    Q
How does Talstar P compare to Essentria IC3?
    A
Talstar P is a water based synthetic pyrethroid and Essentria IC3 is a natural product made up of botanical oils. They contain different active ingredients. They are listed for some of the same insects including ants and mosquitoes. They both have the same length of residual after applied. Essentria IC3 can be applied near water areas without harming aquatic life and Talstar P should NOT be applied to those areas. Talstar is offered in a pint, quart, 3/4 gallon and gallon concentrated bottles and diluted at an ounce per gallon of water. Essentria IC3 is available in a quart and gallon size and you will mix 1-10 oz per gallon of water depending on the insect targeted.

  • Asked by Sharlene from South Boston , Va
    06/06/2018
    Q
Can Talstar and Suspend Polyzone be mixed together?
    A

There is no valid reason to mix Suspend Polyzone and Talstar P together. Talstar P is a synthetic pyrethroid and Suspend Polyzone already contains a synthetic pyrethroid, so there would be nothing to gain by mixing these products together. Making a pesticide too strong can actually backfire. Areas that are treated with this overly concentrated spray will be repellent and insects will simply avoid the treated areas, prolonging the infestation.

  • Asked by Allan from Rotonda West, Fl
    01/20/2019
    Q
How do I apply Talstar P for termite control on a block house in Florida?
We need to treat a limited amount of wood in the roof rafters.
    A

Talstar P Professional Insecticide would not be recommended for use if you need to treat wood directly.  It only sits on the surface of wood and would not penetrate.  It used to be used as a perimeter treatment to the soil in a trench around the home until non repellent products like Termidor SC were developed.  For treating wood directly, a better option would be Bora-Care, either sprayed or painted onto the rafters.  We have great guides for treating both subterranean and drywood termites that would be helpful to review as well.

    Q
i have crane flys in my yard how fast will talstar kill them, and when is the best time of year to treat the
is a good time to treat for larva so they don't hatch.
    A

Talstar should be used early to mid season to control the larvae of crane flies. This application should be made between August-February during times when the ground is not frozen. If treatments are made in March-April, they may only provide supression. You can consult with your local cooperative extension office for details on timing of application in your area specifically.

  • Asked by Ron from Livingston, Tx

    Q
What product is best to use in a Spider-B-Gone misting system at my lake house?
I want to control spiders and insects at the top of my exterior walls. I have been switching between Riptide 5.0% ULV and Pyranha 1-10 PX
    A
We are not familiar with that misting system. Talstar is a great product to use in a misting sprayer. Riptide and Pyrahna are still top choices for misting systems.

    Q
Can Talstar damage outdoor furniture or fabrics if chemical is applied to it?
We have patio furniture with polyester fabric, and sometimes towels or clothes are left outside.
    A

Talstar P applications should not be done to where they will contact furniture or fabric/towels.  While it will not harm them it is not labeled to be used on these items.

    Q
I have a huge midge infestation in my yard. What and how would you recommend treating them?
    A

Talstar P (Talstar One) is labeled for a wide variety of small flying insects including gnats, midges and other small biting flies and should help reduce the amount of midges on your property. Be sure to spray the areas where you have noticed the midges landing or resting as Talstar will only eliminate those insects that land on treated areas.  Please refer to the product label for mixing and application instructions

    A

  • Asked by Roz
    05/17/2011
    Q
What if a dog came into contact with Talstar P while it was still wet?
My dog didn't show apparent signs of illness, yet his coat was wet with a manure type odor and when wiped, there was a rust color that came off. The scent is still there a day later.
    A
The smell and color are not from the Talstar P. Talstar P is a water based product that dries clear and is odorless. It seems like your dog did indeed roll in something that was possibly still damp from the Talstar application, but it is the actual item your pet rolled in (perhaps manure or fertilizer of some kind?) that you have noticed on your pet. We think a bath is in order to wash off any Talstar the dog may have on his coat and to get rid of whatever ever else he rolled in.

    Q
Can I use Talstar P as a flea and tick dip for me dogs?
Like to bathe them in it to help with the fleas and ticks that are on them?
    A

No, Talstar P cannot be applied on animals for flea dipping. It is only labeled for outdoor applications for flea control in the lawn. We do carry products that you can apply to your dogs safely for flea control. Please take a few moments to review our treatment article on How to Get Rid of Fleas for more information on flea eradication.

  • Asked by Thaddeus from Virginia Beach, Va
    07/09/2015
    Q
Can Talstar P be applied with a sponge to metal window frames?
I don't want to use a sprayer because I'm afraid the spray will mess up the window glass.
    A

A hand pump sprayer or backpack sprayer would be the preferred method of application for using Talstar P, a sponge would be not recommended.  When treating around doors and windows you will want to spray around the frame of the windows themselves and where the windows slide past each other when opening  You would not need to spray the glass to get an effective treatment but can spray screens if needed.

  • Asked by William from Villages Fl
    09/13/2016
    Q
Do I have to remove thatch prior to Talstar P application for chinch bugs on a St Augustine lawn in FL?
    A

Talstar P are one of the most effective chinch bug treatments on the market. Chinch bugs infest the base of grass plants and are often found in the thatch layer. Chinch bugs can be one of the most difficult pests to control in grasses and the higher applications rates will be required to control populations that contain both nymphs and adults during the summer. It may also be necessary to remove the thatch layer if it exceeds 1 inch in thickness to allow the Talstar to penetrate down to the soil.

If you have a few small spots the St. Augustine runners might fill it in this season (of course water, fertilizer, and lots of sunshine helps). If large portions of the lawn were damaged it will likely be late spring or later of next year before the lawn recovers. Very heavily damaged areas may need to be resodded.

  • Asked by Terri from Erlanger, Kentucky
    05/11/2019
    Q
Mosquitoes, flies, and spiders are the problem in my yard, is there one product I can spray for all 3 pests?
    A

Talstar P Professional Insecticide is a great safe product for general pest control both in and around the home. It dries clear, has no odor, is non-staining and non-irritating and can be used on lawns, bushes, ornamentals, trees and around the foundation of the home, as well as entry points like windows and doors. It will control over 100 different insects, including mosquitoes, flies, and spiders. It will typically last 30-90 days outdoors and at least 90 indoors along baseboards and cracks and crevices. Its safe for children and pets once dry and is very cost effective.

  • Asked by Laura from Hysham
    06/01/2018
    Q
Will Talstar P keep flies off my house?
One side of our house becomes absolutely covered in flies every day during the summer, leaving fly specks all over the siding.
    A

Talstar P can be used to help control cluster flies indoors and outdoors. If the cluster flies have already made their way indoors, they will be harder to control because they usually hide in a wall void or other inaccessible area and are only visible when the house warms up. If the cluster flies are in an attic or drop ceiling or other dark area, a fly light would do a great job controlling the population. Using small fly lights such as the Fly Web in the house would also help to catch the flies. Spray Talstar P directly on baseboards, window frames, door frames, and places where utilities (pipes, wires, cables) enter in to the building and any other crack, crevice or gap where insects can enter.

    Q
Will Talstar P control the longed-horn beetle?
I use Talstar P for the flower garden and it works wonders!
    A

Talstar P is labeled for many beetles but not specifically for the long horned beetle.  However, after doing some research we have found many sites and government studies that list Talstar P as a form of treatment for the long horned beetle.

  • Asked by John from Beggs, Ok.
    04/05/2012
    Q
Will Talstar P work well in a 30gal sprayer? and with granules?
I see where it says to use a 1gal sprayer but will it work as well in larger sprayers? Also is it safe to use the concentrate and the granules at the same time or is that to high a concentration?
    A
You can absolutely use Talstar P in a large 30 gallon sprayer. Just be sure you follow the correct usage rate for that much water. Talstar granules should be applied using a hand spreader or cart spreader and can be used in conjunction with the Talstar P.
