Cy-Kick CS works very well for scorpions but not near ponds or areas of water. In those areas, we recommend applying Essentria IC3.

  • Asked by Tayler from Ogden, Ut (soon To Be Phoenix, Az)
    04/15/2014
    Q
Where are the best places to use Cy-Kick, Delta Dust and/or Drione Dust when treating for scorpions?
We're moving to an area of Arizona outisde of Phoenix that is known to have frequent scorpion problems. I've already ordered several products to treat our new home (in addition to trying to seal the house and eliminate harborages in the yard). I've ordered Bifen granules to treat the yard and rock landscaping; Cy-Kick CS to treat around the foundation, the walls of the house, around bushes, and around baseboards and entry points inside the home; and both Drione Dust and Delta Dust to treat void spaces. So, I have a few questions: First, when treating with Cy-Kick inside the home, how and where do you spray most effectively for scoprions? Can Cy-Kick be applied in the attic as well? Second, when treating with Delta Dust and Drione dust, where are the most effective places to use each type of dust - both inside and outside the home? (I have read some sites that say to use a 50/50 mixture of drione and delta dust throughout the home. I've also seen some sites that say use Drione dust under cabinets and appliances, around switches, vents, and fixtures - and to use Delta Dust in the attic because insects will avoid Drione dust and using it in the attic may drive pests downward into living spaces. I'd never heard that before - and I certainly want to kill whatever is in the attic while it's in the attic without driving pests downstairs.) And is it overkill to both spray and dust in attic spaces, or to spray Cy-Kick around baseboards as well as applying dust under baseboards? Will both pesticides still be effective if used in the same place?
    A
When using Cy-Kick inside, you are applying to cracks and crevices around the room, along the baseboards, bottom of door frames, behind the toilet when the pipes come in, etc.  You would use either the Delta Dust or Drione Dust, we would not advise of using them together it would really be a waste of product.  The key is applying only a light dusting so that insects will not avoid it, if you can see the dust, so can they.  You would apply underneath baseboards, inside of cracks and crevices, and behind cabinets and in the attic around the vents and other cracks and crevices.  Please also read over our scorpion control article here

centipedes found mostly in lower level of a duplex home (below street level) and also near door of upper level. looking for an effective way to keep them out.
    A
Please see out Centipede Control Page. Since you said that you are seeing them below ground level, we would recommend to work on taking out the humidity. Also, apply a product like Cy Kick CS to cracks, crevices, indoors and out.

    Q
Do you offer a product to spray the perimeter of my home to prevent pests from entering?
I have used a pest control company and would now like to do my own pest control as they are not very consistent in their work.
    A
Yes, we recommend using Cy-kick CS. Cy Kick CS is a liquid concentrate insecticide that provides 90 days of full-throttle killing power, controlling insects indoors and outdoors. With a broad spectrum label including spiders, ants, mosquitoes, bees, cockroaches, crickets, fleas, flies, bed bugs, silverfish, ticks, wasps, wood infesting borers and more, you don’t have to pick and choose between different insecticides for different pests. Cy-Kick CS works great against every insect you’re up against, so one product and one application is all you need.

There should not be any harm using Cy-Kick CS in that manner.  Of course you would want to be sure to cover the well during application incase of drift spray and follow the instructions on the product label for application.

    Q
What is the difference between the active ingredient in (Cyfluthrin) and (Cypermethrin)?
    A

Cyfluthrin belongs to a class of insecticides known as synthetic pyrethroids. Synthetic pyrethroids are man-made insecticides created to mimic the chemical properties of the naturally-occurring insecticide pyrethrum, which comes from the crushed petals of the Chrysanthemum flower. Synthetic pyrethroids, like cyfluthrin, are often preferred to the real thing as an active ingredient because they offer the added bonus of remaining effective for longer periods of time, sometimes up to 3 months.

Cypermethrin belongs to a class of insecticides known as synthetic pyrethroids, found in Cynoff EC, Cynoff WP, Cyper TC Termiticide, Cyper WP, and Demon WP pesticide concentrates. Synthetic pyrethroids are man-made insecticides created to mimic the chemical properties of the naturally-occurring insecticide pyrethrum, which comes from the crushed petals of the Chrysanthemum flower. Synthetic pyrethroids, like cypermethrin, are often preferred to the real thing as active ingredients because they offer the added bonus of remaining effective for longer periods of time.

They are very similar. The differences usually depend on the products themselves.

    Q
How toxic is Cy-Kick CS undiluted?
Someone I know offered to do some pest control for me in my kitchen. I gave him a bottle of Cy-Kick CS that I bought some time ago and told him the dilution rate was 1 oz per gallon. Except when I checked back to see how he was doing (noticing that he had started awfully quickly), he had poured the whole 32 oz of Cy-Kick CS into a spray bottle with only a little water, and was proceeding to do crack treatment along the walls and under the cabinets. I don't think he knows what he's doing (although he claims to have been in the pest control industry). How dangerous is this? What health hazards does this pose, and what should I do about it?
    A
While we cannot comment on the use of product by a third party we can say that Cy-Kick CS must be diluted with water and applied following the instructions on the product label.  We would recommend contacting the manufacturer of Cy-Kick directly at 1-800-777-8570.

    Q
Can Cy-Kick CS and Termidor SC be combined and sprayed together?
I have all the insects imaginable in Central California Mountains at about 3000 ft elevation. Is one or the other better or both?
    A
Termidor SC and Cy Kick should never be mixed and sprayed together. They are two very different products and the Termidor is designed for very specific treatments only. Cy Kick would be a fantastic product for you to use and it can be sprayed every 30 days outdoors if needed but will often last 60-90 days depending on how the outdoor elements affect it over time. Cy Kick also is labeled to be used indoors around baseboards and cracks and crevices. You would want to spray the Cy Kick 2-3 feet up and 2-3 feet out all the way around the foundation of the home and around window and door frames and other entry points for pests. You can also treat areas of the yard where you have heavy insect populations as well.

    Q
I have been spraying CY-KICK (CS) monthly inside/outside my house since March.
It has been successful in eliminating scorpions. We (in Arizona) are now in the Monsoon Season (rainy). My question is: does the rain affect the performance of the product or shall I continue using it as usual? Thank you.
    A
Cy-Kick CS is a great general pest control for monthly outdoor control of scorpions and other common household insects. If applied on a dry day, it will hold up in the rain for 4 weeks.

  • Asked by Bruce from United States

    Q
Which is the best to keep scorpions out of your house? Demon Max, Demon WP or some other product?
    A

Our most popular product for scorpions is Cy-Kick CS, which is microencapsulated so it has a long residual, but also packs a punch.  There are many good reviews on the Cy-Kick page about how it works on scorpions. We also recommend the following to our customers with scorpions for the most complete treatment.

Non-insecticide methods for scorpion control are:

Harborage Removal- Harborage removal is key to scorpion control and will greatly reduce the numbers of scorpions in the area surrounding the structure, making it far less likely that they will enter. Harborage removal includes eliminating piles of lumber, bricks, and other stacked items that create clusters of tight spaces, elimination of vegetation and other heavy ground coverings near homes and buildings, trimming back tree and shrub limbs from walls and roof, and keeping gutters clear of leaves and other debris.

Exclusion- Scorpions and other pests can be kept out of structures to a large degree by installing tight-fitting screens, weatherstripping around doors and windows, and caulking cracks and crevices.

    Q
Can I use a plastic sprayer to apply Cy-Kick CSt?
    A

When applying the Cy Kick CS you would need to use a pump sprayer similar to the Chapin 1 Gallon pump sprayer we carry. It can also be applied in a hose end sprayer. You will adjust your settings to apply 1-2 fl oz per gallon of water to treat 1,000 sq ft.

    Q
We live on a large lot in Las Vegas that borders the desert. Have huge ant problem in yard.
We do get some centipedes seasonally indoors and around house foundation. We have lots of lizards around, which we don't mind b/c they eat the bugs. Have also seen nests of cockroaches out in the desert and other people in area have scorpions (we don't-probably the lizards). We have another 5ft outside our property walls in the desert which I feel we can treat to be effective. Not sure what kinds of products to use and we don't want to harm the lizards, if possible. Finally, we have a ground squirrel problem. Any ideas?
    A

We would recommend using a product called Cy Kick CS. You can apply 3 feet up and out around the outside perimeter of you home. Also, indoors cracks and crevices. Keep in mind that this product will kill most of the pest the lizards are preying on. It will not harm lizards, but they may go elsewhere for food. Cykick is also recommended for desert conditions, because it stands up to UV rays and works really well on scorpions. It will also kill roaches that come incontact with it. You can use Maxforce Complete where you have seen the ants trailing. Be sure not to spray where you may apply the bait.

Please visit out ground squirrel control page.  Trapping and repelling are the best options.
