    Q
Is NyGuard IGR safe to use in a vegetable garden?
It looks like that is where the fleas have made there home. If not, what can be used to treat the soil in an edible garden?
    A
Nyguard IGR is not labeled to be used on a edible vegetable garden.  However, we do have a product called Malathion 57% which is labeled for gardens and will treat fleas.

    Q
    Will NyGuard work for scorpions?
I was told a local pest control company uses insect growth regulators for scorpions. Just wondering if this product will work for the control of scorpions? Thanks.
    A
Nyguard is not labeled for scorpions. This could mean that the manufacturer has not tested this product for scorpions or that they have tested it for scorpions and felt that it was not effective for that application. We would not depend on Nyguard to be effective for scorpions.

    Q
How often can I spray Onslaught and Nyguard IGR together for bird mites?
I'm thinking about ordering Onslaught to combine with NyGuard for a bird mite infestation. I realize that NyGuard isn't approved for bird mites, but I've heard success from others with this problem. I'm wondering how often this combination be used? Also, I've already used the Precor IGR, and I'm worried about using another IGR on top of it. Thanks for your response.
    A
We have had several customers tell us that they have successfully used Onslaught and NyGuard together for bird mite control. Unfortunately because neither product is actually labeled for bird mites, we can not give you a definitive re-treatment time. We can say that both products do allow re-treatments after 14 days if you see renewed insect activity indoors.  There should be no problem using NyGuard IGR in a home where you have previously used Precor IGR.

    Q
I'm using Onslaught to control ticks. I'm thinking I should add an IGR. Is NyGuard IGR a good choice?
Onslaught's Technical Bulletin recommends NyGuard IGR for a tank mix IGR, but NyGuard's label doesn't list ticks.
    A
Nyguard IGR does indeed list ticks on the product and Nyguard IGR would be a great choice for tick control when mixed with Onslaught.

    Q
Can I use NyGuard with deltamethrin?
can i use this product mixed with deltametrin based insecticide and if i can use it in a mist fogger.? also with talstar or defense.
    A
Nyguard is labeled to be fogged and it is labeled for use with any water based synthetic pyrethroid such as Suspend SC, Talstar P or Defense. You should note however that none of the synthetic pyrethoids you mentioned (Suspend Sc, Talstar P, or Defense) are labeled for fogging and cannot be used in this manner. We do have a wide range of fogging concentrates which you can see here: Fogging Solutions

If you want to mix up two gallons of Talstar/Nyguard you will need to add 2 fl oz of Talstar and 6ml of Nyguard in 2 gallons of water and you will need to spray this over a 2,000 sq ft area. Please note that Talstar cannot be broadcast sprayed over carpets and furniture indoors.

  • Asked by Jay from Harrisburg Pa
    05/02/2013
    Q
Is Nyguard better or just more concentrated than Archer IGR? I see they have the same active ingredient.
Which, in your opinion is more a effective IGR?
    A
Archer Igr and Nyguard Igr are both very effective IGRs. The biggest differences between the two is the ability to hold up to sunlight outdoors. Archer is photostable for 14 days where as the NyGuard is photostable for 4-6 months. NyGuard also has a wider range of pests that are covered by its ability to sterilize and inhibit the reproductive cycles.

  • Asked by Kevin from United States
    05/06/2013
    Q
Is there a more cost efficient product other than Nyguard as an IGR?
It takes 15-20 gallons to treat around the farm every three (3) weeks. At .4 mL per gallon of water, it would take 60-80 mL. This would cost between $250.00-$350.00 just for the IGR.
    A
Nyguard would actually be your most cost efficient product as it only needs to be applied once every 5 months outdoors. It has the longest residual outdoors to sunlight and rain over all other IGR's which only hold up about 14 days.

    Q
What is the mixing ratio of Onslaught and Nyguard IGR for use inside a house infested with bird mites?
wanted to use onslaught insecticide with nyguard IGR inside the house infested with birdmites and wanted to know mixing ratio (for 2 gallons of water), will steifab help for disinfecting furniture?
    A
You would mix 1 ounce of Onslaught and 4 ml of NyGuard IGR to each gallon of water you use. So for 2 gallons of mixture you would need 2 ounces of Onslaught and 8 ml of NyGuard IGR. Sterifab is a great contact killer and disinfectant for all surfaces inside the home including furniture, bedding, rugs etc. For helpful tips for controlling bird mites, please reference our article on How To Get Rid of Bird Mites. Nyguard IGR should be able to be sold to Canada. However, we do not ship outside of the U.S. We apologize for any inconveniences this may cause.

    Q
How much should I use in a thermal fogger with 1 gal capacity
Currently using Masterline 4-4 as adultcide. 1:7 ratio
    A
We are going to refer you to the manufacturer for this answer as it only states on the product label that it can be used in a ULV(cold fogger) or similar misting equipment. MGK will better be able to tell you if it can be used in a propane/thermal fogger and how to dilute it if so. You can reach MGK at 1-800-645-6466.

  • Asked by Branden from Woodburn, Oregon
    07/12/2013
    Q
    Does NyGuard repel ants?
Is NyGuard detectable to ants? If mixed with Arilon, will ants cross over Arilon without detecting it so they will take the NyGuard into the nest?
    A
The NyGuard IGR is not detectable to ants or any other insect so it would be picked up by the ants and transferred along to others in the colony at the same time as the Dupont Arilon insecticide you are using. Feel free to contact us if you have any other questions.

  • Asked by Brian from Oregon
    08/03/2013
    Q
Does Nyguard transfer to other insects through touch?
Would Nyguard make it from an ant outside the nest and transfer it inside the nest? Also, can Nyguard be tank mixed with Arilon? If so, at what rate?
    A
Yes the NyGuard IGR does transfer from insect to insect through touch and grooming habits so it would be carried back to the nest. NyGuard IGR, as well as all other IGRs, can be tank mixed with any insecticide to make application simpler and will not change the effects of either product. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

  • Asked by Joe from Northwest Florida
    08/06/2013
    Q
Can you use NyGuard IGR in a Hose Sprayer?
Are you able to use NyGuard IGR in a Hose Sprayer? If so, what would be the dilution rate? is it possible to use in a Sprayer with Talstar Pro?
    A
NyGuard IGR is typically not a product that can be used in a hose end sprayer as few sprayers will dial down to the small amount of this product that is needed per gallon. You can use it in a hand pump sprayer with Talstar at the rate of 1 ounce of Talstar and 4-8 ml of NyGuard IGR per gallon of water. Once you have treated your first time with the mixture of the two products, you can use the hose end sprayer to apply the Talstar again 30 days later while the NyGuard is continuing to work. The rate for a hose end sprayer for Talstar is the same as a pump sprayer, just put the concentrate into the reservoir, set the dial to 1 ounce and start spraying. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

    Q
What are the names of an insecticide that stops insect reproduction?
    A

Insecticides do not stop the reproduction cycle of the insect, they eradicate them. IGRs (insect growth regulators) halt the reproductive cycle. Some IGR's that we carry are NyGuard, Gentrol and Archer. I have included a link below to all of them that are available on our website.

  • Asked by Matt from Arden, Nc

    Q
Will washing my walls and cleaning my carpet nullify the effects of Nylar?
I applied Nylar to my carpet and the walls in my home a few weeks ago. It's supposed to be effective against fleas for 7 months. Does that mean I shouldn't wash my walls or clean my carpets for 7 months? Will washing and cleaning nullify the effects of Nylar and other insecticides?
    A
Yes, steam cleaning, washing or using any type of cleaning agent on a surface you have sprayed the product on will pull the product up and break the residual down. If treating for fleas, you should be spraying once every 2 weeks with an insecticide and IGR to control the population until its gone. In between sprays you should be vacuuming daily to help pull up any dead fleas, stimulate flea eggs to hatch and suck up an debris they leave behind. Once the flea infestation is gone you can wash the carpets and walls if you need to, but it will degrade the product on the surface.
