    Meh

    By Erik on 09/10/2023

Way too much crop grass mixed in this blend. Totally ruined my overseed. Can only hope I can run it out of the lawn. Would highly recommend you pass on this. Falsely advertised as a pro blend. Total garbage!

Q
Can I use Pennington Smart Seed Pro Tall Fescue and Kentucky Bluegrass to overseed a lawn with mixed fescue grass in southeastern Michigan?

The soil is in great shape I get it tested every 2 years. I just want a more uniform type turf not quite golf course quality but close maybe.

A

For home lawns, Pennington Smart Seed Pro Tall Fescue and Kentucky Bluegrass would be applied at the rate of 8-10 lbs/1000 sq ft for both new seeding and/or overseeding. Please view the product brochure for more information.

Q
How well does Pennington Smart Seed Pro Tall Fescue and Kentucky Bluegrass grow and maintain under dense shade trees such as walnut, hickory nut and black walnut type trees?
A

The growth of Pennington Smart Seed Pro Tall Fescue and Kentucky Bluegrass around walnut hickory and black walnut trees would not be an issue and the seed should grow just fine as long as it has enough sun and water. All grass seeds are going to need at least minimum sunlight thresholds met in order to survive, even dense shade seeds. If the trees get enough sunlight or a few hours of sunlight, there should be no issue with this grass seed growing.

Please view our Kentucky Bluegrass Lawn Guide and Weed Guides for more information and product recommendations depending on your needs.

Q
Is Pennington Smart Seed Pro Tall Fescue and Kentucky Bluegrass the best choice for a lawn that receives mostly full sun except along the edges?

I am located in southern New York State. It is a new home with very little established grass and I need to overseed.

A

We would recommend consulting with your Local Master Gardener with the County Extension Office as they are the best resource to advise on what grass seed would grow and establish well in your area.
