How to Apply the New York Mosquito Control Kit - Economy
STEP 1 - SANITATION
Because mosquitoes need water to lay eggs and develop, finding and eliminating water sources is a crucial step in managing mosquito populations.
*Check for areas where rainwater collects such as bird baths, flowerpots, gutters, rain barrels, pool covers, animal drinking water receptacles, deep hollows in trees, standing puddles, and any other areas where water may collect. Minimize water collection and empty these containers as you are able, and treat other standing water with larvicides (see STEP 2).
*Keep trees and shrubs pruned and grasses short to reduce areas where moisture is retained and adult mosquitoes like to rest.
*Remove or reduce piles of yard debris to reduce harborage areas.
STEP 2 - LARVICIDE - Bonide Mosquito Beater WSP
The Mosquito Beater WSP are water-soluble packets that contain Bacillus Thuringiensis Israelensis (Bti), a natural toxin to mosquito larvae.
*Packets will dissolve in standing water, although they may be opened to treat areas less than 38 square feet (see below).
*Use packets to treat almost any containerized standing water such as bird baths, gutters, animal feeding troughs, small ponds, rain barrels, unused swimming pools or hot tubs, or almost anywhere else water is expected to collect for 24 hours or more.
*To treat clear water, low larval infestations or young larvae (egg hatch to mid-third instar), use one packet to treat up to 50 square feet of water, regardless of depth.
*When larger larvae predominate, larval populations are high, or water is polluted or contains algae, use 2 packets per 50 square feet.
*To apply to smaller areas such as bird baths or flower pots, trim off a corner of the pouch and sprinkle granules onto the area to be treated:
*Up to 12.5 sq. ft.: use ¼ pouch;
*12.5 to 25 sq. ft.: use ½ pouch;
*25 to 37.5 sq. ft.: use ¾ pouch
*Replace packets every 7 to 14 days as needed.
*Bti is safe for use around fish, aquatic life, amphibians, other beneficial insects, and pets.
*Do not apply to finished human drinking water.
*Do not apply to New York State waters such as natural lakes, ponds, streams, catch basins, or wetlands, or to areas that may drain into these natural bodies of water.
*Store unused packets in a cool, dry place out of reach of children and pets.
STEP 3 - INSECTICIDE - Essentria Mosquito and Tick Concentrate
Essentria Mosquito and Tick is a liquid concentrate derived from all-natural botanical oils that offers both initial knockdown and residual protection from biting adult mosquitoes. Essentria Mosquito and Tick must be diluted in water and applied with pressurized equipment such as the Chapin 1 Gallon Pump Sprayer.
*Dilute Essentria Mosquito and Tick at a rate of 4 - 8 oz. of concentrate per gallon of water per 1,000 square feet. Use the lower rate for prevention or maintenance. Use up to 8 oz. for cleanout of heavier populations.
*Shake Essentria Mosquito and Tick well before measuring. Squeeze bottle to fill small reservoir with desired amount of concentrate. Unscrew only the cap on the small reservoir to dispense the pre-measured liquid. To dilute, fill application tank 1/3 - 1/2 with desired volume of water, add Essentria Mosquito and Tick Concentrate, then agitate to begin mixing. Add remaining volume of water, then agitate tank again before spraying.
*Dilute only the solution that you plan to use within 12 hours.
*Apply Essentria Mosquito and Tick solution to adult mosquito resting areas, including ornamental plants such as dense brush, tall grasses, and especially the undersides of leaves on trees and bushes. Also treat resting areas on structures such as under eaves or other overhangs, under decks and porches, and in other moist, shady areas. Essentria Mosquito and Tick can also be applied to low-lying areas where water tends to pool, such as marshy areas or ornamental vegetation along shorelines.
*Apply when mosquitoes are most active for the best knockdown: spray early in the morning, in early afternoon, or after sunset.
*Resist the urge to broadcast over the entire yard and home since this may also reduce populations of beneficial insects and predators.
*Do not apply spray solution to edible plants.
*Keep pets and other people out of the treatment area until the application has dried, usually about an hour.
*Repeat applications every 14-30 days as needed.
*Store unused product in the original container in a temperate environment and out of direct sunlight. Store out of reach of children or pets for up to 2 years.
*For persistent mosquito populations, consider adding an Insect Growth Regulator (IGR) such as NyGuard IGR.

Worthless
By Ian on 05/27/2019
Does not control mosquitoes. Sprayed for customers who wanted organic and had 4 call backs out of 5 sprays after just one week. Product caused damage to my Stihl backpack sprayer by clogging up hose and expandinding rubber gasket in tank which had to be replaced. $78.00 repair and numerous flushes with hot water and I finally have my sprayer working. Go with the known product that works. Talstar or Demonmax
