    Q
Does Taurus SC harm honey bees or other good bees so to speak?
I don't want to harm the bees we need for pollination.
    A

Taurus SC Termiticide can harm honey bees and other bees if they contact a treated surface long enough to receive a lethal dose or if sprayed during application.  To avoid this you can apply early in the morning or later in the evening when they are less active and less likely to be in the area.

  • Asked by Ben from Albany, Ga

    Q
Can I use Taurus SC as a broadcast treatment for ants and what would be the recommended rate?
    A

Taurus SC is only labeled to be applied right up against a structure and cannot be broadcast across the lawn.  To treat ants in the lawn, we would recommend using something like the Advance 375A ant bait granules. This type of ant bait granule can be broadcast all over your yard or you can use it on individual mounds and it is labeled for most ants. Using ant bait is beneficial because (unlike sprays that only kill the ants you see), ants consume the bait and carry it back to the nest, feeding it to all the other ants including the queen, getting rid of the entire colony.

    Q
Will Taurus SC kill mole crickets?
Mole crickets around the house will this product kill them? Will it kill my St Augustine lawn if I use it?
    A

Taurus SC is not labeled for mole crickets.  You cannot use Taurus SC out in the lawn as this type of treatment is prohibited by the Taurus product label. Taurus can only be used on or within one foot of a structure.  We have a great Treatment Guide for Mole Crickets here.

  • Asked by Denver from Morganton, Nc
    01/27/2018
    Q
How many ounces of Taurus SC termiticide does it take to treat a 20 foot by 30 foot pad?
    A

If you are doing a pre-slab soil treatment, you would use 1 gallon of finished solution per 10 sq ft. So for a 20 x 30 area which is 600 sq ft, you would need 60 gallons of finished solution, or 48 ounces of Taurus SC. Each 20 oz bottle of Taurus will do 25 gallons of finished solution. You could purchase one 78 oz bottle which will do close to 100 gallons of solution. If you are trenching around an already existing slab, that would come out to roughly 100 lineal feet of 6 in x 6 in trench; each 20 oz bottle does 60 lineal feet.

    Q
Can I use Taurus SC in my solo backpack sprayer?
    A

Taurus can only be applied with the backpack sprayer as long as its not going to cause the treatment barrier to be wider than the legal allowed range which is 1 foot up the side of the home and 1 foot out on the ground and around window and door frames or entry points for insects. If it will apply it in a wider range than this you would need to use a smaller hand held sprayer for the application.

    Q
    Replacement for Diazinon
I just finished a 25 year old container of Diazinon. Just shows how much of an outdoor ant problem I have had. I went unsuccessfully looking for a new can and learned, from your site, that it has been banned. When I found ants congregating outdoors I would sprinkle some granuals, they would be taken to the queen, and, voila, ants gone. I see now liquid sprays and granuals that only last 3 months. I thought if the queen dies the rest die. What is this retreat every 3 months about? I only need a container about the size of a Pringles canister, something inexpensive that works but I would (relatively) quickly use up and replace as needed, not of a size that I would be tripping over for the next two and a half decades. What do you suggest
    A

Residential uses of diazinon were outlawed in the U.S. in 2004. We were able to find product labels by searching for "diazinon 4E specimen label", but we would still recommend contacting the manufacturer for advice on product  usage and safety. We have several products for general pest control that are readily available and are safe to use around humans and pets. We do offer a granular bait that is labeled to eradicate ants called Maxforce Complete Granules. You can apply a liquid spray application with Taurus SC up against the structure (1ft and 1ft out) around the foundation a couple of times per year for a non-repellent barrier for ants. This transfers to other ants also. The Maxforce Complete Granules will be shared also. Please take a few moments to review our treatment article on How to Get Rid of Ants for a successful eradication program.

    Q
How often should Taurus SC be sprayed?
    A

Taurus SC can be applied at 0.8 fl oz per gallon twice a year (1 ft up and 1 ft out) directly around the structures (except in CA). More than two applications of Taurus SC per calendar year can be made only if applied according to one of the following frequency and dilution rate application scenarios. DO NOT exceed the specified number of applications per calendar year.

The use directions include up to four (4) applications per year at the 0.03% dilution rate for outside surfaces and along the foundation perimeter of listed structures.

    0.03% 4 times/calendar year OR

    0.06% 2 times/calendar year OR

    0.03% 2 times/calendar year and 0.06% 1 time/calendar year

  • Asked by Jan from Alvarado

    Q
Does Taurus SC work for mosquitoes?
    A

Taurus SC Termiticide is not labeled for mosquitoes and cannot be used out on the yard or on ornamental plants where you will need to treat for mosquito control. We would recommend to use Talstar P instead. For heavy mosquito control, you can add Tekko IGR and ExciteR Insecticide to your solution, to stump their life cycle and get a quick knockdown on active mosquitoes. We recommend reading over our Mosquito Treatment Guide for further tips and information.

    Q
I live about 10 feet from a pond. Is it safe for me to use Taurus SC on my house?
    A

Taurus SC Termiticide should only be applied around the outside perimeter of a strurcture, 1 foot up and 1 foot out. You do not want to apply anywhere where it could run off into lake. It is toxic to aquatic life. Be sure that the application is at least 15 feet from lake.

  • Asked by Tony from Harvey, La

    Q
How do I apply Taurus SC Termiticide to a home that's on concrete blocks?
    A

We recommend that you trench and drill around the structure when applying Taurus SC Termiticide . Please refer to our Termite Treatment Article/Video for more detailed application instructions. It is very important to trench each side of the hollow blocks, even more important than drilling into each block to inject the Taurus SC Termiticide  solution. The problem is that the termites will be still be able to build tubes on the outer areas of the blocks and still access your home. Your treatments will be far more successful if you trench and treat on either side of the hollow block. Bora-Care can be applied 90 days after the Taurus SC Termiticide  application for treatment of the raw wood.

    Q
Can you still power wash outside of home etc after trenching home with Taurus?
After trenching home with Taurus, will washing/powering washing home with a multi purpose cleaner affect the Taurus treatment. Of course this wil not be performed right after treating but weeks or months later?
    A

As long as the Taurus SC Termiticide as had time to dry and bind to the soil it should not be affected by power washing the home.  Avoid spraying or displacing the treated soil.

  • Asked by Shannon from San Antonio, Texas
    12/16/2018
    Q
Is treating the soil with Taurus SC before new home construction as effective as making the trench around the perimeter of the home?
    A

Yes, treating the soil before the slab is poured is going to protect your home for 10 years. Doing a pre-construction treatment ensures that termites will not make their way up through settling gaps, cracks, or spaces in the foundation. It is recommended that even with doing a pre-construction application of Taurus SC Termiticide that a 6 x 6 trench is still done around the perimeter of the foundation.

    Q
Is it safe to handle soil and surrounding areas after spraying for carpenter ants with Taurus SC?
I just applied with a sprayer, two feet up the foundation and two feet out on the soil for carpenter ants. After the product dries are there any precautions I should take when doing yard work in the area sprayed - like raking leaves or turning mulch, etc...
    A

Taurus SC Termiticide should only be sprayed 1 foot up the side of the house and 1 foot out into the soil around the perimeter foundation of your home for ant control.  Once the product has dried completely, it is safe for you to return to those treated areas and it is safe to resume normal yard work/activity.

  • Asked by Erik from Phenix City, Al
    06/08/2019
    Q
How to use Taurus SC Termiticide for drywood termites?
    In attic
    A

Taurus SC Termiticide can be used for treating drywood termites in an attic. You would have to treat the infestation directly by drilling into the infested wood and spraying into the gallery. It does not penetrate into the wood so it would not reach the termites that are in the wood unless done this way. We suggest using Bora-Care since it is the #1 treatment on the market for dry wood termites.  You would typically just spray it on the surface of the wood and the Bora-Care will penetrate through the wood and kill the termites inside.  Also, since Bora-Care is a wood treatment product, it will stay in the wood forever and protect it forever.
