    Q
Is Pendulum 3.3 EC Herbicide harmful to birds foraging in treated areas?
    A

People and pets should stay out of areas treated with Pendulum 3.3 EC Herbicide during application and at least until the product is dry. Often the primary reason for this is to make sure that walking around on the wet application does not disturb it, rather than because of health concerns. Pendulum 3.3 EC herbicide is not meant to be harmful to birds.

    Q
What is best way to apply Pendulum 3.3 EC to residential lawn?
Label gives little insight as to non-commercial application methods. I intended to apply this herbicide via hose-end sprayer or backpack sprayer but some online resources indicate that some plastic sprayers may clog because it is an oil-based EC. Will a hose-end sprayer (e.g. chapin) be an appropriate way to apply this herbicide?
    A

It is not recommended to use a hose end sprayer when applying Pendulum 3.3 EC. You may use a backpack sprayer for larger areas. Per the product label, "Low-pressure (e.g. 20 to 40 psi) sprayers are recommended." Pendulum 3.3 EC - 2.5 Gallons is oil based but should not clog sprayers when mixed as directed on the label.  Agitating the mixture well before and during application can help it stay suspended.  We do carry many professional grade backpack sprayers that could be used to apply it.

    Q
What is the ideal soil temperature to apply Pendulum 3.3 EC Herbicide?
    A

Pendulum 3.3 EC Herbicide should be applied when soil temperatures are idealy between 55 and 65 degrees. We recommend using a soil thermometer to check the soil temperature or you can contact your Master Gardener with the County Cooperative Extension Office for their recommendation on the best time to apply pre-emergents in your area.

There is also Syngenta’s GreenCast Website which is a great resource to check the soil temperature in your area. Please go to www.greencastonline.com, click Soil Temperature Maps then type in your city/zip code under Location Search.

    Q
Can I spray Pendulum 3.3 two weeks before I plant pine seedlings in the spring in Wisconsin?
    A

Per the product label Pendulum 3.3 EC Herbicide may be applied at planting or to established trees.  When making application at planting, it is important that silt closure be achieved to prevent direct contact with tree roots or being washed into the rood zone or root stunting may occur.

    Q
Can Pendulum 3.3 EC Herbicide tank mixed with Ranger Pro be applied around the base of mature trees for weed control?
    A

It is recommended to keep applications Pendulum 3.3 EC Herbicide stay outside of the dripline of trees to avoid contact with any exposed roots. Roundup Pro applications would be limited to very carefully spot treating the weeds there directly only and avoiding any contact with the tree and roots so broadcasting is not an option as is needed with the Pendulum 3.3 EC

    Q
Can Pendulum 3.3 EC Herbicide be used in pastures where horses graze?
    A

Pendulum 3.3 EC Herbicide is not labeled for use in grazing pastures.

An alternative herbicide would be Prowl H20 that contains the same active ingredient and labeled for pastures where animals graze. Please review the Prowl H20 product label for more information.

    Q
Will Pendulum 3.3 EC Herbicide control dallisgrass or bahiagrass?
    A

Pendulum 3.3 EC Herbicide is not labeled to prevent dallisgrass and is tolerable and labeled for safe use on bahiagrass so would not control it either.  Dimension would be a pre-emergent for preventing dallisgrass, but there is no pre for bahia.  It is usually best to spot treat this and reseed with your desirable turf, depending on what that is.

  • Asked by Craig from Wheatland, Iowa

    Q
Can Pendulum 3.3 EC Herbicide be used as a pre-emergent in dormant native switchgrass?
Can this be used along with Sizamine over dormant shrubs to control weeds and grasses? es.
    A

Pendulum 3.3 EC is not specifically labeled for switchgrass therefore we cannot say it would fully prevent it from germinating. This product can also be used for preemergent control around tolerant shrubs listed starting on page 10 of the product label. Please review the tolerant shrubs to ensure this application will not injure your desirables.

Please contact BASF for 800-526-1072 for further assistance with your specific treatment.

    Q
Why isn't Pendulum 3.3 EC Herbicide not killing my weeds?
    A

Pendulum 3.3 EC Herbicide will not control established or actively growing weeds, rather it is a pre-emergent that stops susceptible weeds from germinating and growing, eventually causing them to die before they ever emerge from the soil. Please see our Post Emergent Herbicides for products that will kill weeds that have already emerged in your lawn.

  • Asked by Lance from Fairbanks Alaska

    Q
Can I use Pendulum 3.3 EC Herbicide on raspberry plants?
    A

Pendulum 3.3 EC is not labeled for use on raspberry plants. If you are looking for a post-emergent weed killer to use around raspberries, you could use Hi-Yield Grass Killer Post-Emergent Herbicide instead. If you need a pre-emergent herbicide, Fertilome Over the Top II would be a great option.

    Q
Can I spray Pendulum Aquacap before winter?
In Fairbanks Alaska we have snow on the ground for 5-6 months and then a rapid spring in May. We don't always get 1/2” of rain in May. Would Pendulum AquaCap be effective if I sprayed in October when we do get lots of drizzle? Weeds and grasses emerge very quickly in May. I sprayed on May 13 this spring and we got 1/2 of rain or more within 30 days. I have significantly fewer weeds this summer.
    A

Pendulum 3.3 EC applied in October may prevent weeds germinating in May when used as the highest rate listed on the label.  You want to be sure that there is enough “drizzle” to water the product in ½ inch within 30 days of application.  For the best timing advice it would be recommended to contact your local cooperative extension office to determine the correct timing of the application as this will vary greatly from region to region.

    Q
How can I repair from spraying too much Pendulum 3.3 EC in my yard?
My dad sprayed too much. I gave him enough to spray the front and back yard and still had some left over and he sprayed the whole container (the container you connect to a water hose) on my front yard. Now I have dirt patches where I raked up the dead grass. You can see the yellow. Is there anyway I can repair it this year or do I have to resod or seed and am I out of luck this year?
    A

The only product that can help repair a lawn that too much herbicide such as Pendulum 3.3 EC is a liquid charcoal and unfortantely we do not carry one.  Over watering the area could help to push it down into the soil more but that depends on how soon after application this is done.  You can try reaching out to the manufacturer to see what they would advise.  BASF can be reached at 800-777-8570.  You will need to wait at least 4-6 months to reseed/sod the area after application.

  • Asked by Cat from Ft Walton Bch Fl
    03/28/2018
    Q
Can I use Pendulum to spot spray?
I will be using this on a sandy church parking lot As a pre-emergence for Sandspur. I have read the directions and know that sandbur is a close relative.
    A

Pendulum 3.3 EC - 2.5 Gallons would be best as a broadcast application since it is a pre-emergent herbicide not a post, so will not kill anything actively growing.  Common names include buffelgrasses, sandburs, and sand spur for weeds that are stickers, so you do want to be sure the weed has been correctly identified.

    Q
What is the yellowing agent in Pendulum 3.3 EC?
Is Pendimethalin both the color and the main pre emergent active ingr
    A

Unfortunately, that is proprietary information on the Pendulum 3.3 EC product, but the active ingredient pendimethalin is not what causes it to be yellow. There is an actual yellowing agent that does that. We recommend using Pendulum AquaCap if you want that same active ingredient that does not contain the yellow agent in it.

  • Asked by Ken from Northern Va
    02/14/2017
    Q
What is the effect on the efficacy of Pendulum 3.3 EC - 2.5 Gallons if grass is cut before applying this product in Spring?
There are areas to be treated that have some winter growth. Would cutting those areas improve the efficacy of the product?
    A

Pendulum 3.3 EC - 2.5 Gallons is a pre-emergent that prevents weeds from growing by creating a barrier in the soil itself. It does not affect any currently emerged weeds, and mowing would not effect the application.  That being said you should be sure to remove any thatch layer or grass clippings if any on the lawn so the product can better contact the soil and be sure to water in as directed on the product label. It is recommend to avoid mowing 2 days before or 2 days after applying herbicides so that there is not extra stress on the turfgrass.

  • Asked by Pete from Elko, Nevada
    01/20/2017
    Q
Does Pendulum 3.3 EC leach or drift laterally in the soil profile?
    A

Pendulum 3.3 EC will leach into the soil if the product has not settled firmly or been watered in. The label advises that when using Pendulum 3.3 EC care must be taken that soil or planting mixes have settled firmly following any new plantings so that any cracks in the soil would not allow direct contact with Pendulum 3.3 EC

  • Asked by Kelly from Dayton, Oh
    12/10/2016
    Q
When can I apply Pendulum to landscape beds in Ohio?
We are going to be mulching this winter and I am wondering if liquid Pendulum will be an effective pre-emergent to apply in cold temperatures? And how long does the residual last/how often do I need to reapply?
    A

Pendulum 3.3 EC can be applied to landscape beds prior to mulching. It will be able to absorb into the soil underneath the mulch. It should not be applied to newly transplanted plants until they are rooted successfully. You will also want to use the lowest rate on annuals. It should be applied in March-May and again in Aug-Nov for the best control with cool season turfgrass. It is important to apply pre-emergents just before the soil reaches 55+ degrees, just before the seeds begin to germinate in the soil.
