When treating a block foundation with Termidor SC, you should drill a hole in each void so there would be 2 holes per block. The holes should be no more than 18 inches high. Usually, you want to drill on the second row of blocks high from the ground. In addition to drilling the holes, you should also trench and treat the outside foundation wall and the inside foundation wall if you have a crawl space. After drilling the holes, you are supposed to apply 2 gallons of solution per 10 lineal feet into the blocks. If the equipment has been tripled rinsed and the nozzle and wand have been rinsed out, you can use them in the same sprayer just not at the same time. Termidor SC is a non-repellent insecticide. This means the insects cannot tell that it is there and they will readily walk over treated areas. Termidor SC also has a delayed reaction time and a transfer effect which allows them time to get back to the colony and spread it around before they succumb to the effects of the product. Talstar P on the other hand is synthetic pyrethroid which many sensitive insects such as ants can detect. Insects may avoid the areas treated with Talstar and those that do cross over treated areas are the only ones that will be killed by the product. Talstar P does not have a transfer effect so it will not be transferred back to the colony. While the Termidor SC will not actually be deactivated by Talstar P, it will be much less effective if it is over-sprayed with Talstar P. You can spray Talstar P on your trees, bushes and lawn for mosquito control as long as you are not actually overlapping the areas where Termidor SC was applied.
Termidor SC can ONLY be applied to outside perimeter of structures. You could use the Intice Border Patrol system to lure the ants out of the garden and to the bait.
Your treatment should not be done within 24 to 48 hours of any rainfall for the best results. Your trench should be 6'' wide, 6'' deep and 10 linear feet along the structure with the Termidor. You should wear chemical resistant gloves, long sleeve shirt, long pants and close toed shoes when applying Termidor. If you are applying the product in a non-ventilated area, a respirator is will be needed. Termidor is a safe product for most folks to use. We do encourage our customers to read the product label and the MSDS before they purchase a product to be sure they will be comfortable using it.
Termidor SC is not known to leech through the soil. You will need to follow the Termidor SC product label which has specific instructions for treating near a well to avoid any contamination issues:
TREATMENT AROUND WELLS OR CISTERNS: Do not contaminate wells or cisterns.
Structures With Wells/Cisterns Inside Foundations: Structures that contain wells or cisterns within the foundation of a structure can only be treated using the following techniques:
1. Do not apply within 5 feet of any well or cistern by rodding and/or trenching or by the backfill method. Treat soil between 5 and 10 feet from the well or cistern by the backfill method only. Treatment of soil adjacent to water pipes within 3 feet of grade should only be done by the backfill method.
a) Trench and remove soil to be treated onto heavy plastic sheeting or similar material or into a wheelbarrow.
b) Treat the soil at the rate of 4 gallons of solution per 10 linear feet per foot of depth of the trench, or 1 gallon per 1.0 cubic feet of soil. Mix thoroughly into the soil taking care to contain the liquid and prevent runoff or spillage.
c) After the treated soil has absorbed the solution, replace the soil into the trench.
Structures With Adjacent Wells/Cisterns and/or Other Water Bodies: Applicators must inspect all structures with nearby water sources such as wells, cisterns, surface ponds, streams, and other bodies of water and evaluate, at a minimum, the treatment recommendations listed below prior to making an application.
1. Prior to treatment, if feasible, expose the water pipes) coming from the well to the structure, if the pipes) enter the structure within 3 feet of grade.
2. Prior to treatment applicators are advised to take precautions to limit the risk of applying the termiticide into subsurface drains that could empty into any bodies of water. These precautions include evaluating whether application of the termiticide to the top of the footer may result in contamination of the subsurface drain. Factors such as depth to the drain system and soil type and degree of compaction should be taken into account in determining the depth of treatment.
3. When appropriate (i.e., on the water side of the structure), the treated backfill technique (described above) can also be used to minimize off-site movement of termiticide.
Termidor SC works as a perimeter treatment around the foundation only; it is not labeled for use indoors. You could use Termidor SC around the foundation and then use Talstar P for indoors, cracks and crevices, and eaves outside where the wasps may be. Be sure to make your application during the cooler times of the day when the wasps are less active.
Termidor SC cannot be used to treat fire ants or their mounds. We recommend that you treat the individual mounds (as well as a broadcast) with Extinguish Plus Fire Ant Bait. It will take approximately 1.5-2 lbs per acre and 2-5 TBSP per mound. Please see our Fire Ant Pest Guide for more information and tips about treating for this pest.
It is not necessary to make a re-application of Termidor SC if it was treated 48 hours prior to rainfall and had a chance to completely dry.
If you pressure wash over the areas where you have applied the Termidor, you will remove all of the product from the exterior and by extension stop from the product from being effective. You should only pressure wash the exterior if you have experienced complete results from using Termidor and do not need the product in place any longer.
Termites do not attack live, healthy trees. If the tree has been damaged by termites it would be advisable to remove the tree and perform a liquid termite soil treatment with Termidor SC to ensure subterranean termites to not find a food source inside of your home. Please take a few minutes to read our article How to Perform a Termite Treatment which will explain how to do the treatment in laymens terms and also explain any needed equipment. Most folks find that they only need a 5 gallon bucket and perhaps a drill in some situations. You should follow the Termidor product label and you should mix Termidor with water as specified. No special equipment is needed to diltute Termidor because it is a water based product and readily mixes with water.
Termidor SC is not labeled to eradicate house flies as it should be applied in the soil for a termite treatment and only on the exterior surface (1ft up and 1 ft out) directly up against the foundation for insects that crawl on top of the soil. Termidor SC should not be applied to flowers or shrubs. It is only applied in the soil up against the foundation of the structure for termite control (in a trench, rodded, drilled holes in concrete) or ant control topically (1 ft up and 1 ft out).
Yes! You can use Advance Bait stations and Termidor combined. The stations will help monitor and the Termidor will be a barrier. Both products will work together not against each other. Please see our article Sentricon vs Termidor for more information about these two types of treatments.
Termidor SC is the # 1 choice for ant control around the outside of your home. Termidor is a non-repellent insecticide that also has a transfer effect. That means that ants cannot tell that the Termidor is there and will walk right over it and then pick the product up on their bodies and inadvertently carry it back to the colony, then through normal social interaction the ants spread the Termidor and wipe out the colony. Termidor only needs to be applied two times per year and is effective for a wide variety of insects including ants, centipedes, roaches, spiders, silverfish, wasps and many other nuisance insects.
Termidor SC should only be applied to the exterior (1ft up and 1 ft out) directly up against the structure only. You will mix 0.8 fl oz per gallon of water and apply once every 6 months. For more information on treating ants, please check out our treatment article.
Yes, as long as Termidor SC is not restricted in your state and you use it only for your property, you can use it.
When apply Termidor SC as a perimeter spray, apply at a rate of 1.5 gallons of solution per 1,000 square feet, using 0.8 ounces of concentrate per gallon of water. You should spray to evenly cover with a low-pressure coarse spray, so you do not need to drench the areas you are treating. Termidor SC should be used in a pressurized sprayer, not in any type of fogging or misting machine. For general perimeter treatments with Termidor SC, see the last two pages of the product label.
Termidor SC may be used outdoors only for spider control, per the product label. We do have a great Spider Control Kit that includes CB-80 Aerosol Insecticide for contact spraying, and Temprid SC, which can be applied indoors as a crack and crevice or spot treatment. This kit also contains glue boards, which are excellent tools for monitoring and for catching stray spiders indoors.
