    Q
How much Acclaim Extra Selective herbicide do I need to use to make one gallon of finished solution?
    A
According to page 4 of the Acclaim Extra Selective Herbicide product label "Hand-Held Sprayer Application for Spot Treatments: For hand-held pump-type sprayers, add 0.30 to 0.46 fluid ounce of Acclaim Extra Herbicide per gallon of water. Apply 0.30 fluid ounce per gallon of water when the grass weed is in the 1- to 4-leaf stage of growth. Apply 0.46 fluid ounce per gallon of water when the grass weed has 1 to 2 tillers. Spray target weeds thoroughly to the point of spray deposit runoff. Optimum results occur when spray coverage is thorough. The addition of a surfactant will improve coverage. A dye or colorant may be added to avoid spray pattern overlap." Q
Does Acclaim kill Bermuda grass without killing the Fescue around it? What is the spread rate?
    A
Acclaim Extra Herbicide will suppress the growth of common Bermudagrass and rhizome Johnsongrass. Apply Acclaim Extra Herbicide at 20 fluid ounces per acre (0.46 fluid ounce/1000 sq. ft.) as soon as common Bermudagrass or rhizome Johnsongrass begins growth. Repeat applications of Acclaim Extra every 28 to 35 days to continue growth suppression of these species. Do not apply more than a total of 120 fluid ounces per acre (2.75 fluid ounces/1000 sq.ft.) per growing season

  • Asked by Jay from Riverhead, Ny

    Q
Should I apply Acclaim Extra Selective Herbicide for crabgrass when the lawn is wet or dry?
Going to spot spray the lawn with a backpack sprayer for crabgrass using .04 oz per gallon for the back pack sprayer, does the lawn have to be wet or dry when I spray the lawn is the question? Location is Long Island, NY
    A

The grass should not be drenched or heavily wet before an application of Acclaim Extra Selective Herbicide to help the product contact the leave surface.  You should use a surfactant like the Non Ionic Surfactant for Herbicides with Acclaim to aid in penetration as directed on the product label.

  • Asked by Dan from Nj
    09/10/2017
    Q
What is Acclaim Herbicide and surfactant rainfastness?
I sprayed acclaim (for stilt and crab grass) with this surfactant and we got a rogue rain storm between 45 and 1 hour after spraying the lawn. It had been sunny and hot just prior to the rain I expect the spray dried. Do I need to respray? Will respraying damage the lawn grasses I don't want to kill?
    A

Per the product label for Acclaim Extra Herbicide, rainfall or irrigation within one hour of application may cause a reduction in grass control. Allow spray deposit to dry before irrigation. If stunting or injury occurred with the previous application, avoid applying until turfgrass recovery is complete (unless temporary stunting can be tolerated). You should wait at least 14 days before a reapplication with Acclaim Herbicide. Do not reapply Acclaim Extra to previously treated seedling Kentucky bluegrass for at least two months.

  • Asked by Brad
    07/21/2014
    Q
How many OZ. per gallon should I mix using a 60 gallon tank sprayer with 10 gallon nozzles. Spraying crab gras
    A

For broadcast applications you will use between 3.5 and 20 ounces of Acclaim Extra per acre in 40-80 gallons of water for sufficient coverage. You must refer directly to the product label for specifics as it varies for turf type for max usage rates without harming the lawn.

The first thing you need to know when using an herbicide such as Acclaim and many others, is that the exact amount of water you dilute it with is not important. It is only important to make sure you are using the correct amount of product per 1,000 sq ft of lawn. Use too much and you risk damaging your lawn, use too little and you will not get adequate results. To decide how much water you want to use, you should mark a 1,000 sq ft area, fill your sprayer with water ONLY, and start walking and spraying just as if you were doing the actual application of herbicide. When you are done walking and spraying the 1,000 sq ft area note how much water it took you to spray that area, and that is the amount you will want to mix the product with for each 1,000 sq ft area that needs to be treated.

Ex: If you use Acclaim at 15 ounces per acre, that comes down to 0.34 ounces of the product per 1000 sq/ft in however many gallons of water it takes you to cover that area.

What is the shelf life of Acclaim?
I have a container that's about 3 years old and has never been opened and I have one that was opened. Are they still good?
    A

Acclaim Extra Selective Herbicide has a shelf life of about 3-5 years if kept out of extreme temperatures (above 90 and below freezing) and direct sunlight.  If the product has separated and you are not able to get it back into suspension after shaking, then it would be recommended to replace it with new stock.

Will Acclaim kill Bermuda grass in zeon Zoysia grass?
    A
Acclaim Extra Herbicide will suppress the growth of common Bermudagrass.  We want to be clear that bermuda can be suppressed, but it is VERY difficult to kill completely.  It will take multiple treatments to finally kill it.  Please refer to the product label for complete instructions.

  • Asked by Andy from Maryland
    08/24/2018
    Q
How long should I wait to mow after Acclaim application?
    A

According to the Acclaim Extra Selective Herbicide  product label do not mow treated areas for at least 24 hours to allow time for penetration and translocation into the grass weeds. The effectiveness of Acclaim Extra Herbicide is reduced when grass clippings interfere with thorough spray coverage of the target weeds.
