SureGuard SC is a fast acting selective contact herbicide for use in container and field grown conifers (including Christmas trees) and deciduous trees, around established woody ornamentals in landscapes and dormant Bermudagrass, bare ground non-crop areas, and for undesirable aquatic vegetation in slow moving or dormant waters. It is an herbicide that provides long-lasting residual control of grass and broadleaf weeds.
This all-in-one product delivers superior weed control in bare ground, landscapes, nurseries, cracks and crevices, dormant Bermudagrass and aquatic sites. Featuring a patent-pending liquid soluble concentrate formula, it provides pre-emergence and post-emergence weed control of even the toughest weeds and nuisance plants including beggarweed, bittercress, barnyardgrass, chickweed, crabgrass, dandelion, groundsel, pigweed, ragweed, velvetleaf, alligator weed, duckweed, water fern, water lettuce, watermeal and more. It controls weeds by inhibiting protoporphyrinogen oxidase, an essential enzyme required by plants for chlorophyll biosynthesis. Seedling weeds are controlled preemergence when exposed to sunlight following contact with the soil applied herbicide. It also provides quick and effective knockdown when tank mixed with glyphosate, even on weeds that are resistant to glyphosate. This non-staining spray formulation is easy to mix and apply, without leaving an odor, yellow color or concerns with off-target movement and volatility.

Commercial & Residential: Container & Field Grown Conifers (Christmas Trees), Broad-leaf Trees, Woody Ornamental Plants in Landscaping, Bare Ground Non-Crop areas, Dormant Bermudagrass and Aquatic Vegetation in Slow Moving Waters |
Application |
Pre-emergence Weed Control: Mix 0.21 - 0.42 fluid ounces of this product per gallon of spray solution and apply 1 gallon of spray solution to 500 - 1,000 square feet prior to weed germination. Apply to weed free soil, mulch or gravel surfaces. Moisture is necessary to activate this product on soil for residual weed control. Post-emergence Weed Control: Mix 0.21 - 0.42 fluid ounces of this product per gallon and apply 1 gallon of spray solution to 500 - 1,000 square feet to actively growing weeds. Tank mixing this product with glyphosate will increase the spectrum of post-emergent weed control and provide faster post-emergent weed control than glyphosate alone. Broadcast Application: Apply 8 - 12 fluid ounces of this product per broadcast acre as a pre-emergence application. If weeds are present at the time of application apply this product plus an adjuvant (0.25% v/v non-ionic surfactant). Make post-emergence applications when weeds are actively growing and no larger than 2 |

PRE-EMERGENT APPLICATION
Pre-emergent application of SureGuard SC should be made prior to weed emergence. Moisture is necessary to activate this herbicide for residual weed control. Moisture is needed to move this herbicide into the soil for pre-emergent weed control. Dry weather following application of SureGuard SC may reduce effectiveness. However, when adequate moisture is received after dry conditions, this herbicide will control susceptible germinating weeds.
When adequate moisture is not received soon after SureGuard SC is applied to soil, weed control may be improved by using shallow cultivation. If weeds begin to emerge, irrigate (1/2" of water) or cultivate uniformly with shallow tillage equipment that will not damage the crop. Deep cultivation reduces the effectiveness of the herbicide and should be avoided.
POST-EMERGENT APPLICATION
For best results, SureGuard SC should be applied to actively growing weeds. The most effective post-emergent weed control with SureGuard SC occurs when applied in combination with a surfactant to weeds less than 2 inches in height. Applying SureGuard SC under conditions that do not promote active weed growth will reduce herbicide effectiveness. Do not apply this when the weeds are under stress due to drought, excessive water and extremes in temperatures or disease. This is most effective when applied under sunny conditions at temperatures above 65 F. SureGuard SC is rainfast one hour after application. Applications should not be made if rain is expected within one hour of application or efficacy may be reduced.

This stuff ain’t cheap but if you want controlled areas with lasting results it’s the best. In New Mexico we almost need year-round coverage. Apply this twice a year for total control, once if you’re ok doing a little gardening. DONT Treat same area MORE THAN TWICE. It’s too expensive and you don’t need it. I ran out a couple a seasons back and thought I try to go a year without it. That ended up becoming a huge waste of time.

How long do I need to wait to plant after spraying Sureguard SC? Read the label and didn't see anything mentioning this aside from don't spray around plants that may be in shock from transplanting. Can I plant new shrubs then spray beds and mulch with this or do I need to wait?
The label states you could use Sureguard at least 2 months before you install ornamental plants or after ornamental plants are established. You would need to avoid over-the-top applications so it would just be a directed spray directly to the ground (not on any leaf foliage, stems, etc) You can view the full list of tolerant plants on the label.
