Syngenta, the manufacturer of Advion moved away from REL dates on their baits and they now come with a Lot # that corresponds to the production of that product. The first 3 letters will usually be "ABW" which can be ignored as this corresponds to the facility the batch was produced in. The next number is for the last digit of the year it was produced. For 2021 this would be ABW1. To indicate the month, the letter after the year in the code would be in alphabetical order if January = A, February = B. So a Lot of ABW1B would be produced in February of 20201. The dates of Advion Ant Bait Gel will be located on the tubes themselves.
The shelf life of bait gels is 2-3 years when stored in a cool dry temperature control environment and not exposed to extreme heat or freezing temps.
Ants generally look for either a sugar or a protein food source. Advion Ant Bait Gel is a sugar. We always recommend using something like Advance 375A Select Granular Bait in conjunction with the sugar bait. This will take care of both of their food sources. Please check out our Ant Guide as well for tips on how to prevent and treat for ants. Bait aversion is more common than bait resistance.
The Advion Ant Bait Gel contains Indoxacarb, which is an oxadiazine pesticide originally manufactured and patented by DuPont.
Please read over this article on the studies of Indoxacarb and the Mechanism of Toxicity.
In insects, indoxacarb is absorbed via ingestion with lesser amounts absorbed across the insect cuticle, and it is bioactivated by the cleaving of a carbomethoxy group from the parent compound. The active metabolite binds to and blocks voltage-dependent sodium channels within the insect nervous system, resulting in paralysis and death of the insect.
Gel baits such as Advion Ant Bait Gel contains an insecticide along with a sugar based food attractant that appeals to foraging worker ants that are looking for sweet food sources.
Foraging ants are in search of a sweet or protien food source depending on the needs of the colony therefore it is recommeneded when baiting for ants to offer both a sweet bait (gel) and a protein (granule) ant bait in the bait plate stations.
Please view our Ant Treatment Guide and Indoor Ant Baiting Kit for more information.
Advion Ant Bait Gel should be stored in a cool, dry place. If frozen, it could loose its original effectiveness.
Advion Ant Bait Gel is a great bait for crazy ants and a variety of other species. Due to their high colony numbers and nature of the crazy ant species, you cannot expect to see a difference in that population in a week or even several weeks.
Crazy ants move in very high numbers and can be difficult to control and many customers find they have to contend with them each year due to how invasive that species is and can be. If they are taking to the bait that is a fantastic sign as they often do not take baits at all but rather find or create their own to sustain the colony. As long as the ants are readily going to and taking the bait, you want to keep a steady supply of it in the bait stations you are using outside to control them.
Continue to refill as needed and the ant colony will drop in number, it just likely will take several weeks to see a significant difference.
While a bait gel such as the Advion could be used for ants and roaches, you may find better success with an application of Shockwave Aerosol to the cracks and crevices of the boat where you've seen activity. Shockwave contains contact kill and residual ingredients, as well as an IGR to stop the reproductive cycle of the insects so they don't continue to grow in number. You can use the crack and crevice straw it comes with to spray into crevices of cabinets, storage, under appliances, etc, as long as you avoid any food prep surfaces and cover or remove any exposed food items or utensils before treating. Shockwave Aerosol is labeled for use on boats as long as label instructions are followed.
Yes, Advion Ant Bait Gel is labeled for places such as crawl spaces. We recommend using Bait Plate Stations if you plan on putting it out openly. Overall yes, baits would attract different species of ants, but as long as it is labeled for them they will take it back to their mound.
It is recommended to not use an ant bait such as Advion Ant Bait Gel as a stand alone product for complete eradication. Also, it is a good idea to switch up the ant bait you are using once in a while to prevent any possible resistance issues and to keep the bait as attractive as possible. Please take a moment to review our Ant Control Guide for more information and helpful tips on controlling this pest.
After using Advion Ant Bait Gel, it is typical to see more activity, which is a good thing as they are consuming the bait. It generally can take up to 30 days or before complete elimination depending the size of the colony and the number of colonies in the area. You should continue to bait as long as you see activity
You do not want to put Advion Ant Bait Gel where it will come in contact with water directly because it could reduce the attractiveness and effectiveness of the product and could just be washed off.
Each 30g tube of Advion Ant Bait Gel yields approximately 60 bait placements. Each box of 4 x 30 g tubes yields approximately 240 placements.
