    Q
We have pine beetles all over our apartment building and they are coming inside, how can we get rid of them
    A
Any beetles that are on the outside of the building trying to get in you can treat with a product like Talstar P. Talstar is a great general insecticide that dries clear, is odorless and covers beetles of all types and hundreds of other insects. You can spray it around the foundation of the home and around window and door frames they may be trying to come in through. You can also safely spray down the nearby trees and plants they may be coming from or harboring in. You typically spray Talstar at the rate of 1oz per gallon of water every 30-60 days depending on how the weather affects the products residual over time.

    Q
Bermuda grass turning brown after being sprayed with Talstar P.
I sprayed my Bermuda grass when it was around 92 degrees in the afternoon. My grass is now turning brown, is this normal? Will my grass be okay?
    A
We do advise not spraying Talstar P during the heat of day to avoid scorching your lawn which is what could have happened to your lawn.  When used as directed Talstar should not harm the grass and it should be ok after a while with watering and time as the product is not a systemic that would be absorbed through the plant.

    Q
What are the best products and time schedule to treat arbor vitae trees infected with Bag worms?
    A
We recommend using Talstar P for the treatment of bagworms. You can learn more about how to eliminate bagworms by reading our article Bagworm Control.  Applications should start in April and continue monthly through June for bagworm control. Treatments should start around the time when the larva move out of the mother's bag and before they make their own bags.  Be sure foliage is sprayed thoroughly to the point of runoff to achieve adequate coverage

    Q
My silver maple has sun scald, splitting bark with earwigs, and some borers. Will Talstar P help?
I prefer to buy the most efficient, least expensive product. Thank you!
    A

Sunscald that has caused the bark to split will often heal on its own in otherwise healthy trees. If you experience rapid temperature fluctuations at the end of winter and in early spring, then you may want to wrap trees that are sensitive to this condition to help prevent sunscald. Talstar P is a versatile inseticide concentrate that is safe for use on many ornamentals and is labeled for over 75 pests. Talstar P is also water-based, so it should not cause additional stress to the strees. You may also want to consult an arborist to be sure your trees are receiving enough water to recover from the bark split, and to check if it may need additional nutrients.

    Q
Will storing Talstar P in sunlight or heat ruin the product?
I've had the bottle in the back of my truck for a few weeks, and the last couple time I've used it I'm still seeing spiders afterwards. I've never had a problem before.
    A
We recommend storing Talstar P in a cool dry place away from any direct sunlight or any extreme temperatures. Leaving the bottle in direct sunlight and high tempatures may cause the chemicals to break down and become less effective.

    Q
    Earwig Infestation
I have hundreds of earwigs that crawl on the exterior of my home - foundation and siding all the way to the eaves of my house. We get 5 to 10 inside a day. I need a powerful granule to kill them in the ground and something to prevent them from crawling on the side of the house. I have a .5 acres of land and have done everything I can do to keep the area around my house cleaned up. I have caulked the obvious cracks and put up weather stripping.
    A
First, do you have mulch or pinstraw around your home? If so, pull that off your house.  Talstar P would be a great choice for earwigs. You can spray both indoors and outdoors with this product. Talstar P, one of our best sellers, has a long residual, is odorless, dries clear, leaves no stains, is non-irritating to the skin, and wont break down easily with rainfall. Also, be sure to focus on mulched areas, or areas that hold moisture in the lawn.

    Q
Is Talstar safe to spray around rivers, ponds, and lakes?
    A
Talstar is highly toxic to all aquatic life and should not be used near any bodies of water including rivers, ponds or lakes. We do carry several products like Essentria IC3 that works similar to the Talstar but is a natural product that is completely safe for aquatic life. Please see the product label for full usage insructions depending on what pest you are treating for. On average, the manufacturer recommends using 1-2 oz of Essentria IC3 to every gallon of water.

    Q
How often will I need to spray Talstar P to completely eradicate camel crickets?
I will treat the perimeter of my 1600 sq ft home inside and out using a Flo-Master 1.3 gal. Battery Powered Sprayer. Will I need to do this every year? Or after 2 or 3 treatments in March, June and November. I will not see them for 3-4 yrs, or 5 or 10 yrs?
    A
Talstar P will kill camel crickets. Apply Talstar P as a crack and crevice or spot spray to areas where pests hide, such as baseboards, corners, storage areas, closets, around water pipes, doors and windows, behind and under refrigerators, cabinets, sinks, furnaces, stoves, the underside of shelves, drawers and similar areas. Do not use as a space spray. Pay particular attention to cracks and crevices. We recommend treating the outside perimeter to help stop insect pests from coming indoors to start with. Apply Talstar P to a band of soil and vegetation 6 to 10 feet wide around and adjacent to the structure. Also, treat the foundation of the structure to a height of 2 to 3 feet. Depending on the pest pressure you may have to treat monthly during the times of the season when they are most prevalent. No insecticides will last a full year but a good application could allow you to see a knock down in the population of pests for a few months without needing to reapply. You can also use products like Niban Granule Bait to help kill the camel crickets that may try to enter the home by puffing into wall voids around electrical outlets and near crevices of baseboards, as well as broadcasting it in harborage areas outdoors.

    Q
What metering rate should I set my blower at for Talstar P?
I have a Stihl SR450 blower and can change the metering rate. I have read the directions and i can't find any information.
    A
As long as you are using the Talstar at the proper dilution rate in the tank the metering rate should just be dependent on how quick you are walking during the application. We do not carry Stihl blowers to give you an exact answer, however on our Solo 451 Blower we suggest out of a metering rate of 1-4 to normally put it on 2 for a normal pace during application.

    Q
How much Talstar P should I put in a 50 gal sprayer?
I'v got fleas at my house so I bought a rig for my Big Yard.
    A
When treating your yard for fleas with Talstar P you can use anywhere between 0.5 ounces and 1 oz per gallon of water. So anywhere between 25 and 50 ounces to your 50 gallon sprayer. Keep in mind when treating for fleas, its important to use an IGR (insect birth control) to help stop the reproductive cycle. If you only use a portion of the yard closest to the home you could just mix the IGR with the Talstar and spray them both in those areas that you frequent the most or the pets frequent. We would recommend NyGuard IGR to mix in your tank.

    Q
I have termites in my flower bed ( in the ground). What's the best and safest product to use?
I have termites in my flower bed ( in the ground). They already killed a few of my roses. I thought they eat only dead wood but I have found them around the roots and on the dry part of the rose steam next to the ground. What's the best and safest product to use? I am not worried about the house- it's steal framed and break.
    A
Normally termites to not eat anything that is alive and healthy so while there may be some in the ground around your flower beds, there could be something else actually destroying your plant like root aphids or the like. That being said, you use use a product like Talstar P to soak the ground around the flower beds to eliminate any termites and most other pests in that soil and it will not harm your flowers. Talstar is a concentrate that would be mixed at the rate of 1 oz to 1 gallon of water and poured as a drench on the soil where you have the activity.

    Q
What would work on sand flies?
    A

These insects do not truly infest a home as they do not reproduce in the indoor environment, but they may still be abundant inside if their breeding site is close by. Unfortunately, the breeding sites for these flies are so numerous and varied, it is impossible to eliminate them all. These tiny pests are small enough to crawl through the average window screen and fit through cracks and crevices around windows and door frames.

You can help prevent these flies from entering your home by spraying a barrier application of Talstar P paying special attention to window frames, window screens, door frames, and cracks and crevices that may be used as points of entry.  A screen with a very fine mesh (smaller than 16mesh) will help prevent entry. Additionally it may be helpful to keep ceiling fans and window fans on at high speeds to keep insects out of small areas.

If flies have already entered your home and you need immediate control use Microcare. This product offers a fast knockdown and kill of flying insects, giving you immediate relief.

    Q
Should a fungicide, fertilizer, and insecticide all be mix together one spraying a lawn?
I ask because I work for a company and the owner has us mix all of those together (occasionally) plus a little iron micro mix and a type of conform. I feel like this is not good for the grass with all those together. Is it more effective to just do one at a time although I know that we would be spending a lot of money. Like if a grass has fungus would it be better just to spray nothing but fungicide mixed with water or is it okay to put everything in one?
    A
Most of the time you can apply all of those types of products together and apply them at the same time so long as all the products label of the items you are using allow tank mixing. While it shouldn't harm a yard to do this, and many companies will apply multiple products together, separating the sprays even by a little can be easier on the lawn health. We would suggest using something like a fungicide by itself unless you have insect and disease damage occuring to the lawn at the same time (as in grubs, chinch bugs, etc), otherwise mix those together for applying. Then you can use a fertilizer or herbicide afterwards by a few days or even a week to not overload the lawn with chemicals.
