    Q
How long does it take for Milky Spore Powder to work?
    A

Milky Spore Powder begins working as soon as it is applied as long as grubs are feeding. Once grubs are infected they will multiply the spore by several billion times and spread it further. In warm climates good control can occur in one to three years. In colder areas, it may take three to five years. Once established in a lawn, Milky Spore has been known to last 15 to 20 years.

    Q
Why is the bag inside out in my box of Milky Spore Powder?
I just received my order of Milky Spore and the bag in inside out so we cannot read the info. We have the box, but would also like to read the label on the bag. Any suggestions what we can do being that we shouldn't breath in the product?
    A

We do apologize for any confusion! The manufacturer recycles bags to be safer for the environment, so sometimes this can happen.  We do have the Milky Spore Powder product label on our website here.

    Q
When can I apply Milky Spore if I applied Grubex earlier this year?
I applied Grubex to my lawn on June the 3rd of this year. If I apply Milky Spore now, will the two products neutralize each other or has enough time passed that I can apply Milky Spore??
    A

Milky Spore can be put down any time the ground isn't frozen, regardless of what other products you are using.  However, if all the grubs have already been eliminated by another product, the spore will not have the ability to spread.  If there are no grubs in the soil to consume it, it cannot multiply.  The Grubex will not make the spore itself ineffective, it will just hinder the spreading process until more grubs appear.

    Q
When is the right time of application of Milky Spore Powder in New England?
    A

Milky Spore Powder can be applied any time the ground is not frozen since it will need to be watered in, but you generally get the best results applying April through November. You may get faster control with Milky Spore when applying in the Spring and late Summer, when grubs are actively feeding. Keep in mind that complete grub control may take 3-4 years.

  • Asked by Gary from Springfield, Mo
    04/23/2018
    Q
Does Milky Spore Powder need to be watered in or will the next rain be sufficient to get the spores into the soil?
    A

Milky Spore Powder needs to be watered in to soak the spore into the soil where it will become available to grubs feeding on the roots of grass. If no rain is expected, you can use an oscillating hose sprayer for 15 to 20 minutes over the entire treated area. There may still be some white residue but this is chalk used as carrier for the spores. If light rain is expected and it will not be a heavy rain or washout, this can also water the Milky Spore into the soil. Be sure to water the spores in before raking or mowing the lawn.

    Q
Can I apply Milky Spore if it is going to rain the next day?
Would the rain wash away or decrease the effectiveness of the product?
    A

Milky Spore Powder does need to be watered into the soil with rainfall or irrigation after application, so rainfall actually helps the Milky Spore to reach the grubs in the soil. If you has so much rain and flooding that the soil was physically removed from the area and needed to be replaced, then we would recommend reapplying in those areas.

    Q
Is the application process for Milky Spore Powder different than for Milky Spore Lawn Spreader Mix, applied with a drop spreader?
I'm confused, I spread milky spore with a drop spreader in april this year. Now I have milky spore powder and was planning on using the application shaker for two more applications instead of the drop spreader. But, now I'm reading you need only spread the powder once? Are you able to clarify for me?
    A

The application is different for Milky Spore Powder and Milky Spore Lawn Spreader Mix. Milky Spore Powder is applied using the Lawn & Garden Dispenser Tube. This only needs to be applied once. The Milky Spore Lawn Spreader Mix is applied with a drop spreader. This is applied three times a year for two years.

    Q
What happens if it does not rain after I have treated the yard with Milky Spore Powder?
I need to treat about 4 acres of yard so I will be dependent on the rain to wet the powder.
    A

You can wait 36 to 48 hours before watering in the Milky Spore. Make sure you water the Spore before raking or mowing your lawn. The whole idea is to soak the Spore into the soil where it will become available to grubs feeding on the roots of grass.

  • Asked by Roz from Westfield

    Q
After I use Milky Spore Powder for grubs, can I then put down grass seed?
Do I have to peel back all the dead grass from the grubs to put down milky spore, or can I put it right on top where all the dead grass?
    A

Milky Spore Powder will not affect your grass seed. It is not a poison of any kind. If you have dead grass that needs removed prior to seeding then this should be done so the seed has better contact with the soil in that area.
