    Q
Will Hi-Yield Triclopyr Ester kill all kind of woody brush and some soft vines that have taken over my bermuda grass yard?
    A

Hi-Yield Triclopyr Ester can harm bermudagrass, as it is labeled to help supress it in lawns where it is not a desired turfgrass.  Monterey Brush and Vine Control is labeled to treat over 50 woody plants and vines and is not labeled to kill grass.

    Q
Can Hi-Yield Triclopyr Ester be mixed with Tenacity?
Can Hi-Yield Triclopyr Ester be mixed with Tenacity to kill their respective targeted weeds?
    A

You can mix Hi-Yield Triclopyr Ester with Tenacity for post-emergent weed control. This combination is recommended for control of tougher weeds including clover and wild violet as well as additional control of common Bermudagrass and black medic, per the supplemental label here.

We still recommend this as a spot treatment only. This combination should be used only on tall fescue, Kentucky bluegrass, and perennial ryegrass.

    Q
Will Hi-Yield Turflon Ester Ultra kill cottonwood trees?
We have small Cottonwood trees coming up in our yard. neighbors cut down live cottonwood.
    A

No, Hi Yield Turflon Ester Ultra is not labeled specifically to eliminate cottonwood trees.

We would recommend using Monterey Brush and Vine Control for cottonwood trees. It is recommended that you use a surfactant with the product so that it coats the plant better and eliminates them.

  • Asked by Arlynn from Liberty Township, Oh
    04/05/2021
    Q
I'm trying to get rid of creeping myrtle with out kiilling my KGB. What product is best for this?
    A
There are not a lot of products on the market labeled for creeping myrtle (also known as vinca minor and periwinkle flowers) as they are typically considered a desirable plant species. In general, most products that would harm traditional broadleaf weeds, or that would be labeled for wild violet or other woody stem based weeds would be able to control the vinca/myrtle within 1-2 applications. You can go with Triclopyr Ester if you want to try to see if it will control it, or to get a wider range of weeds that may be in the lawn along with the myrtle, we would suggest something like Q4 Plus Turf Herbicide. Its safe for kentucky bluegrass and covers an extremely wide range of weeds like crabgrass, nutsedge, etc.

  • Asked by Stephanie from Tustin, Ca
    03/05/2016
    Q
    Will Turflon Ester hurt roses?
After spraying our grass, my roses show stress and droop. Is it possible that over spray has harmed them? If so, can this be reversed?
    A

The Turflon Ester label does not state any precautionary instructions for roses, but does advise, " Very small quantities of spray, which may not be visible, may seriously injure susceptible plants. Do not spray when wind is blowing toward susceptible crops or ornamental plants that are near enough to be injured. Spray drift can be reduced by keeping the spray boom as low as possible; by using higher volume sprays and lower pressures; using nozzles that deliver larger spray droplets; and by spraying when wind velocity is low."

We recommend contacting your local Master Gardener for help and recommendations on what products to you use and when the best time fram for treatment is to help reverse any damage done.

  • Asked by Scott from Herington, Ks

    Q
What can I use to kill all the Bermuda grass starting to take over my K31 grass lawn?
Grass is well established is a 10 year old lawn and the Bermuda grass is starting to grown on the edge is a 3 foot by 25 foot area, chocking out my K31 grass
    A

Bermuda would be considered a grassy weed, so you need a product that is geared towards grassy weeds and not broadleaf weeds.  We want to be clear that bermuda can be suppressed, but it is VERY difficult to kill completely.  It will take multiple treatments to finally kill it.  HI-YIELD Turflon Ester Ultra herbicide could be used to do so.

  • Asked by Amar
    01/01/2018
    Q
Can I kill a banyan tree with Hi-Yield Triclopyr Ester Ultra?
    It is a huge tree.
    A

We have been unable to find any articles that list that triclopyr can be used for stump treatment of banyan trees specifically. A typical stump treatment would involve first cutting down the tree, and then treating the fresh cut stump by brushing on an herbicide such as Fertilome Brush Killer and Stump Killer rather than the Hi-Yield Triclopyr Ester Ultra. This article suggest burning the stump after creating a trench around the base and roots, however, we recommend checking with your local Department of Agriculture as to what is allowed in your area regarding burning. Either way, the tree would first have to be cut down before herbicides or other techniques could effectively prevent regrowth.

    Q
Does Hi-Yield Triclopyr Ester work on Johnson grass?
    A

Hi-Yield Triclopyr Ester is not labeled to treat johnsongrass. It targets broadleaf weeds. Gordons Ornamec Over-The-Top Grass Herbicide will kill johnsongrass around established listed ornamentals. Ornamec will control Annual Johnsongrass seedlings (sorghum halepense) when 2 to 8 inches tall, before tillering or heading. It will control perennial rhizome johnsongrass that is 8 to 18 inches tall and before booted stage, per the product label. You may need multiple applications for more mature plants. We also suggest using a pre-emergent herbicide in the future for the best control of Jonhsongrass and many other difficult weeds. Prodiamine 65 WDG is safe to use around most turf and ornamentals. If treating the grass in the lawn, please provide the desired turf species for a recommendation.
