    Q
What do I do if my garden was sprayed accidentally with Permethrin SFR?
I mixed 4 oz of 36.7 with 2 gallons of water and was spraying lawn and walls and the mist went over some vegetation plants like blueberry and strawberries and other edible plants is it safe to eat them when they ripe which will be about 3 to 6 weeks or just consider them a lose
    A

Unfortunately, if Permethrin SFR 36.8% comes in contact with any edible vegetation it should be considered contaminated and should be discarded.  It would be unsafe for consumption.

  • Asked by Norman from Wrightsville Beach, Nc
    05/24/2018
    Q
Can Permethrin SFR be used to kill rug moths, their eggs and larvae?
    A

Permethrin SFR 36.8% is not labeled to treat any type of carpet moth and will not kill any eggs.  You may read our How to Get Rid of Clothes Moths Article for identification and treatment tips. We would also recommend consulting with the local cooperative extension office in your county for a positive ID.

In order to treat successfully for Clothes Moths, something like the ProPest Clothes Moth Traps would need to be used with a crack and crevice insectide like Suspend SC or aerosol like Cy-Kick CS. Suspend SC can also be used for Carpet Beetle control and is applied the same way, as a crack and crevice spray. Please read our How to Get Rid of Clothes Moths for full details on products and treament applications.

  • Asked by Daniel from Salisbury
    06/13/2018
    Q
How many ounces per gallon of water do I need to use the Permethrin SFR 36.8% for ticks?
Area treated is a wooded area surrounding a lawn, outbuildings and the house. Same question for the lawn please. The label says 0.4 - 0.8 ounces per 4 - 25 gallons. That is quite vague.
    A

We would recommend using Permethrin SFR at the rate of 1 2/3 oz. per gallon water for ticks.  It would also be a good idea to incorporate an insect growth regulator (IGR) such as Archer IGR for complete control of ticks.

  • Asked by Pam from Jacksonville, Fl
    06/23/2018
    Q
What setting on the bottle (Chapin g362) do you use for fleas with permethrin?
I dont want a mathematical problem to figure out I just want the actual setting on the bottle.
    A

You can use Permethrin SFR in a hose end sprayer as long as it can be calibrated to the required usage rate, though for fleas outside the rate is not set per gallon of water. According to the Permethrin SFR product label: For fleas, ant and ticks in lawns - Mix 0.4 – 0.8 fl. oz. (2.4 - 4.8 tsp) of Permethrin SFR in 4 to 25 gallons of water per 1000 square feet. Use the higher rate for fast knockdown and increased residual control. Dense or excessive (greater than 3 inches) lawn height and arid conditions may require higher volume application rates. Repeat application if necessary. Application in combination with compatible surfactants or wetting agents may enhance penetration. I am not familiar with the settings on the applicator to give you exact information of the settings. You may contact Chapin for further assistance to avoid doing the math.

  • Asked by Barbara from St.louis
    07/27/2018
    Q
Can Permethrin SFR 36.8% be applied to couches and mattress to treat for a heavy flea infestation?
    A

Permethrin SFR 36.8% cannot be applied to matttresses for any treatment and can only be applied as spot treatment to upholstered furniture. The mix rate to apply indoors is 1 2/3 fl. oz. per gallon of water.

For Flea Control Indoors, the product label states on page 43:

Prior to treatment, carpets and furniture should be vacuumed thoroughly and vacuum cleaner bag discarded in an outdoor trash container. Evenly apply a direct spray as a spot treatment to infested areas such as crawlspaces, rugs, carpets, pet beds and other pet resting areas.

Do not wet or soak. For crawlspace applications, the applicator must wear a respirator recommended by NIOSH for filtering spray mists and organic vapors. When treating upholstered furniture take care to treat between and under cushions. Pay particular attention to areas which are frequented by pets. Old pet bedding should be replaced with clean, fresh bedding after treatment. To control the source of flea infestations, pets inhabiting the treated premises should be treated with a fleacontrol product registered for application to animals.

  • Asked by April from Phoenix, Arizona
    03/17/2019
    Q
Is Permethrin SFR 36.8% safe to use in succulent pots?
I have a fungus gnat infestation. Thank you.
    A

Permethrin SFR 36.8% is not labeled for use on container plants so we cannot recommend it.  We would recommend something like Bifen IT instead which is known for being super gentle on plants and can be used as a soil drench.  The best option with fungus gnats though is to allow the soil to dry out completely as this will kill any larvae in it.

  • Asked by Magdolna from Nh
    05/31/2019
    Q
I sprayed my yard 4 days ago with Permethrin SFR 36.8%, but I still have live ticks. Should I spray it again?
    A

Permethrin SFR 36.8% should only be applied once every four weeks. It does take time for the product to work after applied. It would also be a good idea to incorporate an insect growth regulator (IGR) such as Archer IGR for complete control of ticks.  All of these products are pet safe if used as directed.  Pets need to be kept out of the area being treated during application and until everything is completely dry.

Please look over our Tick Control Guide for more information on treating and preventing this pest.
