    Q
Can I use Bifen XTS on roses?

Yes, Bifen XTS is labeled to be used over the top of ornamentals, including roses. We would recommend to avoid spraying directly on the blooms or when temperatures are over 90 degrees to avoid possible burning.

  • Asked by Charles from Dallas, Texas
    07/16/2015
    Q
    Will Bifen XTS kill termites?
How much do I use for 388 sf bldg. How long will it last? When is the best time of year to treat for termites in NE Texas?
    A

Bifen XTS will kill termites that come in contact with it, and a termite treatment with Bifen XTS will last for 3-5 years. For the best complete prevention and treatment, we recommend that you use Termidor SC.  Please visit our Barrier Treatment page for proper application. Once in the ground, Termidor will last for up to 10 years. For either termiticide, you will use 4 gallons of finished solution for every 10 linear feet around the structure you are treating. You can treat any time of year as long as the ground is not frozen, air temperatures are not below freezing, and there is no current precipitation.

  • Asked by Gus from Lagrange, Ga
    07/21/2015
    Q
Is Bifen XTS my best bet to eliminate chinch bugs?
I was going by active ingredient % and noticed that this product had considerable more than Talstar P.
    A

Talstar P, Bifen IT or Bifen XTS are all great bifenthrin products that are labeled for eradicating chinch bugs. As long as they are applied according to the label, they will be effective for control. Bifen XTS has a larger percentage but is diluted differently than Talstar P or Bifen IT (both water based concentrates).

  • Asked by Joan from Kinston, Nc
    09/23/2015
    Q
Can I treat an old farm house table that has been stored and appears to have had pine beetles with Bifen XTS?
After a few days, I will wash table with white vinegar and linseed oil mixed. Will it be safe to use for eating table after this treatment? If not, please advise a safe way to treat this table and use for eating afterward.
    A

For the treatment of wood destroying insects we would recommend Boracare instead because it is absorbed by the wood and will last the lifetime of the wood. It is recommended for Boracare to be applied to raw wood, but if it's not, you can inject it into the wood. Be sure to follow the label instructions for proper application. Once it's dry, you can then stain it within 6 weeks of the application, and it would be safe for eating afterwards.

  • Asked by Rb from Ri
    03/17/2016
    Q
Can you compare Bifen XTS vs. Bifen I/T?
Is Bifen XTS as effective as Bifen I/T? I have been using Bifen I/T but customers have complained that it is not effective on mosquitoes. What is best application method, sprayer or backpack mister? Does Bifen XTS have an odor? Will it stain? Can it irritate the skin? Thank you
    A

Bifen I/T is one of our most popular products for mosquito control.  Bifen XTS is basically the same product, just in a higher concentration, and oil-based instead of water-based.  For mosquito control you do not need the higher concentration, it is not necessary.  The most important thing to remember when treating for mosquitoes is that they hang out on the underside of leaves and shrubs.  You should treat all shrubs, bushes and trees, remembering to not only treat the main bush or shrub but also the underside of the leaves.  Mosquitoes lay their eggs in standing water, so if there are any areas of standing water where you are treating, those should be treated as well with BTI Mosquito Dunks or Altosid Pro-G Mosquito Larvicide

You may also want to look over our Mosquito Control Article if you have a moment.

Either sprayer or mister application would be effective with either product as long as the application is thorough.  Oil-based products such as Bifen XTS can stain some surfaces.  This is not usually a concern in most areas outside, but you should use caution when treating around the siding of a home.  Most oil-based products such as Bifen XTS do have a "chemical" odor but it is not especially strong.

Both Bifen I/T and Bifen XTS can cause moderate skin irritation.  Be sure to use adequate skin protection as outlined on the product label, such as wearing gloves and long pants/sleeves to avoid this.

Does Bifen XTS kill all life stages of squash vine borers?

Bifen XTS is not labeled for Squash bugs or for use on any edible plants. We do carry the Hi-Yield Indoor/Outdoor 10% Permethrin Insecticide that is labeled for squash bugs and will do great job controlling them when used as directed on the product label. This product will kill the adult stages.
