    Q
Will Permethrin SFR 36.8% help treat borers on my dogwood trees? Trimming limbs up to 6" in diameter and bark is coming off the trees.
    A

Permethrin SFR 36.8% is labeled for many types of borers and can be used on ornamental trees. For Dogwood Borers listed on page 39 of the product label, the recommended rate is 1 to 2 quarts per 100 gallons (0.32 to 0.64 fl oz per gallon / 3.2 to 6.4 fl oz per 10 gallons of water). Apply to the lower branches and trunks prior to adult emergence. Thorough coverage of bark is required for control.  Please review the product label for mix rates and application instructions.

Adult emergence varies according to pest species, host tree, environmental conditions and geographic location, your local Cooperative Extension Office would be a good resource to find out the best time for applications.

  • Asked by Jared from Gilbert
    06/08/2021
    Q
I intend to use Permethrin SFR 36.8% around my swimming pool for bees.
How long does it need to dry for to be effective? Also, can this be used on the small vehicle tiles around the swimming pool? I'm concerned that some runoff will get in the pool before it dries. Thoughts?
    A

You can use Permethrin SFR 36.8% for control of crawling and flying insects in your lawn as long as you do not apply it in a way that would allow for runoff or overspray into the pool. So you should not spray on a concrete pool deck or on tiling next to the pool.

You may consider keeping a can of Wasp Freeze on hand to spray stinging insects on contact when you see them (do not use over the water). Some folks have also been known to use a badminton racket, provided they have good aim.

If you have bees drinking from a freshwater pool, the you may also consider created another water source for the insects farther out and more toward a covered area for them. Just be mindful it's there and keep the water fresh so you don't create a mosquito habitat.

  • Asked by Frank from Amarillo, Texas
    06/13/2021
    Q
Is Permethrin safe on flowering plants?
We have a mosquito problem and to use Permethrin SFR 36.8% Will this harm flowering plants? Thanks
    A

Permethrin SFR 36.8% is labeled to be sprayed on ornamentals safely as directed on the label but is not labeled for mosquitoes around homes, only on livestock and livestock premises. Talstar P would be a better option.  For mosquitoes key is to apply to the underside of leaves on trees/bushes which is there the adults lay during the day, as well as shady areas.  You would not treat entire areas of the lawn that are in full sun as it is not habitable for them there.

    Q
How is Permethrin SFR 36.8% safe to apply on dogs for fleas and ticks but animals need to stay out of an area until a spray application dries?
    A

When applying Permethrin SFR 36.8% as a flea/tick dip to dogs you are using a lower rate of the product making it safer for contact.  It is still advised to try to prevent them licking themselves until dry if possible just to prevent ingest while wet.

    Q
After applying Permethrin SFR 36.8% as the paint brush method mentioned on the product label, how long until I can mop the floors afterwards?
How much needs to be applied or how wet should I paint the solution on? Does this require more drying time? Also, once the product has dried, am I able to mop my tile floors? I usually mop with a 50/50 mix of white vinegar and water.
    A

Permethrin SFR 36.8% should only be used around the perimeter of hard floor rooms, such as along baseboards and in cracks and crevices where you should avoid mopping as it will remove the product.  Inside applications are bare minimum application areas and are just a light spray/application to the area, should not be dripping.

  • Asked by Rene from Killeen Texas
    09/13/2011
    Q
Can this product, Permethrin SFR 36.8%, be used inside for chiggers?
    A
Permethrin SFR 36.8% is not labeled for chiggers and may not provide adequate results for you. Onslaught insecticide is labeled for chiggers and can be used both indoors and outdoors as a broadcast spray. Chiggers are not known to infest structures. Chiggers are most likely outdoors in your yard. Many people are lead to believe that the infestation is indoors because they do not feel the effects of the chigger bites right away and then are lead to believe they are being bitten at a later time. Treatments for chiggers should begin in May and could need to continue through the summer as new chiggers move into the area. Treating the entire lawn is of little benefit because chiggers avoid direct sunlight and normally will not infest areas that are mowed or otherwise well maintained. Focus treatment on the unkempt areas of the lawn and lawn edge. You can also use Onslaught to do a barrier treatment around the outside of your home and in your crawl space to stop pests from moving indoors. If you feel strongly that you are being bitten inside by something we would urge you to get a sample of the pest and have it professionally identified by an entomologist. You can find an entomologist in your area by contacting your local cooperative extension office.
