    Q
How hot does the water have to be to mix Bora-Care ?
    A

When mixing Bora-Care, it is recommended to use hot water to make it easier to dilute it. The water should not be scalding hot, it should be a warm/hot temperature that will also be safe in case it splatters. It is recommended to dilute in a bucket first before putting it into the sprayer. The solut…

    Q
Old railroad ties had poria last year. I will treat them with Bora-Care, but if they are outside in the rainy season....
I had to rip out half my pottery studio because mudslides clogged the crawl space underneath and poria fungus destroyed a lot of the structure. Now another structure is right by a retaining wall of railroad ties that had some fungus last year and dried out. one side of them is butted up to the dirt they are retaining, but my thought is to spray the exposed sides, then seal them 48 hours later. Will this keep the Bora Care protected from washing away?
    A

You will need to do 2 application of Bora-Care. After applying first coat you will wait 20 minutes and then add the second coat.

    Q
Can someone please help? I live in Pennsylvania and I’m treating my home for powderpost beetles
I’m using a 1:1 ratio of bora care but still seeing evidence of active beetles. Just wondering if this is normal ?
    A

Yes, it is common to still see evidence after treatment with Bora-care.  The beetles lie dormant for years and once they wake up they start consuming the wood, which is when we see the sawdust material.  Now that it has been treated with Bora-care, once they consume the wood they will die.

Is there an epoxy in this Bora-Care and can the area be painted? And does the rotted wood have to be damp or d
For best absorption in dry rot should the wood be dry or wet and can I paint the wood after awhile
    A

No, Bora-Care does not contain epoxy. Applying Boracare would not affect epoxy bonding, or paint to the wood beam as long as the Bora-Care application has had enough time to completely dry. This usually takes 24-48 hours. For best absorption, the wood must be dry before applying the Boracare.

    Q
I have an attic that is accessible. My rafters are 2x8 and my stud wall are 2x6.
Only 1 to 2 inches of wood is exposed due to existing open cell spray foam insulation. Will BoraCare permeate through the insulation to protect all sides for the wood, or should I not be concerned.i don’t want to remove the insulation prior to treatment
    A

The insulation should be removed so that the Bora-Care can be applied directly to the wood. It is safe to place it back once the surfaces treated are completely dry.

  • Asked by George from Barrington, Illinois
    08/25/2024
    Q
Is 'Bora-Care' suitable to use on wolmanized or cedar tone-treated lumber?
I have an existing deck constructed originally with a combination of 'Cedartone' or 'Wolmanized' preservative-treated lumber. Due to not being originally sealed (18 years ago, previous owner), the deterioration requires us to replace the decking and some of the perimeter lumber. Should I be treating both sides of the decking boards ('Cedartone')? Thanks for the information. George
    A

Pressure-treated wood is not necessary to treat with Bora-Care as it is already resistant to pests, mold, water damage, etc. However, in this case, because it has been 18 years & was not originally sealed, then yes Bora-Care can be applied.
