Monterey Brush and Vine Control is herbicide that controls unwanted brush, vines, and stumps that may be creeping in on your landscape. Monterey Brush and Vine Control can help you get rid of dangerous vines like poison oak and poison ivy, and is to be used around homes in residential areas and is safe for pets once application is dry. It will kill tree stumps and prevent sprouting.
Monterey Brush and Vine Control is recommended for the control of unwanted woody plants, vines, and broadleaf weeds around homes, cabins, fences, walkways, and other non-crop areas.
May be used with Herbicide Helper (a surfactant) to help stick on the plants.

Apply as a full-coverage foliar spray when plants are leafing out and actively growing. Thorough coverage of the plant is necessary. You may also want to use a surfactant (Herbicide Helper) to enhance control. Apply 4-8 ounces per gallon of water. Use the higher rate on older hard to control species. Spray at the rate of 1 gallon of spray mixture per 500 sq ft. To kill tree stumps: Apply undiluted to freshly cut tree stumps with a paint brush or as a spray. This will kill the stump and prevent re-sprouting. |

Foliage Spray
Using a hose-end or tank sprayer, mix 8 to 16 tablespoons (4 to 8 fl. oz.) in enough water to make one gallon mixed spray. For mature or hard-to-control plants (such as ash, blackgum, choke cherry, elm, maple, oak, pine, or winged elm), or during drought conditions, use the highest rate of application indicated. Resprouting may occur in the year following treatment when lower rates are used. The addition of a surfactant (spreader/sticker) enhances herbicidal action and improves distribution of the spray on hard-to-wet plant surfaces. Apply at the rate of one gallon mixed spray to approximately 500 sq. ft. of area. Coverage may vary depending on the amount of foliage to be treated. Using coarse spray pattern and low pressure, apply as thorough foliage spray to wet all leaves.
Stump Treatment
To kill stumps and prevent sprouting, apply the undiluted product with a paint brush or by using a backpack sprayer to completely cover the freshly cut surface. Do not reuse paint brush. Wrap in several layers of newspaper and discard in trash.
Vine Control
When treating vines such as poison oak, poison ivy, etc. that grow on or around desirable plants, do not allow spray to contact desirable vegetation. Cut the vine first and treat as directed for stump treatment.
Do not use on or around edible crops. Avoid drift or spray onto desirable plants. Keep people and pets away from the area until the spray has dried. Rainfall within 24 hours may reduce the effectiveness. Slow acting taking 1-6 weeks for control.

Effective on blackberries

Works well on my main target----blackberries. The only downsides are true of all products: you must have patience. It can take 4-5 weeks to get a good kill. Also, according to most at department sites, it's most effective late summer to early autumn when there are still a lot of dried up berries for birds and critters. My best results come from physically cutting down the vines in spring or early summer and spraying the new growth 2-3 months later. Definitely use some spreader-sticker in the mix.

Monterey Brush & Vine Control is for woody plants/brush and vines and is not labeled to kill grass.

Per the Monterey Brush & Vine Control label: Do not apply this product directly to, or allow to drift to, grapes, vegetable crops, flowers, ornamentals, or other desirable foliage. Applications should be made when wind is low and there is little chance of spray drift.
We would recommend cutting any vines growing around desirable plants, flowers, ornamentals, etc and applying to the directly fresh cut surface using a paint brush or wiping technique. Do not spray this product within the drip line of any desirable plants.
Monterey Brush & Vine Control is not labeled to control or kill azaleas however per the product label, this product should not be around vegetable crops, flowers, ornamentals, or other desirable foliage.
For best results, apply as a full coverage foliar spray when brush and weeds are fully leafed out and actively growing. Wilting or other symptoms will occur in 1 to 6 weeks. Apply only when the air is calm to prevent drift to desirable vegetation.
