A few days ago i noticed fleas around my house, i immediately went to the store and bought 2 cans of flea spray
    A
We are unsure of your question. Ultracide is a very effective flea control aerosol that provides immediate kill of adult fleas and prevents formation of new adults from eggs or larvae. You want to reapply every 14 days.

    Q
If Ultracide has a 7 month residual why do you have to treat the carpet over and over again?
If there is a residual in the chemical then why reapply in 2 weeks? Whatever hatches later wouldnt the residual be there waiting for the new fleas or larva?
    A
The IGR in the Ultracide is supposed to last for 7 months, however the adulticide you need to respray every 14 days as this is the rough hatching cycle for any that havent already come out from your daily vacuuming. This provides an extra knock down of any remaining adults and newly hatched fleas. On average, most homeowners who do a proper treatment, vacuum daily, and treat their pet and outdoor areas where the fleas originated will be rid of the fleas indoors by the 2nd spraying. For most products, the treatment and residual control is different when you are spraying "just in case" some get in, or if you are actually dealing with an active infestation.

    Q
Will mopping my tile and brick floors remove the Ultracide?
I have wood floors in my bedrooms, tile floors in my bathrooms and brick floors everywhere else. How often will I need to apply and can I mop my floors or will this remove the product to get the fleas under control? We have treated the yard and monthly treatment on the animals.
    A
If you mop the floors or steam clean the carpets where Ultracide has been applied you will be effectively removing any residual control you would have gotten from the application. You should mop and steam clean prior to the application and you can mop and steam clean two weeks after the application.

    Q
Ultracide for Carpet Beelte Adult and Larvae?
Is this a good spray for carpet larvae? Can I spray it inside my kitchen cabinets and then replace food and other stuff once it dries?
    A
Ultracide is not labeled for Carpet Beetles or their larvae and definitely not for use inside kitchen cabinets. Carpet beetles will be around the edges of carpet and fabric like wool rugs or clothing, not in cabinets. If you are experiencing beetles in your cabinets you may have a type of grain beetle. Please try to get a sample on a glue board or tape and take it to a local pest control company or your local Cooperative Extension office to get a proper identification so that we can give you the best information for your treatment needs.

    Q
Where inside vehicles do I need to spray Ultracide to kill fleas? Do I need to spray on the seats? I have sprayed on the floor but I still feel the fleas.
    A
The Ultracide can be used in all fabric areas of the car and cracks and crevices, just like you would use it in the home for flea control. Floorboards, seats, cushions, and floor mats are all places you can spray the product. You need to vacuum the car thoroughly everyday just like you would the home as well to help expose any dormant eggs to the product you put down. Spray Ultracide every 14 days and let dry completely before re-entering the car. If you are only feeling the fleas, and not seeing them still, you need to put down glue boards to try and get a sample of the pest in your car to make sure you are treating for the right insect. You can take a sample to your local Cooperative Extension to have it identified by the Entomologist on staff.

    Q
Does Ultracide have an expiration date?
If so where is it located on the can?
    A
Most insecticides have a shelf life of about 3-5 years is stored properly in a temperature stable environment out of direct sunlight. Most manufactures will only have the date the item was actually made imprinted on the can/bottle. Each placement is going to vary by manufacturer and many times can be in a coded form.

    Q
Should you remove kids toys, mattress when using Ultracide on carpet beetles?
Most of the carpet beetles were present in my children's rooms (carpeted rooms). Ultracide will be used next week to get rid of the beetles. However, do I need to (or would it be best) to remove all their toys and books from the bedroom? What about the clothes in the dressers and closet? I was told I can just place these items on top of the bed or dresser. Also, should I treat all carpeted areas in the home, even oriental rugs that are not close to baseboards?
    A
Please note that Ultracide is not labeled to control carpet beetles. When used as directed on the product label the product is being sprayed straight down on the floor or furniture that needs to sprayed and removing everything from the room is not necessary. The clothes in the dresser and closet should not be contacted by the spray as long as the drawers and door stay closed. All items should be removed from the floor so a thorough treatment can be achieved. When treating upholstered furniture, treat under cushions and areas where insect development occurs.

    Q
Why do we need to vacuum so much? How does Ultracide kill and prevent fleas?
If ultracide will eliminate flea problems for up to seven months, why does it still need to vaccum every day or every other day after the application for the next two weeks? and it asks a second application in 14 days. why?
    A
The insect growth regulator in Ultracide lasts for up to 7 months. This is the ingredient that will stop reproduction of fleas. The other two ingredients are insecticides and they will only kill for about 2 weeks. Vacuums can physically remove a decent percentage of flea eggs that are in the carpet, along with much of the organic crud that the flea larvae feed on. A critical part of the diet of the larva is dried blood, present there as fecal material from the fleas that are on the pets. Wherever the pets spend time they will shed the fecal matter and the eggs, so it is extremely important that you focus on these potential hot spots where the pets sleep. A vacuum also will remove a small percentage of larvae, but the larva is pretty tenacious, and will wrap around the carpet fibers down there at the base of the pile, and hold on for dear life as the vacuum passes by. The pupa is even tougher to physically remove, for it uses fibers as part of its "cocoon". But, the vacuum will stimulate the flea adults still in their pupa form to quickly emerge as the adult, and at this point perhaps be sucked up in the vacuum. Even if they are not removed by the vacuum, at least they now are exposed and susceptible to your treatment. After two weeks most infestations require that you do a second application of the Ultracide and continue with the vacuuming.

    Q
Is this product odorless and is it toxic to people?
    A
Ultracide does have a bit of an odor as do all aerosols though we have never had a complaint that the odor is very strong or that it lingers. As long as you follow the product label and stay out of treated area until it has dried the toxicity level is relatively low.

    Q
Is this product usefull in getting rid of bedbugs?
we are trying to find the right pest control company and the best priced one said that they use ultracide to get rid of bedbugs. He said it is a three-step procedure but all he uses is ultracide. Will this be effective?
    A

We cannot comment on the work that is done or will be done by a professional pest control company. Here is what we can tell you: Ultracide is not labeled for bedbugs so we would not recommend it for this type of application. Ultracide has a broad application nozzle which will not direct the product into cracks and crevices where bedbugs hide making it not ideal for bedbug applications. Also, the manufacturer has not tested Ultracide for bedbug applications so we have no idea if it will be effective for bedbugs. It will take multiple products to get rid of bedbugs (and also multiple applications of the products) but you must make sure the correct products are being used. Make sure only products that are labeled for bedbugs are being used and also make sure the products are being applied in areas where they are labeled to be applied (many products cannot be used on beds or furniture). Most of our customers and most professionals use the products that come in our bedbug kits, which is why we have put the kits together.

    Q
Can I spray ultracide on my mattresses?
I have two cans of ultracide I am planning to spray our house today. I have all hardwood floors. Can i spray all of the hardwood floor surfaces AND our mattresses?
    A
You can spray Ultracide on mattresses and most hardwood floors. You should test the Ultracide on a small inconspicuous area of your hardwood floors before spraying the entire floor as some finishes can get marred by insecticides.

    Q
I have a 36 foot RV I currently live in with my dog who I have been treating with K9AdvantixII for 4 weeks
I have sprayed 2-20oz cans in the RV, in all compartments as well as my car over the last 2 weeks. The final treatment was yesterday. I have vaccuumed every day often twice a day but I still feel fleas. I read the instructions thoroughly many times but saw nowhere to spray a second time exactly 14 days after the first treatment. I am at my wits end to the point where I fantasize lighting my rig on fire and watching it burn. Is it going to be necessary to treat the rig again? I am going broke trying to get rid of these things.I even threw out all of my bedding and replaced it with brand new bedding. How much longer should I expect these things to last and what else, if anything do I have to do?
    A
Are you still actually seeing fleas or only feeling them? It can take 2-6 weeks of applying Ultracide to get rid of a flea infestation and if your pet is picking up fleas from outdoors and shedding them indoors it can take much longer to get rid of the infestation. It is necessary to do a follow up treatment after 14 days, this is industry standard.

  • Asked by Roslyn from Forest Grove, Or
    11/04/2011
    Q
Does Ultracide work on thick carpet?
I have really thick, almost shag carpet. Will Ultracide be able to help with my flea problem?
    A
Ultracide will work on any surface.  However, the most important part to any flea treatment is vacuuming.  Vacuuming does a couple things, but the most important of which is the suction helps bring eggs and hatched fleas to the surface of the carpet so it is more likely that they come in contact with the Ultracide.  When treating fleas, you should vacuum first, then treat.  Next, you should vacuum after you treat over the next few days, every day.  Vacuuming also stimulates the eggs to hatch.  Exactly 14 days after the first treatment, you should vacuum and treat again.  This method will usually take care of most flea issues.

    Q
Does Ultracide kill and prevent Ticks?
How effective is Ultracide against the elimination and prevention of ticks in the house?
    A
While the active ingredients in Ultracide would most likely kill ticks this product is not labeled for ticks so we would not recommend it for tick applications. If you would like to use an aerosol product that does not require mixing and measuring you can use Precor 2000 Plus. Precor 2000 Plus Premise Spray is an insect growth regulator (IGR) and residual insecticide for controlling fleas and ticks indoors. For best results you should use a product such as Petcor that is labeled for use on your animals to prevent them from bringing ticks indoors in the future.

    Q
Would be using Archer IGR + Conquer indoors be the same as using Ultracide indoors?
I was planning on purchasing the Archer IGR and Conquer to mix and use outside, but it says I can use it inside also Is that better than the Ultracide?
    A
Using Conquer/Archer IGR concentrates together would be pretty similar to using the Ultracide Aerosol indoors. Many customers choose Ultracide instead of the concentrates because they do not have to purchase separate items and because no measuring or mixing is required.

    Q
Is it normal to still see fleas after 1st treatment of Ultracide?
The fleas have definitely decreased, but I'm still seeing at least 15 fleas in the bowls of soapy water I leave out over night.
    A
It is completely normal to see fleas after the first treatment with Ultracide. You should continue thoroughly vacuuming your home every day for 14 days after the initial treatment. After 14 days you should do the follow up application of Ultracide that is required to break the infestation cycle. Any pets should be treated with a product that is labeled for use on animals.

  • Asked by Erin from Nj

    Q
How long does Ultracide take to work?
We first noticed fleas in the house about 3 weeks ago. We gave the cats (3, all indoor) flea baths and treated them with Advantage, as advised by our vet. We ordered Ultracide and sprayed the entire house 5 days ago. Initially, we saw less fleas. However, last night I got bit 5 times (I had never been bit previously) and my husband was bit 7 times. We've been vacuuming every single day. Is it necessary to move furniture and spray every inch of the carpet/floor with Ultracide? Do we then have to move the furniture and vacuum every single inch? We haven't moved anything and have only sprayed/vacuumed the visible, easy-to-reach locations.
    A
What you are describing is very normal when dealing with flea infestations. You will need to vacuum and spray with Ultracide all of the carpet, paying special attention to the places the cats like to spend time resting. This initial spray application will help knockdown the jumping biting adults that are present at the time of the application. The daily followup vacuuming will help speed up the life cycle of the flea so that the pupae (immature fleas) will become exposed to the insecticide. You will need to do a second application to get any of the stragglers. You should expect to see fleas, usually smaller than the ones you were seeing before, for a couple of weeks after you start treating.
