  • Asked by Rick from Mn

    Q
Can Talstar be sprayed near a pond?
    A

Talstar is not labeled to be used around ponds, lakes or other water sources. Applications should be kept at least 25 feet away from the pond.  Depending on what you are treating for, you could also use something like EcoVia EC instead, which is labeled for many of the same pests and will not harm aquatic life.

  • Asked by Richard from Longs, Sc
    07/15/2018
    Q
I am getting some mole traffic from my neighbors property. Is Talstar P effective grub control?
    South Carolina. Bermuda lawn.
    A

Talstar P (Talstar One) is not labeled for grub worms and most likely will not provide satisfactory results when used to control them. We do have several products that are specifically labeled for grub worms on our website: Grub Worm Control. We also recommend that you contact your local cooperative extension office and inquire about the best time to start treatments for grubs in your region. In many parts of the country the grubs are already matured and they are emerging as adult beetles. For mole products and treatment information, pleae check out our article on How to Get Rid of Moles.

  • Asked by Rob from New Richmond, Oh
    07/18/2018
    Q
What style of spray tip is recommended best insecticide coverage using Talstar P for mosquitoes applied in a boom sprayer?
I have a towable boom sprayer that I will be using, but am wondering if the fan-style nozzles I currently have are the best option. I read that cone-style may perform better for insecticide applications, but that information was more for agricultural purposes rather than residential applications.
    A

A fan tip spray using the Talstar P is a great option as well as the cone tip. You also want to make sure the undersides of the leaves are treated with the product as well. Please review our article on How to Get Rid of Mosquitoes for more information on the treatment of this pest.

  • Asked by Dan from Prescott, Wi
    08/07/2018
    Q
What can I use to get rid of gnats?
    A

Gnat is a very general term used to describe a wide variety of small flying pests including fruit flies, drain flies, fungus gnats, no-see-ums, mosquitoes, etc. You can use a general insecticide like Talstar P on the outside of your home on all the window and door frames and on window screens to try and prevent pests from entering your home. We cannot give more specific information or treatment products unless we know exactly what species of pest you are dealing with so that we can narrow down where the problem is coming from and address it directly.

  • Asked by Mark from Maine
    08/08/2018
    Q
FMC the manufacturer of Talstar does not recommend applying with a hose end sprayer. Is that because it's less effective?
    A

Talstar P (Talstar One) is not labeled to be applied with hose end sprayer, because it is a professional grade product. You can apply with a hose end sprayer. The same application rates apply. Keep in mind using a hose end sprayer can be a little more difficult to calibrate than simply mixing 1oz per gallon water in a pump sprayer, but we have many customers that use the hose end sprayer application.

  • Asked by Erika from Newton Falls, Oh
    08/15/2018
    Q
Can I use Talstar P as an indoor broadcast spray for fleas?
I didn't read into it very carefully and broadcast sprayed my entire house for fleas..oops. now what do I do? Although everything from fleas to flies are dead.
    A

You should not repeat the treatment you have already made indoors using Talstar P. You can use Talstar P for flea control outdoors at a rate of 1 oz per 1000 sq ft around turf and ornamentals. Indoors, you can use a steamer or carpet cleaner to break down some of the residual application. At least 14 days after that application, we recommend retreating with a product for indoor flea treatment such as PT Alpine Flea and Bed Bug Aerosol. Be sure to vacuum well before spraying and then every day or every other day after. Please refer to our online Flea Treatment Guide for more tips on eradicating this pest.

  • Asked by Tanya from Centerburg, Oh
    09/04/2018
    Q
I just realized I was mixing the Talstar P (Talstar One) too strong at 3 oz to a gallon. What should I do?
    A

Making a pesticide like Talstar P (Talstar One) too strong can actually backfire. Areas that are treated with this overly concentrated spray will be repellent and insects will simply avoid the treated areas prolonging the infestation.  Simply wipe down, or wash off areas of application and re-apply at the correct rate of 1 oz to a gallon of water.

  • Asked by Ron from Houston, Texas

    Q
I've read conflicting responses as to timing of watering - wait or water immediately after Talstar application
I'm using the liquid version on St Augustine grass to kill chinch bugs in lawn. Sometimes it seem that you suggest waiting 6 hours before rain or watering. Other times it seems that you say water in immediately after application 0.25 to .5 inches.
    A

When you are using Talstar P (Talstar One) to treat for subsurface insects such as mole crickets, chinch bugs, etc., you will to water in after application per the product label.  When applying as pest control product for surface pests, you will wait to water at least 24 hours after application.
