    Q
Can you use a sprinkler to water in Milky Spore Powder?
    A

Milky Spore Powder needs to be watered in to soak the spore into the soil where it will become available to grubs feeding on the roots of grass. If no rain is expected, you can use an oscillating sprinkler for 15 to 20 minutes over the entire treated area. There may still be some white residue but this is chalk used as carrier for the spores. If light rain is expected and it will not be a heavy rain or washout, this can also water the Milky Spore into the soil. Be sure to water the spores in before raking or mowing the lawn.

When is the best time to apply Milky Spore Powder?
    A

Milky Spore Powder can be applied any time the ground is not frozen since it will need to be watered in, but you generally get the best results applying April through November. • Asked by Donna from Los Angeles, Ca

    Q
Will Milky Spore applied now in early April protect my less than one year new lawn?
Or is there something I should use that will more immediately address the problem? I live in Los Angeles. We've had a warm winter and already had an over 90 degree day in early April. Our grubs are quite large.
    A

Milky Spore Powder can be applied anytime the ground is not frozen and will only start to be effective when the Japanese Beetle Larvae start to feed, so now would be a good time if you are already seeing activity.

    Q
When do I apply Milky Spore Powder? What can I kill the bugs with because they are destroying my hibiscus.
Its eating the flower blooms off my hardy Hibiscus. What can I kill them with ? NEEM Oil does not work . They are hard to get off and they they come right back to the flowers . Please Help !
    A

Milky Spore Powder should be applied 3 times per year.  The manufacturer recommends applying around Labor Day, Memorial Day, and July 4th just to make it easy to remember when to apply.  However, this product can be applied at any time of year as long as the ground is not frozen.  Keep in mind that Milky Spore Powder will treat Japanese beetle grubs only.  It is a good idea to get an identification of the pest you need to treat so that you can be sure you are choosing the best product for your needs.

  • Asked by Sue from Hollis, Nh
    07/28/2018
    Q
Can we apply beneficial nematodes now and Milky Spore for longer term protection?
We have a pretty bad infestation so I don't think any one method will wipe them out completely.
    A

Milky Spore will not interfere with nematodes or any other beneficials or insecticides. It is a bacteria that only spreads through Japanese beetle grubs. If you are using a product that will kill the grubs directly, then we recommend using the Milky Spore first so it has time to start establishing through the existing grubs and then applying the insecticide at least 2 weeks later.

    Q
Should we apply Milky Spore every year? Or is once enough?
If applied milky spore last fall, is best to apply it again next fall?
    A

Milky Spore Powder is designed to be a one-time application, although it may take several years for the bacteria to establish completely in cooler climates. It would not hurt to apply the product again, however it is not necessary for success.

    Q
I applied Milky Spore Powder 1 year ago and now seeing evidence of beetle damage this year. Can I apply again, or wait?
    A

If a complete application of Milky Spore Powder was done a year ago, there is no need to do a follow up application. In warm climates good control can occur in one to three years. In colder areas like New England, three to five years. Once established in a lawn, Milky Spore has been known to last 15 to 20 years.
