Suspend SC Insecticide - Questions & Answers

Suspend SC is a very good product. It is a general pesticide that is labeled to treat various pests, including ants, roaches, spiders, etc. Suspend SC can be used indoors and outdoors. The residual is about 3 months indoors and 1 month outdoors. You will spray around the baseboards and cracks and crevices indoors. Outdoors, you can spray around the perimeter of your home.

Suspend SC is labeled for ticks and can be applied to lawns and landscaped areas. It will be mixed at a 1.5 fl oz per gallon of water per 1,000 sq ft once a month.

Yes, Suspend SC is labeled for carpet beetle control and it will eliminate carpet beetles that come into contact with treated areas. It is very important that the source of the infestation (where the damaging larva is harboring) is discovered and eliminated, not just the visible adult insects you see wandering around. Until you find out what that is and deal with it you will continue to get more of the carpet beetles emerging from hiding. Carpet beetles may be as likely to feed on grain based food materials as they are on animal byproducts. Pet foods stored in forgotten places, baking goods left too long in the cupboard, rodent baits tossed in the attic - all of these are quite susceptible to carpet beetle feeding. Plus, you also have the typical carpet beetle diets of dead insects (wasp nests in the attic, dead insects in window sills), feathers (bird nests, dead birds), hair (dead rodents, wool products, trophy mounts), and other things made from animal byproducts. Once the source of the infestation is removed or cleaned, using Suspend SC will help get rid of the annoying adult beetles. You can spray once a month until all of the beetles are gone.

Suspend SC will kill Daddy Long legs that come into the treated area.

In most cases, a respirator would not be needed. Typically, you would spray the Suspend SC either outdoors or indoors in ventilated areas. There would be no need to mix Zenprox with Suspend. That would be a waste of product. Suspend SC would be the best option for Brown Recluse Spider control. Suspend SC leaves a clear residual on surfaces that keeps on killing pests for up to 3 months.

Suspend SC will kill adult fleas. To take care of the immature fleas, you want to incorporate an IGR. You can mix in Precor IGR with the Suspend and water. You can spray the area with Suspend but you must wait at least 90 days before using the area for an edible garden.

Suspend SC needs to be applied when it is dry condition and will be dry for at least 6 hours after you spray. Typically after 6 hours of dry time the product will be considered "rain fast". With heavy rain conditions you may have to reapply as early as 21 days after initial spray rather than the normal 30 to 60 you can sometimes get with this product.

No, Suspend SC is not labeled to kill Bed Bug eggs. However, Bedlam and Bedlam Plus are labeled to kill both Bed Bugs and their eggs.

No, Suspend SC will not kill lizards. It is only strong enough to kill the small insects listed on the label. 

We would recommend using Suspend SC. It is a very good residual product that can be sprayed indoors and outdoors. Indoors, you will spray along the baseboards and cracks and crevices. Outdoors, you can spray around the perimeter of your home and in places where the spiders would reside. Once the product is dry, it is safe for your children to return to the room. It also dries clear.

Suspend SC is really labeled to be applied to cracks and crevices not as a broadcast over carpet. If you were to vacuum a treated area after it has dried it would not take the product up.

The outdoor residual effects of Suspend SC, Bifen IT, and Talstar P are all 30 days outdoors. However, if you would like a longer outdoor residual then Suspend Polyzone would be ideal for your mosquito control needs. Suspend Polyzone has a 90 day residual outdoors utilizing the same active ingredient as the regular Suspend SC but the added polymer allows the insecticide to adhere to surfaces better and resist the elements of weather.

Suspend SC like many other products will kill termites if the product comes in direct contact with the termites.  However, it will only kill the termites that do contact it, not the termites or the queen that might be below the ground or deeper in the wood.  For this reason, a product called Termidor SC is considered to the best termite product available and is the most popular product used by professional companies today. Termidor SC will kill all of the termites in the colony, not just the ones that it touches.  You still need to have the product contact a few of the termites by drilling holes into the wood and treating them directly, or by treating the soil around the structure as explained in our "How To Do A Termite Treatment" article.

Yes, Suspend SC can kill just about any type of spider, but generally speaking the spiders will take a long time to die. We usually recommend using Cyper WP. Cypermethrin, the active ingredient in Cyper WP, is known to be one of the most effective active ingredients for spiders and other hard to kill insects. Nyguard IGR can be mixed with Suspend SC as directed on the product label.

You will mix 1 fl oz of Suspend and 1 fl oz of Gentrol together in 1 gallon of water for bedbug applications. Suspend and Gentrol are both concentrates.

Suspend SC can be used as a broadcast spray on lawns and on ornamental plants to protect these areas from lawn/ornamental plant infesting insects and it can be used as a perimeter barrier spray to stop pests from getting into your home. When using Suspend SC as directed on the product label you would apply only to cracks, crevices, voids and other inaccessible areas. If you followed the product label it is not necessary to wipe down anything. The kids and pets simply need to stay out of the area until it has dried and then they can safely return. The only time you would need to wipe anything off would be if you over sprayed onto areas not listed on the product label. If that was the case you would need to wash the area down with soap and water to remove any insecticide.
