    Kills Bermuda Grass

    By Anonymous on 08/17/2013

    Verified Purchase

Vantage grass killer works on thin bladed grasses, like Bermuda, without killing centipede. Using as directed, it does a decent job, with results in about 2 or 3 weeks. The only problem, as anyone dealing with the "devil's weed Bermuda" knows, it is next to impossible to completely eradicate the stuff. This is the best product I have found that at least keeps it at bay and doesn't harm the centipede. You will need to retreat emerging Bermuda about every 2 months or so.

If you have a centipede lawn, this is a great product. Be sure to spray at least 12 hours before any rain. Takes awhile(1 to 2 weeks) to see any results.

    vantage grass killer

    By James on 09/18/2014

This stuff works quite well on centipede lawns. You must be accurate with measuring. Follow directions exactly on precautions; dress appropriately!!! Works well around flower beds. Again, read directions as to which plants are tolerant to this product.

Q
Can Southern Ag be used on St. Augustine to kill wild Bermuda grass without killing the St. Augustine?
A
Southern Ag Vantage Grass Killer is not labeled for use on St Augustine grasses and may cause damage to your lawn if used. The best method of removing Bermuda from St Augustine is to spot treat the Bermuda with a non-selective herbicide such as Round Up Quick Pro and then reseed/re-sod those areas.

Q
Will Vantage Grass Killer kill Liriope
A
Liriope is actually listed as a tolerant shrub to the Vantage Grass killer.
Unfortunately, once the liriope are up and thriving the only way to kill it is to carefully spot treat with a glyphosate product such as Agrisel Gly Pho-Sel Pro. Agrisel Gly Pho-Sel Pro is a non-selective herbicide which means it will kill most types of vegetation including desirable turfgrasses, so care must be used when applying this product to the turf areas.

Q
What product can I use to treat crabgrass that is safe for centipede grass?
A
As you probably know, Centipedegrass is a very sensitive species of turf so many products that eliminate the crabgrass and other weeds can also cause damage to your lawn. Hi Yield Atrazine is safe to be used on Centipede and it will suppress Crabgrass but may not completely eliminate it. It will also control a large variety of other broadleaf weeds. Tenacity is a great pre and post emergent herbicide that will control crabgrass along with many other types of weeds without harming your centipede lawn. Make sure to read the Tenacity label very carefully and mix exactly what is recommended as this is a strong product and mis-using it can cause temporary turf injury. When applying tenacity it is highly recommended to use a temporary turf colorant like Turf Mark Blue to allow you to see where you are spraying. Overlapping your application of Tenacity can cause temporary whitening of the lawn as well, but the color will return in 3-4 weeks at most. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Q
I just sodded my yard with centipede about 4 weeks ago. What can I use to spot spray and kill crabgrass?

I do not want to harm the centipede while spot spraying the crabgrass. Do you have a recommended product I can use in my back-pack sprayer? Thanks

A
It is recommended that you wait a full growing cycle before applying pre or post emergents on your grass to ensure it can handle the shock of applying an herbicide.  We recommend that you mow your grass often to suppress the clover, water it often, and wait until next early summer to treat the clover if it still exists.  At that point in time your grass would have gone through the spring growing season and should be able to handle the application of an herbicide.  You can always carefully spot treat with a glyphosate like Ranger Pro.

Q
Mixing RATIO of VANTAGE to Water

In North Florida with a centipede grass lawn which has a small area of burmuda grass, using a 3 gallon hand sprayer, how many ounces of VANTAGE should I use per 3 gallons to kill the burmuda grass? And when should I apply it?

A
You would use 0.5 - 1.4 oz. of Southern Ag Vantage Grass Killer per 1,000 sq. ft (the amout of water is not as important as applying the proper amount of herbicide to the 1,000 sq foot section) for a broadcast application or 2 - 3 oz per gallon of water for spot treatments.

Q
Is Vantage the best grass herbicide to use in existing clover food plots?
A
Southern Ag Vantage Grass Killer is not labeled to be used in food plots.  Instead we recommend you use a product with Sethoxydim such as Over The Top II which is labeled for use on edible vegetation and also is a post-emergent grassy weed herbicide like Vantage.

Q
Can I use Vantage to control Japanese Stiltgrass in my English Ivy?
A
Southern Ag Vantage Grass Killer is not labeled for Japanese Stiltgrass. There are products that are labeled for Japenese Stiltgrass, but it is possible that it could kill the English Ivy as well. If you can only spot treat, Bayer Advanced Bermudagrass Control RTS is a good product.

Q
is it safe to use VANTAGE on a centipede lawn during the lawns dorment perion to control bermuda and/or bahia

i have a centipede lawn with localized bermuda and/or bahia infestitation. is it ok to use vantage in the fall/winter when the grasses(including centipede) is dorment ?

A
While it is safe to use it on your lawn when it is dormant, it will be a complete waste of money and product as it will not kill what is currently there. Post emergent products like Vantage will only kill the weeds you are targeting when they are in an actively growing state and are absorbing nutrients. If they are dormant already, it will not absorb the product at all and will not be affected by it.

Q
Is Southern Ag Vantage Grass Killer safe to use on fescue?

I seem to have an infestation of ryegrass in my Tall fescue lawn. What is the best product to use to get rid of ryegrass in the post emergent state without killing the rest of my lawn?

A
Southern Ag Vantage Grass Killer is not labeled to be used in lawns and will suppress the growth of Tall Fescue. Ryegrass and Tall Fescue are both cool season grass which makes it very hard to kill the Ryegrass selectively. Therefore, we would recommend spot treating the Ryegrass with a Glyphosate product such as Killzall and then reseeding with Pennington Smart Seed Tall Fescue Blend.
