The most popular product for sod webworms is Talstar. Talstar is very effective on most insects and it is safe for bahia grass. Time applications to control young larvae, if possible. Spot treatments may be applied when infestations are first detected and the damaged area is small. The treatment will be most effective if applied in the early evening when larvae begin feeding. Please take a look at our Sod Webworm Treatment Guide for more information.
When the larva or the moths make contact with areas that have been treated with Talstar P they will be killed by the dry residual. They must contact the treated area for any product to work. Typically a crack and crevice application and lots of cleaning and vacuuming will help eliminate these pests. We actually have a pantry pest kit put together which includes six Pro-Pest Pheronet traps for catching pantry moths, plus a 14 oz. can of D-Force Residual Aerosol with a crevice tool (straw) for spraying in cracks and crevices around shelves and walls to kill pantry pest larvae in harborage areas. You can learn more about pantry moths by reading our Pantry Moth Control Articles.
Talstar is an insecticide only and will not kill frogs, nor will it act as a barrier to prevent them from coming into the area. Unfortunately, we do not know of any products that we carry which will do so. You are correct, though, in that using Talstar will reduce the insect population in the area, which will cause it to be less attractive to the frogs.
Talstar P is not labeled to treat for grubs. Dylox 6.2 would be an excellent alternative when treating for grubs that are actively feeding. Merit Granules or Dominion 2L also work well for grubs. We do have several products that are specifically labeled for grub worms on our website: Grub Worm Control. We also recommend that you contact your local cooperative extension office and inquire about the best time to start treatments for grubs in your region.
Yes, Talstar P Professional Insecticide is a great product for chinch bugs. Chinch bugs infest the base of grass plants and are often found in the thatch layer. Chinch bugs can be one of the most difficult pests to control in grasses and the higher applications rates will be required to control populations that contain both nymphs and adults during the summer. It may also be necessary to remove the thatch layer if it exceeds 1 inch in thickness to allow the Talstar to penetrate down to the soil. When treating for chinch bugs it is recommended that you do a second treatment 21-30 days after the first treatment. You will use 1 fl. oz. of product per gallon of water. This will treat 1000 square feet. Be sure to water the product in at least 0.5 inches after it has been applied.
Talstar P Professional Insecticide can be mixed with insect growth regulators such as Precor IGR. Be aware though that Precor is only labeled for use indoors but Talstar cannot be used as a broadcast across surfaces inside the home such as carpets (it is only for cracks and crevices) so if you are treating for fleas it is not the best option as an insecticide. Instead you should use something like Conquer or Onslaught.
Talstar P Professional Insecticide can safely be applied to ornamentals, trees and lawns. You just want to avoid spraying directly on any blooms. We recommend treating early in the morning or in the evening.
Talstar P Professional Insecticide is not labeled to apply to any furniture, mattresses, or other areas that you may come into contact with. Talstar is restricted to baseboards, cracks, and crevices when treating indoors. This product is not meant for use as a broadcast across interior surfaces.
Yes, Talstar P will control/kill milipedes in and around your yard and lawn.
Talstar P Professional Insecticide is toxic to beneficial insects as well. The manufacturer recommends to apply when bees are not pollinating.
Talstar P Professional Insecticide will kill any flies that come in contact with a treated surface, but it is not what we recommend for drain flies. We would recommend our Drain Fly Kit, it contains all the products you should need to successfully treat your drain fly problem, and it includes products that are safe for use inside household drains. We would also recommend taking a look at our guide on How to Get Rid of Drain Flies.
A parasitic wasp is a beneficial wasp that uses other insects including aphids, beetles, caterpillars, flies, sawflies, scale insects and true bugs as hosts into or onto which it lays its eggs. The development of the wasp eggs will usually kill the host insect. Parasitic wasps are considered beneficial insects for the natural control of many pest insects that they provide. A number of parasitic wasp species are commercially available from insectaries.
Talstar P is a great choice for treating the interior and exterior of most buildings and will eliminate over 75 different insect pests. Talstar P is diluted with water as specified by the product label and applied using a hand pump sprayer. Spray directly on baseboards, window frames, door frames, and places where utilities (pipes, wires, cables) enter in to the building and any other crack, crevice or gap where insects can enter.
Unfortunately, there is not another product that is comparable to Talstar P for Japanese Beetles that can be shipped to New York. We recommend that you contact your local cooperative extension office for recommendations.
