    Q
Will rats retreat from area before dying or die inside home and smell?
Just want to know if rats die inside walls, behind cabinets and cause a smell and odor in home.
    A
When using Kaput Rat & Mouse Bait, along with any other rodent bait, there is no way to pinpoint where the rodent will die. They could, unfortunately, die anywhere - under couch, in walls, etc. The only way to guarantee where the rodent dies is to use traps such as the T-Rex Traps or Victor Tin Cat Mouse Traps.

    Q
Are bait stations necessary when using Kaput Rat and Mouse for voles?
In other words do the bait stations assist in the eradication of the voles or are they for the protection of humans and other animals?
    A

Utilizing bait stations is important when using Kaput Rat & Mouse Bait - 32 placepacks. This will ensure that people and pets will not be able to get to the bait. The bait stations are not quintessential in the eradication of the rodents.

Mice: Open pack and apply 1/4 to 1/2 ounce of bait per placement at intervals of 8 to 12 feet. Maintain a fresh supply of bait for 15 days. Voles: Open pack and load one ounce (half of a pack) of bait into each bait station. Situate bait stations near runways, burrow openings or plants that voles have been damaging. Maintain a fresh supply of bait for 15 days. Use a tamper-resistant bait station when children, pets, or non-target wildlife are present.

  • Asked by Stan from Utica, Mi
    03/15/2017
    Q
Can Kaput Rat & Mouse Bait be used in an insulated attic? There is no danger to people or pets.
    A

Baiting with products like the Kaput Rat & Mouse Bait inside and in attics is really not recommended as you cannot control where a rodent is going to die after consuming the bait. When doing so you do run the risk of having the rodents die in an inaccessible area which of course could cause an odor issue for a short time period (and perhaps even an insect issue).   We recommend using glue boards and traps indoors for rodent issues instead.

  • Asked by Jacob from Stockton, Ca

    Q
How far out from a building can I place a rodent bait if the label dose not specify?
I am talking abut Kaput rat and mouse bait 32 packs. The COVERAGE AREA you have listed on your website is 50 ft. However I am wondering if this might be changed to 100 since many other product labels have changed from 50 to 100. I have been searching for the law that relates to this which use to be posted just about everywhere but now I can hardly find a article about it.
    A
The Kaput Rat and Mouse Bait packs should be placed within 50 feet of a building to control the mice, rats or voles in the area. They do not generally travel more than 50 feet outside of the building so that is why they advise that you use them within 50 feet of the building. If you have any additional questions, please contact the manufacturer directly at 866-442-3467.

    Q
Does Kaput Rat & Mouse Bait attract domestic pets by its smell?
In other words we will keep our dogs away from it if we decide to use it, but is there something in it that attracts them to it by smell if for some reason they were to get loose & it was still in the vole tunnel.
    A

Kaput Rat & Mouse Bait does have food based ingredients to attract rodents.  When used directly in burrows the label states to cover treated runways or holes with a shignle or board or ground vegetation if present.  Check placements daily and remove any fouled or spoiled bait and replenish if vole activity and interest in bait persists.

    Q
Will birds eat the Kaput Rat and Mouse Bait?
    A

Kaput Rat & Mouse Bait is extremely toxic to mammals and birds. Dogs, cats and other predatory and scavenging mammals and birds might be poisoned if they feed upon animals that have eaten this bait. Do not apply directly to water, or to areas where surface water is present or to intertidal areas below the mean high water mark. Bait stations are mandatory for outdoor, above-ground use. Tamper-resistant bait stations must be used if children, pets, non-target mammals, or birds may access the bait.

  • Asked by Nikki from Casa Grande, Az
    03/03/2021
    Q
Could I just put the loose Kaput Rat & Mouse Bait anywhere I see activity?
I live next to open fields with a neighbor who has bird feeders, so I constantly have mice in my house. Can I just open the pouches and put the loose bait on a dish inside cabinets (not where food is stored, obviously) and other areas where I've seen activity? Or does it need to be contained inside a bait station? (Which I have never caught a single mouse in, ever.)
    A

Rodenticides must be used in tamper-resistant stations or otherwise secured out-of-reach of non-target animals and children. We would not recommend applying Kaput Rat & Mouse Bait - 32 placepacks indoors. Here are the application recommendations:
Rats: 2 - 8 placepacks per bait placement in intervals of 15 - 30 feet in infested areas. Maintain a fresh supply of bait for 15 days.

When placing bait inside of tamper-resistant bait stations, the rodents can come and go out of them. You will not trap rodents in the stations unless you were to put a glueboard or snap trap inside of the station.

For rodents inside, it is best to use snap traps and glueboards so you can control where they are going to die. You should also seal up all cracks and crevices where rodents may be able to enter the structure. Tamper-resistant bait stations with a rodenticide outside would also help if they are  coming and going. We have some guides here that can help as well

    Q
What is most effective way to control voles?
Have them around our walkway and out in the yard.
    A

One popular method for controlling voles, is to gas them using our popular product called Giant Destroyer which is basically a smoke bomb you set off in the burrow hole of the vole which will kill anything in the burrow. Another method, is to pour bait down the burrow hole for the vole to eat. Kaput Rat & Mouse Bait is also labeled for voles. Please refer to the article below for helpful tips.

  • Asked by Bob from Bryson City, Nc

    Q
Is Kaput Rat & Mouse Bait safe to use in raised vegetable beds?
My raised garden beds are from 24 " to 30" high. Voles are nesting in them. If I put bait low in the beds (12' to 18" or more below surface) will vegetables absorb poison from bait or from dead voles? How long will smell persist?
    A

Kaput Rat & Mouse Bait is not labeled to be used in gardens or soil for voles.  Per the product label: all applications for controlling voles must be made in tamper-resistant bait stations.  So you can use around the perimeter in stations.

    Q
Will Kaput Rat & Mouse Bait kill Prairie dogs?
I have moles and prairie dogs. If I treat to try to control the moles, wouldn't prairie dogs also be attracted to this as a food source and possibly eat it if it is in their feeding area? Or does this product not attract prairie dogs? I only want to get rid of some moles, not the prairie dogs.
    A

Kaput Rat & Mouse Bait is not labeled to control moles or prairie dogs.  As it does contain food based ingredients non-target animals can be attracted to the blox, but outside it would only be used tamper-resistant bait stations as directed on the product label. This limits non-target animal access.

Moles would not be attracted to it at all as it is used in stations above ground and they feed on live insects such as earthworms and grubs. Talpirid Mole Bait is the most popular bait for moles themselves. When used directed on the product label, will be applied to areas that will for the most part be inaccessible to non-target animals.

    Q
Can Kaput Rat & Mouse Bait Rodenticide be used inside a residential house?
You say this "This may only be used inside..." then when someone asks about using it indoors you say you don't recommend it. What gives?
    A

We don't recommend using Kaput Rat & Mouse Bait Rodenticide inside the home because the rodent may die inside one of your wall voids and then you will be left with a horrendous odor and possibly a secondary insect infestation.  It can be used in and around homes per the label, however we don't recommend it.
