    Q
Can Talstar P be sprayed into a vent?
I believe that the roaches that we had are coming from a neighbor's apt through vents. Can I spray it directly on the vent covering?
    A

No, unfortunately Talstar P (Talstar One) is not labeled for application directly into a vent as this could result in the insecticide making its way through your air vents and you could possibly inhale the product and breathe it in.  If you feel that roaches are coming from your neighbor's apt we would suggest using a bait right outside of your vents.  You could use Maxforce FC Magnum or any of the other excellent roach bait gels that we sell.

    Q
Do you have a program to cover the major insect pests: ants, spiders, roaches, termites?
We don't have a specific problem, although we notice some spiders, and an occasional ant or roach every few months. I'd like to start a regular program to make sure we never develop a problem. Currently, I set out roach traps every 6 months and use a fire ant bait every year in the yard.
    A

Our most popular general use product is called Talstar.  It is widely used by pest control companies because it is labeled for almost every insect you could have a problem with and you can use it outside the home as well as inside, it is odorless and very safe for use around children and pets.  It is a liquid concentrate that you mix with water in a one gallon hand pump sprayer.  It will last for 60 to 90 days outside in between treatments.  It is also labeled for lawn and ornamental use, and can be used on trees, plants, bushes and shrubs for all sorts of ornamental pests including Japanese beetles, mosquitoes, and other leaf eating pests.

We have a great article here on doing your own quarterly pest control.

    Q
what can i use for inside and outside for general insect kill
I am currently on a quarterly spray but would like to do my own to save me money ,I would like to known what all in one product I could mix and apply that would kill most common insects and bugs that won't pets or leave a white residue on things. Also I would like mouse blocks that can be used in boxes and also just thrown under the house . Please show what your best options are in a concentrate to mix and use on a quarterly basis. Thanks
    A

Talstar P is labeled for over 75 types of insects and our most popular insecticide for general pest control. Talstar P has a residual of 30 days outside (perimeter or broadcast spray) and 90 days inside the home(crack and crevice) Talstar One is odorless, dries clear, leaves no stains, is non-irritating to the skin, and won't break down easily with rainfall.

For Mice control, depending on the level of infestation we recommend the Protecta RTU Mouse Bait Stations Case(12 Stations) with Fastrac Blox. These stations hold 1 bait blox and can be placed in corners where mice travel. Fastrac is a quick knockdown rodenticide with a Stop feed action after consuming lethal dose, usually within 12-48 hours.

If you are needing a larger bait station, we recommend the Protecta Mouse Bait Station that can hold up to 4 standard size blox. These would work better for you under the home.

    Q
How can I get rid of my roaches?
I bought Talstar and have been using it for 2 weeks. The roaches are getting worse instead of better. I also used Invict Gold bait. What am I doing wrong?
    A
While Talstar will kill roaches that come in contact with it, it will not stop the problem. Make sure you are not baiting where you have sprayed. Also, be sure that you are only applying little green pea size dabs of bait and re baiting once a week. We would also recommend to include Gentol IGR Point Source. Gentrol Point Source is a special Roach control device that contains the Gentrol Insect Growth Regulator (IGR) hydroprene for 90-day control of roaches and other stored product pests. Activating Gentrol Point Source is as simple as squeezing the raised end of the plastic, adhesive-back device. This releases Gentrol IGR onto a filter paper. From there, it moves up to 75 square feet, damaging adult roaches and preventing them from reproducing.

    Q
Looking for something to mix in with 2 4d, or fertilizer to kill fire ants. Can I do that with Talstar?
    A
Talstar will kill the ants (including fire ants) that come in direct contact with the treated areas. It is recommended by the manufacturer to apply as a mound drench for treating this ant species. Please refer to page 10 of the product label for detailed application instructions.

    Q
    Will Talstar harm reptiles?
    A
As long as the reptiles are out of the area while you are doing the actual application of the Talstar, it shouldn't effect them. You will most likely see a reduction in the reptile populations on your property though as you will be eliminating their food source (insects).

    Q
What is a general recommendation for a program/steps to minimize/eliminate spiders, ants and insects in a home?
My wife and I purchased a renovated home in June 2014. Typical two story colonial with a basement and crawlspace just Northeast of Philadelphia. We've seen a few ants and spiders as we've moved into the Fall season. Is there a DIY suggested program to apply to the house to protect it from insects and to eliminate those that may be starting to come inside?
    A
Using Talstar P would be a great option for outdoor perimeter and indoor control. Talstar P is labeled for over 75 types of insects and will leave a 90 day residual inside the home and 30 day residual outside the home.  In a hand pump sprayer, mix .33-1 fl oz of Talstar with 1 gallon of water. Spray 2-3ft up the foundation and 2-3ft out from the foundation focusing on entry points to the home (window frames, window sills, door entries, cracks in foundation, etc) . Inside the home, spray Talstar as a crack and crevice treament along baseboards, corners, storage areas, closets, around water pipes, doors and windows, attics and eaves, behind and under refrigerators, cabinets, sinks, furnaces, stoves, the underside of shelves, drawers and similar areas.

    Q
I did use Talstar on the inside bottom of couch , will this hurt family
    A

Talstar P is not labeled to be used on furniture, only as a crack and crevice treatment. The label reads to apply as a coarse, low pressure, crack and crevice or spot spray to areas where pests hide, such as baseboards, corners, storage areas, closets, around water pipes, doors and windows, attics and eaves, behind and under refrigerators, cabinets, sinks, furnaces, stoves, the underside of shelves, drawers and similar areas.

We recommend steam cleaning the furniture where the Talstar P has been applied to remove any residual. Please read label thoroughly for listed areas on where Talstar P is to be applied.

    Q
3 months ago I treated for whitefly on ficus hedges. I have just treated them again but they are infested still
    A
If you are using a systemic product to treat it can take up to 8 weeks for the product to be translocated throughout the plant.  We recommend while that is working and if you have an active infestation that you spray the foiliage with something like Talstar P that will start killing after applied.  It is important to spray the underside of the leaves on infested plants for effective control. Heavily infested leaves should be plucked off the plant and tossed in a bucket of soapy water.

    Q
what is the best product to spray around the house to stop all kind of bugs getting inside?
I bought a house recently and my previous owner has a service with terminix for pests and termites and I also see sentricon systems around my house. He pays 400 $ for termites per year and 50 $ for pests and I have continued the service for few months but I decided to stop it as all they does is spray some liquid around the house. Could you recommend the best spray so that spray it myself I live in MA(02067) and my house is crawlspace house that means no basement.
    A

Talstar P is one of the best general purpose insecticides for indoor and outdoor use. It is labeled for over 75 insects, leaves a 30 day residual outdoors and a 90 day residual indoors.  Mixing at .5- 1.0oz per gallon of water, it is a very easy product to use.

Outdoors, Talstar P can be sprayed as a perimeter treatment (3ft up & 3ft out from foundation), around windows, doors, bushes, plants trees, broadcasted over the entire lawn.

Indoors, Talstar P is to be applied as a crack and crevice treatment along baseboards, windows, doors, behind appliances, under sinks, toilets, around water pipes.

    Q
Need to control a few large american roaches finding their way into the home
I believe our problem started about 3 years ago when I discovered a hole in the lid of my septic tank. The tank had become infested with the large brown (i believe american) roaches. Occasionally we would find one in the house. This year my septic tank was pumped and repaired and I don't see anymore roaches in there. But I believe they may still be in the ground around the septic tank and still finding their way into our house. I can't find how they're getting in, but one thought would be to kill the outside colony. Is this possible? What products should I use? Whenever I spray my normal outside insectiside heavily in the area, it seems better for a little while, but not permanently. I do see several holes in the ground about quarter size that makes me think it could be their ground access.

How to Control American Roaches / Palmetto Bugs

American Roaches come from the outside of the home, so it is best to spray a liquid insecticide around the outside foundation of the home such as Talstar One or Cynoff WP, rather than using roach baits. Also focus on sealing up cracks around doors and in the foundation so roaches can't get in.

    1. Repair damage to screens, door frames, or exterior siding that may provide entry from outside.
    2. Repair any leaks or excess water floor near the structure and ventilate other moist spaces. American cockroaches are highly attracted to water.
    3. Remove rotting leaves, garbage cans, or compost piles as far from the structure as possible.
    4. Use a residual spray such as Talstar One or Cynoff WP outside around all points of possible entry including windows and door frames, dryer vents, and pipe openings. Use the same residual indoors along baseboards and framed entry points.
    5. For added protection, apply Talstar Granules outside around the base of the house as a perimeter treatment.

    Q
Which insecticide is the most effective for camel crickets specifically?
Hi, I see that your website offers an array of insecticides. I am targeting camelback crickets specifically (anything else that dies is a plus). How would you rank the insecticides (I plan on doing an indoor and outdoor spray) Demon WP, Bifen IT, and Tempo SC)? Not that price is an issue, but if I am going to to the exterior as well, it wouldn't hurt if the price isn't too hard on the wallet. Thanks in advance.
    A
With Talstar P the crickets just need to cross over treated areas to get a lethal dose of the insecticide. With the Niban FG they need to be attracted to and then consume the bait. Both products work great and both will do a great job it just breaks down to what is needed for your particular space. Is it okay to apply an insecticide? Can you get to the areas that need to be treated? If so an insecticide like Talstar will work very well.

    Q
What is Bifenthrin in Talstar, and do you have any products to use with a fogger for carpet beetles?
    A
Bifenthrin is the active ingredient in Talstar P. It is mixed at 1 oz per gallon per 1,000 sq ft per month on the exterior of the structure and once every three months indoors (cracks and crevices). Using a fogger will not penetrate into cracks and crevices where carpet beetle larvae hide, and it does not leave a residual to kill insects later when they come out of hiding.  This product will only kill what is out in the open when it goes off.  We recommend reading our articles on carpet beetle control.

    Pest Control-Products Outside of House
I want to put some pest control outside around the house, in the brick crevices etc... An exterminator company came to the house last week offering a sale of $120 every 2 months to preventative control, for spiders, mice, whatever other bugs are outside. I just built my house which is outside of town in a subdivision, but across the street we have open, fields etc... I have purchased from this website before, and I figured I would give it a shot at doing it myself before paying those rates. What product would you recommend?

Talstar is also available in a granule formula called Talstar PL if you prefer to use granules.

Talstar P can be applied for above ground termites but will take a couple of hours to dry and you should leave the home after treatment until the surfaces are dry. You can sleep in the home afterwards. Talstar will not be an instant kill. Please contact us for information on termite treatments at 866-581-7378 M-F 9-5PM EST. Q
When using a mist blower, how far into a treeline should we treat for mosquitos?
Our back yard (1/4 acre) is surrounded by dense woods with substantial underbrush on three sides and we're wondering how far into the woods we'd need to blow a misting pesticide like Telstar P into the cover to provide defense against biting black flies and mosquitos. Of course, this would be done in conjunction to the spraying of shrubs and patio areas in the main part of the yard. Additionally, where we don't spend nearly as much time in the front yard (1/4 acre, open to a street) as the back, is it worth spraying the shrubs and trees in that area as vigorously as the backyard?
    A
There is no definite "coverage area" for mosquitoes because they are flying insects. However, keep in mind that the better the coverage, the better the results. For best results we would recommend treating as far back into the woods as possible and also ask neighbors about the possibility of treating their property. The larger the treated zone the more impact on the mosquito population. You want to treat all bushes, shrubs, and low lying tree branches and be sure to get the undersides of the leaves which is where those pesky mosquitoes like to hide during the day.
