    Q
How long is the potency of the Contrac if a mouse ate this bait that laid out for six months will it die?
    A

Contrac bait should be stored at room temperature and replaced every 40-60 days in the bait stations because it contains food based ingredients. The bait could mold or sour in the hot or cold months (should be replaced every 30 days during the summer and winter) and may be less palatable to the mice…

    Q
Roof Rats are stealing my bait. How long does it take for Contrac blocks to break down outside?
I am trying to make sure how long the bait will take to biodegrade outside so I do not have to be concerned about friend's pets in my backyard. Will rain accelerate the process?
    A

There is no defined time for the Contrac Blox to breakdown. The more moisture and direct sunlight the exposed blocks receive, the faster they will breakdown. The actual active ingredient will last until the bait has disintegrated. For future baiting it is important to secure the bait so that it ca…

    Q
    Does Contrac contain glass?
    A

Contrac does not contain glass. It contains food based ingredients that attract the rodents to the bait for consumption. It is an anti-coagulant which means once the mice eat this product they begin to bleed to death from the inside.  The mice first become sick, and then grow tired and wea…

  • Asked by Lori from Washington, Dc

    Q
Will you modify the Contrac so it stops killing owls and other predators?
I am concerned about the numbers of raptors dying from secondary poisoning after eating poisoned rodents. The anti coagulant in Contrac blocs will also kill owls, and other raptors as well as mammalian predators that eat poisoned rodents. Will you change the formula so it is environmentally friendly and doesnt kill much needed predators?
    A

While we are not the manufacturer of the Contrac blox we do carry another product that is for use in areas where secondary poisoning of predatory birds are an issue.  Terad3 rodenticide is usually used in areas where secondary poisoning is a concern because it has a reduced risk of secondary p…

    Q

It's in the kitchen in the stove, I placed a bait station behind the stove along with glue boards under the stove.
    A

Below is a few helpful hints for baiting Mice. Always use fresh bait. Rodents will avoid old, moldy, or insect-ridden baits. When baiting for mice, a good measure for distance between placements is 8 to 12 feet apart for light to moderate infestations. Heavy or severe …

  • Asked by Nick from Vancouver, Bc
    01/29/2014
    Q
Will Contrac attract rats from the neighbourhood?
How attracted rats are to the Contrac Blox? A pest control guy suggested that it wouldn't be a good idea to preventatively use baiting station with Contac. He said that it may attract rats that otherwise wouldn't be around the house. Is this right? Would it really attract rats from, say, 10-20 yards away? Thanks.
    A

Yes, the mice and rodents in the area will be attracted to the Contrac Blox as they are made of a variety of very attractive food based ingredients for the rodents to want to feed on. Any rodents looking for a food source would want to go to the bait in the stations.

    Q
Does Contrac give off any vapors when placed inside the home, and if so, are the harmful to humans?
We placed 11 contrac blocks in the attic of our house to get rid of mice, and are concerned about possible effects of the vapors on us. We also placed several stations baited with Contac in the kitchen and basement. Is this safe for humans?
    A

Contrac is a block rodenticide that does not release any vapors. If applied in tamper resistant bait stations it should pose no harm to humans if applied as directed.

    Q
How long is the shelf life of the Contrac Blox Rodenticide?
    A

Contrac Blox should be used within about 1 year of the purchase date. The active ingredient within the product would most likely stay effective long after 1 year but the food ingredients or the attractants will start to degrade and will no longer be attractive to rodents. Just opening and closi…

    Q
How many roof rats will one block of contrac kill?
    A

Contrac Blox is a single feed rodenticide. Single feed means a rodent can consume a lethal dose of Bromadiolone in 1 feeding therefore resulting in death within 1-5 days. The number of rodents that 1 block will treat is undeterminable. Place 3 to 16 Contrac Blox (usually at intervals of 15…

    Q
I need a good bait to control rats and mice. I also need something for spiders on my farm.
I have been using a rat bait from Agway, and it is not doing what I want it too do. I am tired of the spiders in my shops and the basement of the house. I would like too try a good rodenticide. Any good recommendations?
    A

For a rodenticide, we would recommend Contrac Blox. It is a single feed kill. It comes in an 18 lb. pail. We would recommend putting these in rat bait stations, such as Protecta Rat Bait Stations. If you are in CA, we would recommend Fastrac Blox. Although they are not a single feed kill, they still…

  • Asked by David

    Q
    Insects eating Contrac Blox Rodenticide
I have Contrac Blox Rodenticide inside Protecta Evo Ambush bait stations, and it appears that insects are eating the bait. I put these out last year, and I didn't notice any signs of insects eating the bait at that time (I change the bait every 4 months). Recently, all of the bait was gone, and I replaced it and rechecked the next week to find them covered in insects. Any ideas/suggestions?
    A

Insects are trying to fatten up for the winter. It is not uncommon for insects to be more attracted to rodent bait like Contrac. We recommend to sprinkle Niban Bait around the outside perimeter of the bait station to keep the insects out.

    Q
Allergy Reactions to Smelling Contrac Bait Blox
I understand the Contrac bait blocks do not give off a vapor, correct? Is it still possible for the odors from the bait when placed into an attic to weep through drywall and cause a reaction to a child (living in a room below the attic) who is highly allergic to various foods?
    A

Contrac Blox Rodenticide do not emit any type of vapor. This product should not cause a reaction to a child unless they come in direct contact with it. Contrac Blox should be placed in tamper resistant bait stations. It will pose no threat to humans if it is used as directed.

    Q
If I get Contrac Blox, can u tell me if the mice or rats will die in walls or will they go outside to die?
I live in an apartment and would like to know what I'm facing here. Place is infested!
    A

Rodents that eat the ContracBlox will not neccessarily go outside to die. There is a high possibility they will die indoors and then you will be dealing with a very foul odor for atleast a few weeks. We would recommend trapping rodents indoors using snap traps or glueboards. Trapping eliminates…

  • Asked by Andrew from Brockville, Ontario
    07/02/2015
    Q
How lethal is Contrac Blox if injested by a canine?
Just wondering if my math is right each blox contains about 1.4mg of Bromadiolone? and bromadiolone is lethal at 10mg per 1 kg body weight? so a 10kg dog would need to eat roughly 70 blox to be fatal? 0.005% of (28 grams) = 1.4 milligrams
    A

Each blox of Contrac is 28 grams which equal 2800mg. If your pet ate an actual blox, I wouldn't take the chance of figuring it out because the minimum amount could be lethal. It would be best to take your pet to the vet and have him/her take a look and/or administer the antidote which is Vitamin K1.

I understand Contract bait is now labeled for voles. What is the best exterior protocol?
    A

To our knowledge Contrac Blox are not labeled for Voles. Kaput Combo Mini Blox is labeled to be used for voles and would be a better option when used in bait stations. Voles: Place 1 block in each bait station. Situate bait stations near runways, burrow opening or plants that voles have been damag…
