4 times per year, fall, summer, early spring and late spring. When fertilizing in the spring you can choose to use a "weed and feed." These products contain both a fertilizer and a pre-emergent herbicide.

    Q
Can I applied a Weed n Feed following an application of Hi-Yield Atrazine Weed Killer on St. Augustine?
I want to fertilize my St. Augustine after applying Atrazine.
    A

You could potentially use BioAdvanced 3 in 1 Weed and Feed For Southern Lawns on your St. Augustine lawn. We suggest waiting at least 1-2 weeks after applying Atrazine since the BioAdvanced product includes a post-emergent as well as pre-emergent herbicides.

You can also always purchase a separate fertilizer if you do not need other herbicides at this time. We have more tips and product suggestions in our St. Augustine Care Guide here.
