Talstar P Professional Insecticide - Questions & Answers

According to the Talstar P product label "all pesticide handlers must wear a respiratory protection device when working in a non-ventilated space." Respiratory devices are not required for well ventilated spaces or outdoor applications. The Talstar P product label also says "all applicators should wear longsleeved shirt and long pants, socks, shoes and chemical-resistant gloves."

Talstar P is labeled for use as a lawn treatment for a variety of different pests. You can read the product label to learn more about the Talstar P applications.

Since Talstar can only be sprayed directly into cracks and crevices around the perimeter of rooms  indoors, any type of floor cleaning you choose should not be a problem.

Talstar P can be used to help control cluster flies indoors and outdoors. If the cluster flies have already made their way indoors they will be harder to control because they usually hide in a wall void or other inaccessible area and are only visible when the house warms up. If the cluster flies are in an attic or drop ceiling or other dark area, a fly light would do a great job controlling the population. Using small fly lights such as the FlyWeb Fly Light in the house would also help to catch the flies. Spray Talstar directly on baseboards, window frames, door frames, and places where utilities (pipes, wires, cables) enter in to the building and any other crack, crevice or gap where insects can enter.

Talstar P is a water based concentrate. Most Emulsifiable concentrates have the initials EC after the name of the product.

Talstar P would be a good choice for you. Talstar p is labeled for spiders and just about any other type of insect too. Talstar is available in gallon size containers that would yield 128 gallons of finished solution and is often chosen because of its economical value and versatility.

Permethrin is not labeled for outdoor mosquito control. We would recommend using Talstar P for tick and mosquito control in your yard. There are not any insecticides on the market that will last for 6 months outdoors. What actually happens is the exterminator will spray a product and wipe out all of the insects nearby and it can take many months for the pests to build back up to an intolerable level. If you have been happy with the treatment the pest control operator has been using you can ask them what product they have been using. Most PCO's will also write the name of the product or the active ingredient on your bill as most states require this. We carry just about any product your PCO would have used. Our most popular general use insecticide among professionals and homeowners is Talstar P. It is widely used by pest control companies because it is labeled for almost every insect you could have a problem with and you can use it outside the home as well as inside, it is odorless and very safe for use around children and pets.  It is a liquid concentrate that you mix with water in a one gallon hand pump sprayer.  It will last for 60 to 90 days outside in between treatments.  It is also labeled for lawn and ornamental use, and can be used on trees, plants, bushes and shrubs for all sorts of ornamental pests including Japanese beetles, mosquitoes, and other leaf eating pests. Talstar P is labeled for whiteflies and will not harm trees as long as you follow the directions listed on the product label.

Yes, Talstar P has been used successfully for rugose spiraling whitefly on palms as a foliage spray. Be sure to follow the product label for complete usage instructions.

You can mix Talstar P with Precor IGR for flea control. According to the new Talstar P product label you can make applications as spot or crack and crevice treatments to areas frequented by pets, such as under bedding, rugs, next to furniture. Vacuum prior to treatment.

What this means is that you cannot broadcast spray your entire carpet with Talstar, you must limit the treatment to "spot" treatments (areas that 2ft x 2ft or less). If you only need to spot treat certain areas you can use Talstar for fleas. If you need to broadcast over entire carpeted rooms you should choose a product which is labeled for indoor broadcast sprays such as Onslaught or Permethrin SFR.

Talstar P is labeled for many beetles but not specifically for the long horned beetle.  However, after doing some research we have found many sites and government studies that list Talstar P as a form of treatment for the long horned beetle.

Talstar P is not labeled for general mites, though mange mites typically are on livestock or pets.  For mange mites, we recommend Tengard SFR which could be used to treat the ground outside, as well as inside the home over a certain area.  Tengard SFR can also be used on a dogs and other livestock (do not use on felines) to kill mites without harming the animal.

Talstar would not be tbe best choice for fleas.  Talstar is a great product for almost any other insect and can be used indoors and outdoors safely.  However, for treatment of fleas the talstar does not have an IGR (insect growth regulator) which is important for the treatment of fleas.  We suggest one of our best selling products for fleas called Ultracide.  It is a product made only for the treatment of fleas and has both an adulticide and an IGR for the treatment of maturing fleas.  It should work great in your garage.  You should treat every 14 days until the problem is gone. 

You can eat the fruit as long as the tree is not sprayed and the soil around the tree is not sprayed. Keep Talstar P out of the trees root zone.

Talstar P is not labeled for use on edible plants and cannot be used on any edible vegetation. Please contact your local cooperative extension for advice on what products are allowed on your herb garden.

Talstar is a water based product and should not damage anything that water itself would not damage. According to the Talstar product label you should apply Talstar no more than once every 7 days. Apply as a coarse, low pressure, crack and crevice or spot spray to areas where pests hide, such as baseboards, corners, storage areas, closets, around water pipes, doors and windows, attics and eaves, behind and under refrigerators, cabinets, sinks, furnaces, stoves, the underside of shelves, drawers and similar areas. Do not use as a space spray. Pay particular attention to cracks and crevices.

The smell and color are not from the Talstar P. Talstar P is a water based product that dries clear and is odorless. It seems like your dog did indeed roll in something that was possibly still damp from the Talstar application, but it is the actual item your pet rolled in (perhaps manure or fertilizer of some kind?) that you have noticed on your pet. We think a bath is in order to wash off any Talstar the dog may have on his coat and to get rid of whatever ever else he rolled in.
