Fipronil is a non repellent that has a transfer effect. This means that termites and other insects are not able to detect it and as they go across a treated area, they will pick the product up and can carry it back to spread to others in the colony. Bifenthrin is considered a repellent in that insects can detect it is there and may try to avoid the area, it also will only kill those termites that contact a treated area directly or that are sprayed directly. Also depending on where you are applying it residual can vary with Fipronil lasting up to 10 years or more in the soil when applied in a trench and Bifenthrin only lasting about 5-7 years.
We recommend using a liquid termiticide such as Taurus SC and doing the trench treatment as outlined in the "How To Do A Termite Treatment" article. You will need to trench all around the skirt just like you would around a home's foundation, and then you will need to trench around all of the blocks that are holding the trailer up, just like you would a home's piers in a crawlspace.
Taurus SC - 78 oz. can be used indoors to spot treat active termite galleries inside wall voids where termites are found. It cannot be sprayed as a broadcast over walls.
Taurus SC will kill Drywood termites if injected directly into galleries of damaged wood. For the best control and prevention we recommend applying Boracare to the raw untreated wood. Please review our Drywood Termite treatment Guide.
Taurus SC is not labeled for fleas. Fleas tend to live in moist shady areas out in the yard where pets or other animals spend a lot of time resting. Taurus SC however is only labeled to be used in very limited areas on or immediately next to the house or structure making it mostly ineffective for flea treatments. We recommend you use our Outdoor Flea & Tick Kit to get rid of fleas in and around your home. You should use a topical flea product that is labeled for use on animals such as Petcor if you are trying to also rid your pets of fleas.
If you want to treat the ground prior to the home being built to protect it from termites you would want to use a product like Taurus SC. Taurus is one of the longest lasting termiticides on the market and will protect the home for at least 10 years. For pre slab treatments you will need 1 gallon of finished mixed solution for every 10 sq/ft feet.
Yes, when trenching around a barn with Taurus SC, you would need to remove the horses from the barn for 24 hours.
One of the longest lasting and best adhearing products on the market for subterranean termite control and prevention is Taurus SC. Taurus when used per label instructions will last up to 10 years to protect the home. No matter what termiticide you go with, you will need to wait until the rains have passed and the soil is not saturated when you do the application. You will also need 24-48 hours of no rain and dry weather after application to make sure the product has dried and bonded to the soil along the foundation completely. Once the soil has dried only removing the barrier you created by disturbing and removing the soil will undo it, the heavy rains will not compromise the protection.
