  • Asked by Bradley from Battle Creek, Michigan

    Q
Can I till up my lawn if I used Milky Spore Lawn Spreader Mix in it this past Spring?
Want to till area and wondering what it'll do for the coverage of the milky spore.
    A

That would not affect the Spring application of the Milky Spore Lawn Spreader Mix. However, if you will be doing another treatment this Fall we would recommend tilling before you do that application. It would give the product better coverage and adherance that way to stay in the area where it was originally put.

    Q
Should we cut or water the grass before applying Milky Spore?
    A

You can wait up 36 to 48 hours before watering in the Milky Spore. Make sure you water the Milky Spore before raking or mowing your lawn. The whole idea is to soak the Milky Spore into the soil where it will become available to grubs feeding on the roots of grass. Simply use an oscillating hose sprayer for 15 to 20 minutes over the entire treated area. There may still be some white residue but this is chalk used as carrier for the spores.

    A
The Milky Spore is not a product that can normally be found in local stores. You have to purchase it from an online retailer like ourselves, or you can possibly find it in a Feed & Seed type of store or a plant nursery. We offer free shipping on the Milky Spore and to the northeast regions it is normally a delivery time of 3-4 business days.

  • Asked by Carol from Conroe, Tx
    08/07/2021
    Q
Is there an ambient temperature that is too hot to apply Milky Spore?
    A

Technically, Milky Spore Lawn Spreader Mix can be applied at any time the ground is not frozen, but the manufacturer recommends applying it around Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day, just to have dates in mind to help you remember as this needs to be applied 3 times a year for 2 years. It is not effective until grubs start to feed on it and spread it more through the area after dying.

  • Asked by Pamela from Longview Texas
    08/19/2021
    Q
What alternative product for grubs would you recommend other than Milky Spore since it can't ship to Texas?
    A

Yes, Milky Spore Spreader Mix is not registered in the State of Texas so that is why we are not able to ship the product there.

If the grubs are actively feeding, you may use a product such as Dylox 6.2 Granules. If the grubs are not actively feeding, you will want to use a product that provides more residual control, and you may use a product such as Merit 0.5 G Insecticide Granules.

Please be sure to review the product labels before applying and our How to Get Rid of Grubs Treatment Guide for more information.

    Q
How should I apply this to gardens and landscaped areas if I can't get a drop spreader in the area?
    A

Milky Spore Lawn Spreader Mix may be difficult to do a proper application by hand as it is an extremely fine granule, that is why the drop spreader is needed to apply over each square foot. We would suggest contacting St. Gabriel Organics at directly at 540-672-0866 for advise on how to apply their product in areas where a drop spreader will not reach by hand. The Milky Spore Lawn Spreader Granules do require six applications usually in Spring,, Summer and Fall for  2 consecutive years to build up the one area to one million spores.

The Milky Spore Powder may be a better option as this uses a lawn dispenser tube to apply in a checkerboard pattern. One 10 oz container will treat 2,500 square feet and one 40 oz container will treat 10,000 square feet.

  • Asked by Isidro from Mcallen

    Q
Do I apply Milky Spore Lawn Spreader Mix just under the infected area or on the entire lawn?
    A

When using Milky Spore Lawn Spreader Mix, you will apply the product to the entire lawn. This product should be used 3 times per year for two years (6 applications total) at the rate of 20 lbs per 7,000 sq ft. Once established, Milky Spore will stay in the ground for 15-20 years.

There is also Milky Spore Powder which is applied only once, but this is a more tedious application. Keep in mind that neither application will give you immediate results since it can take 1-3 years for the product to establish fully.
