    Q
What kind of storage temperatures do the instructions refer to?
When the instructions say, do not store in extreme temperatures, what kind of temperatures are they referring to? I store my Talstar P in my garage. During the summer, it gets hot in the garage. I would say probably between 95° F - 115° F depending on the time of day. I'm worried that the Talstar P is going to become ineffective because of this. Is this a possibility?
    A
Most insecticide concentrates such as Talstar P must be stored in climate controlled environments. Ideal storage temperatures would be 45-85 degrees.

    Q
I have a 200 gallon tank. How many ounces per gallon of Talstar do I need for spraying ticks?
    A

When using Talstar P for ticks in the lawn, the rate is 0.5 - 1.0 oz. per 1000 sq. ft. in at least 1 gallon of water.  So for 200 gallons, you would use 100-200 oz. Treat the entire area where exposure to ticks may occur. Use higher spray volumes when treating areas with dense ground cover or heavy leaf litter. Ticks may be reintroduced from surrounding areas on host animals. Retreatment may be necessary to achieve and/or maintain control during periods of high pest pressure. Repeat application is necessary only if there are signs of renewed activity. Limit repeat application to no more than once per seven days

    Q
Can I spray Talstar P through a Big John commercial mist machine?
    A

We are not familiar with that misting system. Talstar P is a great product to use in a misting sprayer. Riptide and Pyrahna are still top choices for misting systems.

Is it safe to eat fruit from a tree that's planted next to a house that's sprayed with Talstar P 4Xs/year?
    A
You can eat the fruit as long as the tree is not sprayed and the soil around the tree is not sprayed. Keep Talstar P out of the trees root zone.

    Q
What's the mixing ratio of Talstar P when using a lawn sprayer that's connected to a garden hose?
I know it's 1 oz per gallon in a pump sprayer.
    A

The rate for Talstar P in a hose end sprayer would be the same as if you were using in a pump sprayer, 0.5 to 1 fl oz (1 - 2 tbsp) per gallon of water for low volume applications, or 0.5 -1.0 fl. oz. per 1,000 square feet in a higher volume of water.

    Q
Do you have anything that works on Argentina ants?
    A
We have many products that will work great on Argentine ants. We normally recommend if they are coming inside your home to use our Complete Ant Kit. This provides both a protein(granular) and sugar(gel) bait for the ants to find when foraging that they take back and feed to the colony to eliminate it at the source. Once they are no longer in the home and the colony is all gone, you can use the Talstar as a general barrier and lawn spray to keep any new ones from congregating or coming in the home. If you do not currently have them in your home and just outdoors, you can use the Talstar to keep them from coming in and any area you spray that an ant comes into contact with will kill them. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

    Q
Would Talstar P be effective as a spray above a drop-ceiling for varied carpet beetles?
    A

Since Talstar P is labeled for use indoors as a crack and crevice spray, you could potentially use it to spot treat in a drop ceiling, however this product is not labeled for carpet beetles. We recommend adding an Insect Growth Regulator (IGR) when treating for carpet beetles, such as NyGuard IGR. You could also use a ready-to-use product like NyGuard Plus which has both an insecticide and an IGR in one product. A better choice for use in the drop ceiling may be an insecticide dust, though, since it is a dry product that would not damage the tiles, and a dust lasts much longer than a spray in void spaces like a drop ceiling. Delta Dust can be used in a drop ceiling for carpet beetles and other crawling insect pests there. Or you may consider our Carpet Beetle Control Kit which includes the NyGuard Plus, CimeXa Dust, and glue traps.

Be sure that you have located and removed the source of the infestation as well. We have more tips in our Carpet Beetle Treatment Guide here

    Q
What are the ingredients in Talstar for bed bugs?
    A

The active ingredient in Talstar P is bifenthrin. When treating for bed bugs, a thorough application should be made to crack and crevices where evidence of bed bugs occurs. This includes bed frames, boxsprings, inside empty dressers and clothes closets and carpet edges, high and low wall moldings and wallpaper edges. Do not use this product on bed linens, pillows, mattresses or clothes. Remove all clothes and other articles from dressers or clothes closets before application. Allow all treated areas to thoroughly dry before use. Not recommended for use as sole protection against bedbugs. If evidence of bedbugs is found in/on mattresses, use products approved for this use. The mixing rate of Talstar P is 1 fl oz per gallon of water. Be sure to do treatments every 10-14 days until you do not see activity for 30 days.

Please check out our Bed Bug Guide for tips on how to treat and prevent bed bugs in the future.

    Q
Can I spray Talstar P near water?
I have spiders at my boathouse. How often will I have to respray ?
    A

Talstar P Professional Insecticide should not be used near bodies of water as it is extremely toxic to fish and aquatic life. We suggest Essentria IC3 as it is labeled to be used around water areas such as docks. It can be reapplied every 30 days outdoors for spiders and other listed insects.

    Q
How effective is Talstar P against mosquitoes and how often do I treat?
    A

Talstar works great for mosquito control. The key is to apply it to all shrubs, trees, and other foliage around the house or where you are trying to provide relief.  It should be directed not only on top of the leaves and plants, but on the underside of the leaves as well which is where the mosquitoes hang out during the heat of the day. Talstar should be applied every 30 days for optimum control. When treating for mosquitoes we also recommend the use of an IGR like Tekko Pro. Tekko Pro IGR contains the active ingredient Pyridine that imitates a growth hormone and prevents full develop in immature mosquitoes.

    Q
Can Talstar P be sprayed on my cucumber plants or vegetable garden?
    A

Talstar P cannot be used directly on vegetables or fruits that are going to be consumed. We do carry several products that can be used on cucumbers and other edible vegetation such as Sevin and Hi-Yield Indoor/Outdoor 10%. Always read the product label of the product you select to make sure it is labeled for the plant you want to spray and for the pest you are trying to eliminate. The product labels are available for each product on our site and you can see the links for them on each individual product page.

    Q
How effective is Talstar P against lawn ants and ground bees?
Our lawn is infested with ants boring holes into the red clay soil. The small mounds are then taken over by ground bees for nesting.
    A

Talstar can work great on ants and a variety of insects in the lawn, however the level of control you will see will depend on colony size and activity. You can use the Talstar to drench individual mounds to eliminate them quickly, and the spray the entire yard to help control any new activity that emerges over time. Ground bees are hard to control with sprays as they can often move between the blades of grass and directly into the holes without touching the leaf surface that contains the chemical. While tedious, the best way to eliminate a ground bee nest is to dust it with a product like Delta Dust which will get picked up on their bodies as they move in and out of the hole and get transferred to other bees. Dust in the late evening when they are less active and then give it at least a week or two for you to not see any more activity.

    Q
Which to use first Termidor SC or Talstar P on my newly constructed home and barrier?
I am considering using both Termador SC (because I had such great results with it in the past) as a protective barrier on my home. I also want to do a barrier with Talstar P because of all the other pests (mosquitos, roaches, stink bugs) that it treats. Which should I product use first? Should I wait a period of time before applying the other product? Will the products work adversely or well with each other? Thanks
