    Q
Does Bifen XTS kill carpenter ants?
Ants are around the house and going into the attic.
    A

Bifen XTS is labeled for carpenter ants. Bifen XTS will eliminate carpenter ants that come into contact with treated surfaces. Termidor SC is the more popular choice for carpenter ant control because it is non-repellent, has a delayed reaction kill and has a transfer effect. This means that the ants cannot detect that an area has been sprayed and cannot avoid the treated area, as they walk over the area they pick small particles of Termidor SC up on their body and inadvertently carry back to the colony spreading it to other ants.

    Q
How often can i apply the Bifen I/T? I applied 5 days ago with little results.
I have eco exempt left over from last year can i apply this now that i applied bifen about 5 days ago?
    A
You did not state what insect you are treating for so it is hard to give you a proper treatment method. The Bifen I/T is a great general insecticide for indoor and outdoor use. However, like most professional grade insecticide concentrates, it is NOT a contact kill. It is a residual, which is normally what a home owner is looking for to control pest around home. The insects in your area did not get there overnight, or in 5 days, so you can't expect to see the entire population gone in that time frame. Depending on the insect you are trying to eradicate, where the source of them is, and how well established the colony is in your yard, will all depend on how long it will take for you to see the Bifens potency taking affect. You reapply Bifen every 30 days outdoors and 90 indoors. Please let us know if we can answer any more questions you may have and feel free to offer more info so that we may better direct to the best treatment method.

    Q
Does Bifen IT kill the eastern lubber grasshopper?
The above mentioned grasshopper eat my entire yard. This grasshopper is coming out in huge numbers
    A

Yes, Bifen IT is labeled for grasshoppers. The mixing ratio is 1 fl. oz. per gallon of water.

A better option would be to use Bifen Granules in your lawn. This will last 2-3 months in the lawn around your home. This will be watered in to activate the product.

    Q
What is the best way to dispose of Bifen IT safely?
    A
According to the Bifen IT product MSDS, the concentrated product disposal methods will vary from one region to another. The Bifen IT manufacturer recommends that you contact your local authorities to inquire about proper disposal methods in your community. Once the Bifen IT is diluted and you find you have too much extra diluted solution, you can simply pour out the extra solution right up against the foundation of your home.

  • Asked by Todd from Grove City, Ohio

    Q
How long will Bifen IT store after mixed ?
    A
Bifen IT should be used up within 24 hours of diluting it with water. The longer an insecticide stands in a diluted state the less effective it becomes.  You should never store product in your sprayer as it will weaken the gaskets and other pieces within the sprayer shortening the life of the sprayer.

    Q
My Bifen IT was exposed to freezing temps. Will that alter its effectiveness?
Forgot to take the container out of my shed over the winter.
    A

It is not recommended to leave any type of chemical in areas where they could freeze or over heat because of the potential for the chemical to break down. According to the manufacturer, as long as the Bifen IT was only exposed to sub freezing temperatures for a short period of time and the product looks exactly the same as before it was exposed, it should be fine.

  • Asked by Drew from Boise

    Q
How long does it take for Bifen IT to kill springtails?
So I've treated the perimeter and several 'hot spots' with the IT. I can spray directly over an area with 10s/100s of active springtails, come back 5 mins later, and they're still crawling all over the place. Is that normal. I'm at my wits end with these things. Have also applied the L/T granule and seeing little improvement.
    A

Bifen IT is labeled for springtails and should work well to help you get rid of them.  It does not kill on contact.  The amount of time it takes for a springtail to die after coming into contact with a treated area will depend on a number of factors such as how healthy the springtail is, what stage of life it is in, and how long it spends in contact with a treated surface.  It could take anywhere from a couple of hours up to a full day. Also, keep in mind that if you are not treating the main nest, and only the satellite colony, you are only be temporarily fixing your problem. More will appear as they continue to migrate.  Springtails are attracted to areas that are high in moisture so if there is a moisture issue this will need to be identified and addressed as well. Until the moisture is gone or the main nest is found and eliminated, you will have an ongoing battle with this pest.  You may want to look over our Springtails Treatment Guide for more tips and information.

    Q
What is an alternative to Bifen IT so insects don't build resistence?
I want to switch off to another insecticide so the insects don't become resistant to it. What insecticide do you recommend switching to and how often should I switch?
    A

We would suggest rotating with Transport Mikron or Permethrin SFR 36.8% for general pest control applications. Typically you can rotate about every year or if you notice a decrease in effectiveness you can rotate sooner.

  • Asked by Alan from Durham, Nc

    Q
    Can I recharge Bifen IT?
Instead of dumping the surplus mixed Bifen IT somewhere, with whatever toxicicity concerns that entails, can I just keep the mix in the jug and re-dose the old mix a month or two later with a new shot of Bifen?
    A

No, once Bifen IT has been mixed with water it either needs to be used or discarded within 24 hours of mixing with water. Do not let Bifen IT sit in the sprayer for longer than 24 hours as the dilution starts to separate and will clog the lines of your sprayer.

  • Asked by John from Louisville ,illinois

    Q
I'm looking for the best spray to use indoors and outdoors.
I want the best all around product that will help me rid myself of all common bugs in and around my house without any residue left on the carpet. Currently, I'm on a quarterly program but just would like to be able to do it myself to my expectations without relying on someone else to do it when they schedule. This product needs to be pet safe also, could you advise me on which one to use? Thanks for your help
    A
We would recommend using Bifen IT. It is a wonderful general pesticide that can be used indoors and outdoors. It dries clear as well. Indoors, you will spray along the baseboards and cracks and crevices. Outdoors, Bifen IT can be broadcast across the lawn, sprayed on trees (non edibles), flowers, shrubs, etc. This product is not labeled to be used on any type of edibles. You will mix 1 fl. oz. per gallon of water. Bifen IT has a residual of up to 90 days indoors and 30 days outdoors. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

    Q
Can Bifen IT kills my pine trees? If I spray it directly on the tree?
I have pine beetles and I was told to spray Bifen IT on my dead tree that has the beetles and on the two surrounding the infected tree in order to make sure they didn't get the beetles as well.
    A
Bifen IT will not kill trees only listed insects. If you have any severely damaged or dead trees, they should be removed to help prevent the beetles from infesting healthy trees in the surrounding area.

  • Asked by Rhonda from Nashville, Tn

    Q
Is treating with Bifen IT the best way to treat cicadas in an ornamental cherry tree and also the ground around it?
I want to also kill the larvae that is in the ground.
    A

Bifen IT will kill Cicada Killers that come into contact with treated areas for a sufficient amount of time to receive a lethal dose. It is labeled for non-edible trees and shrubs. You will need to dilute 1 fl oz of Bifen IT per gallon of water and broadcast spray over the areas where you have noticed activity. Most folks notice only very limited results from broadcast sprays of insecticides for cicada killers because they don't land and walk around for a long enough time before entering their underground burrow. Please read below for the most effective treatment method:

Cicada Killer wasps thrive in disturbed environments, such as landscaped yards and places where bare soil is exposed. You can discourage the wasps from nesting in your yard by cutting your grass on the highest setting and by adding a thick layer of mulch to flower beds during the Cicada Killer Wasp season. These wasps do not like over saturated lawns either, so over watering during their season will help prevent them. Unfortunately, there is no fool proof way to prevent cicada killer wasps. For prevention, you can try to use a granular insecticide such as Talstar PL  Granules in the couple of weeks before this pest is known to emerge. For current infestations, you would need to use Delta dust in each individual burrow.

We also like to let our customers know that the Cicada Killer wasps are beneficial insects that provide free pest control for a couple months each year. Cicada killer wasps paralyze and provision their burrows with other insects to feed their young.  The beneficial Cicada killer wasps, while large and intimidating to see, are mostly harmless and there have been very few reports of anyone getting stung by just being near them. In most cases where a sting was reported, the wasps were being held or molested in some way. Cicada Killer Wasp stings are also reported to be almost painless.

    Q
Mosquitoes are still terrible right now after using Bifen IT?
Why would someone still have a lot of mosquitoes even though multiple acres were treated and the proper application techniques and chemical ratio was used
    A
It sounds like the life cycle needs to be interrupted. You may want to use a larvicide. Larvicides- Mosquito larvae will breed wherever suitable water is available, including bird baths, old automobile tires, rain barrels, ponds, abandoned or unused swimming pools (particularly above ground types), ditches, tree holes, roof gutters, flower pots, animal watering troughs, elevator shafts,. If it is not possible to eliminate a particular source, larvicides may be used to kill mosquito larvae before they are able to develop into breeding adults. Larvicides may take the form of either briquettes or granules that are placed in standing water and release chemical for up to 30 days.
Briquette Larvicides: BTI Mosquito Briquettes Granule Larvicide: Altosid Pro-G Mosquito Larvicide

You can also mix in Nyguard Igr which will prevent the  larvae from maturing into reproducing adults. Nyguard IGR can also cause sterility and possible death in adult mosquitos.

    Q
Can you mix Bifen IT and Termidor for termites?
    A

Bifen IT and Termidor should not be mixed for termite control.  Bifenthrin products used to be considered a good form of termite treatment, but bifenthrin acts as a repellent and now a days almost all professional termite companies are using non-repellents, such as Termidor SC.  We have a great article called How To Do A Termite Treatment that explains how to perform a treatment using a non-repellent termiticide.
