About Stink Bug Spray

Stink bug sprays can help relieve the nuisance of a stink bug infestation. It can be especially helpful when the exterior of the building can’t be completely sealed to keep the bugs from entering the structure. Stink bugs look for places to overwinter in the fall; so treating your home’s exterior will help to prevent them from getting inside.

You can also use stink bug sprays to treat the surrounding vegetation on your property, since the plants, fruits, or vegetables might be what is attracting the stink bugs to your area.  They are known as agricultural pests and can cause heavy damage to produce if not controlled, so spraying your most prized plants can help to protect them from stink bug damage.

How To Use Stink Bug Spray

A broad-spectrum pesticide formulated to control stink bugs is what you will find available for use. Many can be used indoors and outdoors, and have the added benefit of controlling a huge range of nuisance insects that you want to protect your home and yard from. Here are some tips specific to using this type of insecticide for stink bugs.

  • Stink bugs have several generations in a year. If protecting your garden is most important, you will need to reapply stink bug sprays several times. Once you kill one wave of stink bugs, you will have to reapply to guard against the next wave.
  • Resistance to active ingredients in these insecticides is a concern. Rotating products with different active ingredients can help to avoid this.
  • Thorough application is key to keeping your plants and produce protected. Make sure that the product you choose is labeled for use on edibles. Some products cannot be used on certain vegetables, so read all labels carefully.
  • To protect your home, applying stink bug sprays as a barrier treatment will be effective. Timing is important when trying to prevent overwintering adults from resting on the exterior of your home and finding their way inside. Time application before congregation begins, usually in September.
  • You can also use many of these products indoors. Just make sure to read labels and warnings carefully, and aim to treat cracks and crevices around windows, doors, and other possible access points.
