    Q
Does Termidor SC kill black widows, brown recluse, tarantulas, and scorpions besides ants and termites?
I have a lot of black widow spiders, scorpions, and tarantulas around the house in addition to ants. I'd like to know if I can use Termidor SC to kill them keep them away from the house since I will be buying for ants/termite protection.
    A
Termidor Sc is labeled for black widow and brown recluse spiders but it is not labeled for scorpions or for tarantulas. Termidor SC does not have an immediate knockdown but instead uses a delayed reaction kill which makes it especially effective for social insects like ants, termites and certain species of wasps. You should note that we are not aware of any product that is labeled for tarantulas.

    Q
My house is on a concrete slab and is about 12 yrs. old. We have been in the house about 8 yrs. and have been
using the Spectricide termite stakes around the house. I worry about cracks in the slab under the carpet, wood flooring. Am I safe using these stakes?
    A
The stakes are safe to use, but they are not a professional solution and are not strong enough to adequately protect your home.

You should perform a liquid termite treatment in the ground to get the termites where they are entering your house.  To perform a treatment just as a professional company would do, please read our How To Do A Termite Treatment Article which explains exactly how you should treat your home properly.  Doing a treatment like what is described in the article will not only take care of existing termites that you have, but it will also protect and prevent future termites from entering for about 7 years.

    Q
Can Termidor be used inside a upper flat to control silver fish, and centipedes?
She has no pets, and she has access to the attic if need be, she also has half the basement with no access to the other half. Her half is empty. Should the lower tents be warned if she does use Termidor.
    A
Termidor Sc is not labeled for any type of indoor use other than applying to wall voids. Our most popular general use product is called Talstar.  It is widely used by pest control companies because it is labeled for almost every insect you could have a problem with and you can use it outside the home as well as inside, it is odorless and very safe for use around children and pets.  It is a liquid concentrate that you mix with water in a one gallon hand pump sprayer and it can be applied in cracks and crevices indoors where these insects harbor.

    Q
I'm remodeling & have bare floors, do I drill every 10-12" inside or drill & trench outside
Yes I said the R word... I have the entire house gutted and lucky me, I find old termite activity so I replaced a lot of wood. During the demo I discovered only 2 live termites but that's 2 to many. I called my bug guy & he tells me he would drill every 12"s on the interior slab & then juice it with Termidor. After he told me how much & after I picked myself up off the floor & after I threw him out (kidding) I decided to look for an alternative. Now that I am in this forum I am learning about trenching for the first time... So my question is... Is it better to drill lots of holes in the slab or trench & rod? With my big hammer drill I can punch holes pretty darn quick but from my rough measurements it adds up to over 400 Holy moly's ... Even at the ridiculous rate of 1 hole a minute, (that's Superman speed) I would be at it a while. All that said... Is drilling the slab the preferred method over trenching in my situation? According to my figures 4 gallons over 10' = about 50 ounces per hole... Gosh... I get to have all the fun... Help!
    A
No, you do not have to drill all of those holes.  You should not ever have to drill the interior of a slab unless you know there is termite activity coming through a crack in the slab.  You should follow the instructions in our How To Do A Termite Treatment article which explains exactly what to do, mainly placing a protective perimeter around the outside by trenching.

    Q
I have "Crazy Raspberry" Ants. They are tearing up my wiring in my well and septic.
They are able to out-compete fire ants because they reproduce faster. The ants are not attracted to ordinary ant baits, are not controlled by over-the-counter pesticides, and are harder to fully exterminate because their colonies have multiple queens. (Taken from Wikipedia) I have read that the only type of pesticide which will kill them is fipronil. Does your MaxForce product have this pesticide in it? I didn't see it listed on the product sheet
    A
I believe the Fipronil product they were referring to was Termidor SC. Termidor SC used outdoors and Phantom used indoors have been the most effective products to control crazy Raspberry Ants. Ant baits (including the maxforce product that contains fipronil) and synthetic pyrethroid insecticides do not seem to do an effective job controlling this ant species. Texas A&M University has done extensive research regarding these ants and you can find detailed articles on their extension website.

    Q
Is 6 inches deep enough when trenching? How come drilled holes have to be deeper?
I am getting more confident in being able to tackle trenching and drilling for Termidor. I noticed that the guide states when you are drilling around the foundation, the deeper you go, the better. How come this is not the case for trenching? Do sub-termites not live deeper than 6 inches into the soil? And what is the recommended method in pouring Termidor down the drilled foundation, should you use a funnel?
    A
The trench should be 6" x 6" as stated in the product label as the large volume of dilution will go deeper than the 6" (the termites usually come closer to the surface to forage as that is where the wood will come into contact with the soil). The drilled holes should be deeper because you are trying to pump in such a large volume of diluted product into a tiny space and the deeper the thin hole the easier it will be for the product to disperse into the soil.

    Q
Approximately 1700 square foot home, how much termidor?
Most of the the home is surrounded by cement and brick. The front lawn and backyard does touch the walls so we will trench that area. How much termidor for treating the perimeter of a 1700 square foot home? Also, do you recommend a "dam" method while trenching; sectioning off portions while waiting for Termidor to make its way into the soil?
    A
How much termidor you need is dependant on the lineal feet around the house, not the square footage.  Each 20 oz. bottle of Termidor will treat 60 lineal feet.  So every 60 feet around your home you will need one bottle of Termidor.  Most homes need 3 to 4 bottles.  Please follow the instructions in our How To Do A Termite Treatment article.

    Q
I have 14 X 20 foot shed. It is 8 inches off the ground. What is the best way to treat for termitestermites.
How should I apply the treatment for termites. They were in some scrap wood stored under the shed. I have removed the wood.
    A

You should perform a liquid termite treatment in the ground to get the termites where they are entering the shed. Even though the article talks about a home, the shed is no different.  You should dig a trench around the structure as described in the article below, as well as try to trench around individual supports under the shed if possible, if any exist.

How do I use this product as a foam for a void?
    A
In order to use Termidor SC as a foam you will need to purchase and use a foaming device such as the Chapin Poly foamer and you will need to add a foaming agent such as the Profoam Foaming Concentrate to the diluted Termidor mixture.

    Q
How often to perimeter spray for ants?
Hello there are two "answers" back to back in your Q&A with conflicting information. One answer to Nadeem says to treat the perimeter every 3-4 months. Another answer to Don says every 6 months. The reason I ask is normally I only spray twice a year but it's only been 3 months since I last sprayed and with the recent rains I have a lot of ants in my house right now.
    A
According to the product label you are only allowed to use Termidor SC once very 6 months for ant control (the only exception to this is for folks dealing with the Raspberry crazy ant of Texas and only in certain counties Texas. Those folks have received an exemption). You can alternate between products if needed. You can use Termidor SC and then alternate it with Phantom which works very much like the Termidor. By using this method you are staying within the label limits.

    Q
How much Termidor SC to spray inside walls?
For doing spot treatments do you have a recommendation for the concentration and volume of Termidor to spray into each 8 foot tall 16" on center stud wall cavity?
    A
There is no specific amount, but when treating wall voids, you should apply the same concentration as you would anywhere else, which is a .06% solution. This is .8 ounces of Termidor per gallon of water.  As far as the amount and method, termites will be entering the structure from underground near the floor.  Since we know this, it is wasteful to drill a hole near the middle of the wall void.  This will just wet your sheet rock and potentially cause damage.  Since we know the termites are entering from the bottom of the void, where the studs and sill plate are, you should drill holes about every 6 inches directly above the baseboard so when you apply Termidor in the void, it is going directly on the wood where the termites are, and not being soaked up by sheet rock or insulation.  Typically you should hold down your sprayer trigger for about 7 to 10 seconds per hole and that should be sufficient.

    Q
Do you have to treat the interior of the garage if there is no activity of subterranean termites in it?
This is in regards to a full treatment at a home structure
    A
You can do that if you choose, but it is not as effective as drilling the slab inside the garage.  This is because the garage is a separately poured slab, meaning the termites could come from deep underground and come up to the surface under the garage slab, and enter the wall where your door is going into the house untouched.  You don't have to drill every wall in the garage, just the walls that are not exterior walls, where you have living space on the other side of the garage wall.  So it is a personal choice, but drilling the garage walls is the best way to protect all entry points.

    Application
I don't know why I did this but instead of dinging the trench up against the foundation, I dug 6" away from it. What are your thoughts? Do i need to re-apply? The one good thing that may make this mistake ok is that the soil here in Florida is basically beach sand.
    A
We hate to be the bearers of bad news but we definitely think you should retreat. With the subterranean termites natural feeding instincts they likely will not surface until they get right up next to the food source, which in this case is your home, which means at this point your home is largely unprotected. Sorry!

You will need to trench all around the skirt just like you would a homes foundation and then you will need to trench around all of the blocks that are holding the trailer up just like you would a homes piers in a crawlspace. You are on the right track!

  • Asked by Jeff from Indianapolis, In
    03/07/2013
    Q
Are there alternatives to Termidor since you can't ship to my state?
It says that Termidor SC is not allowed to be shipped to Indiana. Can you recommend something just as good that can be shipped to Indiana? I was told that it's an excellent barrier for ants around the home, which I have a problem with. I've also been told that licensed exterminators can use it in Indiana but it's not available for home consumers and I really don't want to pay the high cost they charge and just do it myself. Any suggestions are appreciated.
    A
Taurus SC is basically the same product as Termidor SC it's just made by a different manufacturer. The Taurus SC manufacturer has registered their product for sale in Indiana. Both products contain the same active ingredient and both have pretty much the same instruction label for ant control.

  • Asked by Clive from Encino Ca

    Q
How do I inject termidor SC into holes and can it be done with the undiluted material?
and can i purchase a small amount... Dry wood termites in painted 4x4 beams with small hole showing the dust and residues coming out
    A
Termidor SC must be diluted according to the product instructions. The smallest container it comes in is the 20 oz bottle. In order to inject the liquid into the beams you will need to drill holes every couple of inches and use a sprayer with a pinpoint stream or a straw attachment to get the application into the holes. Another option would be to use Termidor Foam which comes in a ready to use can with the small attachments to get the foam into the drilled holes.
