Pendulum 3.3 EC does not require the use of a surfactant.
Pendulum 3.3 EC will likely not harm your lawn, however, because dichondra lawns are considered a type of ground cover, it may prevent the lawn from growing.
The rate for Pendulum 3.3 EC is 1.3-1.8 fl. oz. in 1-2 gallons of water per 1000 sq. ft. At these rates the 2.5 gallon size will make between 177-246 gallons of finished solution.
Pendulum 3.3 EC - 2.5 Gallons is oil based but should not clog sprayers when mixed as directed on the label. Agitating the mixture well before and during application can help it stay suspended. We do carry many professional grade backpack sprayers that could be used to apply it.
It is recommended that you wait at least three months after applying Pendulum 3.3 EC to reseed or overseed your turfgrass. It is also recommended that you allow the turf to recover prior to making an application of the product. If you are treating new areas, you should wait until it is well established with at least three mowings.
The first thing you need to know when using an herbicide such as Pendulum is that the exact amount of water you dilute it with is not important. It is only important to make sure you are using the correct amount of product per 1,000 sq ft of lawn. Use too much and you risk damaging your lawn, use too little and you will not get adequate results. You will need to use 1.3 - 1.8 oz of Pendulum per 1,000 sq ft of lawn. To decide how much water you want to use, you should mark a 1,000 sq ft area, fill your sprayer with water ONLY, and start walking and spraying just as if you were doing the actual application of herbicide. When you are done walking and spraying the 1,000 sq ft area note how much water it took you to spray that area, and that is the amount you will want to mix 1.3-1.8 oz of product with for each 1,000 sq ft area that needs to be treated. You will need to make sure treated areas are irrigated with at least 1/2 inch of water (either by rainfall or by sprinkler) following the application.
Pendulum 3.3 EC is safe for established zoysia if used as directed on the product label. It is recommended to apply at the rate of 1.3-1.8 fl oz per 1,000 sq ft.
According to the label for Pendulum 3.3 EC, it is recommended that you wash the area immediately so that the product does not stain. The manufacturer says that muratic acid (found at many janitorial supply stores) will help to the yellow stains left from Pendulum 3.3 EC.
If you are expecting very heavy rains in a short amount of time, then we recommend waiting until after that rain to make your application of Pendulum 3.3 EC Herbicide so that your active ingredient doesn’t get washed away. Extra heavy rainfall right after application could cause some runoff and lead to uneven treatment and spotty weed control. If that 2-3” is over several days or weeks, then it should not upset your treatment. If the ground is very dry before application, then you may need to moisten the soil first so that you do not get pools of product. Conversely, if the ground is very saturated, then allow it to dry up some before you apply the product. Since this is a pre-emergent, the idea is to get the active ingredient into the soil evenly for best results.
Pre-Emergents like Pendulum 3.3 EC should be applied before the weeds start to germinate. We suggest that you contact you local Extension Office to get the best time for your area. The efficacy of this product will improve if followed by 1 1/2" of rainfall or its equivalent in sprinkler irrigation. If it is not activated by rainfall or irrigation within 30 days, erratic weed control may result. You apply it at 1.3 - 1.8 oz per 1000 sq ft or 3.6 to 4.8 pts per acre.
