    Q
Does Acclaim Extra actually kill Johnsongrass or just suppress it?
I want to kill Johnsongrass in a fescue hay field without harming the fescue. Do you have a better suited product for this purpose?
    A

Acclaim Extra Selective Herbicide will supress johnsongrass. Pastora Herbicide can be used in Tall Fescue pastures and for johnsongrass. Check with your state extension or Department of Agriculture before use, to be certain Pastora is registered in your state.

Acclaim Extra Selective Herbicide is not labeled to be applied in pastures.  Depending on what you are treating, for Martins Clear pasture would be a great option.

    Q
How soon after using Drive XLR8 can I use Acclaim Extra?
I have jamur zoysia that was sprigged a little over 6 weeks ago and I have recently used drive to hit the crab grass. I am starting to see a good bit of goosegrass and was wondering how soon I can apply acclaim and if I should aim for the 28 oz/acre limit or aim lower since the grass is recently sprigged. The goose grass is in the 2 to 4 tiller range.
    A

Acclaim Extra Herbicide may be applied to newly plugged zoysiagrass, per the product label. Broadleaf herbicides such as 2,4-D or MCPP may reduce the effectiveness of Acclaim Extra Herbicide. Do not apply Acclaim Extra within 21 days following a 2,4-D or MCPP application, or 5 days before a 2,4-D or MCPP application. There are no restrictions for use with other grass killers such as Drive XLR8, however, we would recommend testing a small area before treating the whole yard if you are using these two products at the same time or within a few days of one another to be sure there is not extra sensitivity in your desired turfgrass.

Acclaim will be most successful on goosegrass when it is newly emerged in the 1 to 2 leaf stages. You can retreat at 14-21 day intervals through the growing season without exceeding 10 applications per growing season.

    Q
What is the best pre-emergent for crabgrass control? I also need to control stilt grass.
    A

There is no pre-emergent actually labeled for Japanese so we are not able to make a recommendation. We would suggest a selective post-emergent such as Acclaim instead. Acclaim Extra is a selective post-emergence herbicide that controls annual and perennial grasses in turf including Japanese Stiltgrass.

For crabgrass the best pre-emergent in the spring would be anything with Dithiopyr as long as the area will not be used for grazing or hay.  Pendulum is a great fall application.

    Q
Can I spray Acclaim after planting grass seed?
I have goose grass. I planted grass seed but should have sprayed first. Can I spray after planting and if I have to spray twice to kill, how long between sprayings.
    A

You should not apply Acclaim Extra Herbicide until 4 weeks have passed since seeding or until the new turf has been mowed at least twice. Repeat applications of Acclaim Extra Herbicide every 28 to 35 days (never sooner than 14 days) to continue growth suppression of these species

    Q
Will Acclaim Extra Selective Herbicide kill Timothy hay?
I recently built a house on farm land that had Timothy hay growing on it. We just had the landscaping done and the ground seeded on July 8th, 2020, and the hay is popping up all throughout the lawn as my grass is trying to grow in. Will this kill the hay without killing my grass. I live in Central Pennsylvania. Thank you.
    A
    Acclaim Extra Selective Herbicide

is not labeled to control timothy grass. Unfortunately, we are not aware of any product that is labeled to kill timothy grass among other desirable turfgrasses. You can carefully spot treat the timothy grass with a non-selective herbicide such as Killzalland then overseed any bare spots as needed.
