    Q
Is ryegrass safe with snapshot 2.5 TG?
I planted a southern Indians mix last fall on bluegrass, rye grass and fescue. Can I use Snapshot with this?
    A

Snapshot is for use in ornamental and landscape beds. Per the product label for Snapshot 2.5 TG - 50 lbs: Accidential application to turf may occur when applying.  It is not recommended for weed control in turfgrass, but turfgrasses are generally tolerant to small amounts of the product that fall outside of the intended area of application. You can, however, use something like Pendulum 2G, it is labeled to be used on turfgrass if you are looking for a pre emergent safe for established lawns.

  • Asked by Elaine from Salem, Ohio

    Q
Can Snapshot 2.5 TG - 50 lbs. get too much water?
Will it be ok if I put it down and it rains hard all day?
    A

Snapshot 2.5 TG - 50 lbs. does require watering in after application to get down into the soil to create the barrier. If there is a heavy rain that happens before this is down or right after application it could move the granules, making the application ineffective. It would be best to wait until no heavy rain is expected within 24 hours and then water in 1/2 inch after application.

    Q
Is Snapshot safe to use on Japanese maples?
    A

Snaptshot 2.5 TG is labeled for use around a wide variety of species of maple trees, including varieties of Japanese maples, as long as they are established plants. You may want to check your use rates and make sure its not being over applied for weed prevention in those areas, or take a break from using it to see if the life of the tree improves. You can also utilize an arborist in your area to inspect the tree for any signs that could be causing the decline like lack of nutrients, insects, or disease.

    Q
Can I use Snapshot in mulch beds?
I have mulch beds with varies plants. I have weeded, but onion weeds keep returning.
    A

Snapshot 2.5 TG is not labeled to prevent wild onion and there is no pre-emergent that will. Wild Onion can be dug out to remove the bulbs for best non chemical results. You are just limited on what you can spray in areas with desirable plants and must spot treat directly with non selective herbicides.

    Q
Can Snapshot2.5 TG be used for English ivy? The ivy has been pulled out but want to apply a pre-emergent to prevent germination.
    A

Snapshot 2.5 TG Herbicide would not stop English Ivy from emerging. The best way to keep that species from coming back is with consistent efforts spot treating any new green plant tissue as soon as you see it emerging from the soil, and hand remove or rake out as much of the root system as you can. Pre emergents will not stop woody vine type plants from coming back.

    Q
Will Snapshot eliminate weeds or should I have a different product applied?
Using lawn service to handle weeds in beds.
    A

Snapshot 2.5 TG is a pre-emergent, meaning that it prevents seeds from germinating. This product will help to prevent labeled weeds from coming up when used as instructed, however, it will not control already existing or actively growing weeds. Broadleaf weeds in a flower & ornamental beds will be treated very differently and much more carefully than would be needed in a lawn. Any broadleaf weeds (like clover, violets, dandelion, bittercress, etc) have to be hand pulled or directly spot treated with a general weed control product or roundup. Since broadleaf weeds are so similar in nature to most plants found in bedding areas, you would not be able to spray over the top without harming both. Any grassy weeds can usually be controlled with an over the top broadcast spray in flower beds with no worry of harm coming to them, but you will always want to check the product label for your specific species to be sure it’s safe. We recommend using pre-emergents as that is the most effective way to stop weeds especially in flower bed areas where chemical options are limited. Below you fill find links to liquid and granule options for your bedding areas.

    Q
When can I replant edible perennials in an area where Snapshot 2.5 TG Herbicide has been applied?
A landscaping company we hired to mulch around edible plants (oregano, rosemary, and sage) mistakenly applied snapshot to the area. Are these plants no longer edible and should we remove them? If yes, how long do we have to wait before it's safe to plant new edible plants in this area?
    A

Snapshot Herbicide is not for use around any edibles (especially herbs) or where you plan to plant edibles. If Snapshot has been used around herbs or other vegetables, you would need to discard of the plant/fruit and would need to wait a full year before you could harvest crops from an area treated with it or plant again in the area.

    Q
Is Snapshot 2.5 TG Herbicide labeled for prevention of sticker weeds from germinating as well as killing actively growing sticker weeds?
    A

Snapshot 2.5 TG is not labeled to for pre emergent or post emergent control of stickers (lawn burweed) and can only be used in landscape beds, ornamentals, etc.

For Lawn Applciations, Pendulum 2G Herbicide is labeled for pre emergent control of lawn burweed and can be used in both lawns and around listed ornamentals to prevent weeds from germinating. Please review the product label for full list of tolerant ornamentals and turfgrass types.

For actively growing lawn burweed in lawn, Ferti-Lome Weed-Out Broadleaf Weed Control can be used depending on your turfgrass. Review the product label for your turfgrass and application rates.

In landscape beds or around ornamentals, actively growing Lawn Burweed will have to be directly spot treated with a non selective such as Roundup QuickPRO.  There is not a selective post emergent that will kill the lawn burweed without injurying ornamentals, flowers, or shrubs,.
