    Q
Is there a conversion table per 1000 sq ft for Dithiopyr 40 WSB?
Hi, I purchased this and read the label but I am having trouble finding how much powder should be used per 1000 sq ft and also what the annual limits are for various grass types.
    A

How much Dithiopyr 40 WSB you use depends on the program you going to use but the amount is not easily measured out for smaller areas since it is in premeasured pouches.  The max rate on the label states: Do not apply more than 0.5 lb ai/ acre per application or more than 1.5 lb ai/acre per year using split or sequential applications.

A better option if you have less than an acre to treat would be the liquid version Dimension 2EW.  You will use .33 - .73 of an ounce of Dimension 2EW per 1,000 sq ft. The exact usage rate will depend on your location and the application program you choose. Please refer to pages 4-6 of the product label to find the exact usage rate for your needs.

  • Asked by Alison from Granbury, Tx

    Q
Does Dithiopyr 40 WSB require the use a surfactant?
Also it is my understanding that you mix it with 10 gal of water per pouch, and it covers 1/4 to 1/2 acre.
    A

Per the product label for Dithiopyr 40 WSB, when using as a post emergent tank mix for crabgrass: Improved control may be seen by the addition of a nonionic surfactant.  The rate will vary depending on the type of grass you have and program you are using.  Water is just the carrier so the amount of water you use is dependent on how much it takes to cover the treated area and is not set but you should a minimum of one gallon of water per 1000 sq ft.

    Q
What fertilizer do you recommend to mix with Dithiopyr 40 WSB and Gallery in a pump sprayer.
I'd like to do all thee of these at once to save time. I need to cover 10k-11k square feet of lawn that is mostly bermuda. There is a little Zoysia and many weeds. I'm in Central Texas, Hill Country.
    A

Without knowing exactly what nutrients your lawn needs, it can be difficult to recommend fertilizers. Keep in mind that liquid fertilizers are often applied at either very high rates or designed to be used frequently. Turfgrass Pro 28-0-0 would be used weekly or bi-weekly through the growing season at a rate of 6-12 oz per 1,000 sq ft per application. If you are needing a more complete fertilizer, then Ferti-Lome Lawn Food Plus Iron 24-0-4 also contains iron and micronutrients (this is a granule fertilizer). You can browse all our lawn fertilizers here. Keep in mind that Dithiopyr 40 WSB contains water-soluble packets which are each 5 oz, so for use in TX, 1 x 5 oz pouch covers 14,250 square feet. A better choice for you may be either Dimension 2EW (liquid concentrate) or Hi-Yield Weed and Grass Stopper with Dimension (granule).

    Q
Can Dithiopyr 40 WSB be applied via hose-end sprayer?
    A

The Dithiopyr 40 SWB must be used in a tank sprayer as these are water-soluble sachets that are typically diluted and dispersed into 25 gallons of water at at time. It would not work in a hose-end sprayer. We highly suggest going with a liquid formulation of pre emergent if you are looking to use a hose end sprayer to treat your yard.

Dimension 2EW Herbicide (each 1/2 gallon jug will treat up to roughly 3 acres):

  • Asked by Charlene from Newalla, Oklahoma 74857

    Q
What is the rate of Dithiopyr 40 WSB for treating sandburs in a 15 gallon sprayer? What PPE is required for applicators?
I understand now this product is only for professional use the company that sold it to me knew I was a home owner I have to use it I have 2 20 ounce sealed containers and I big time problem with sandbur's the lable doesn't tell me and am now afraid of the stuff I bought a one piece coverall for spraying harmful liquids I have a new painters type of mask, goggles rubber boots and rubber long arm gloves trouble is I cannot find out how much Dithiopyr 40WSB to put in my new 15 gallon sprayer. PLEASE help me. I bought this mail order from a company in South Carolina that recommended it to me a couple years ago.
    A

Dithiopyr 40 WSB is labeled for pre-emergent control sandbur and many other broadleaf and grassy weeds. The application rate is 0.46 oz per 1000 sq ft.

If you do not know the total square footage of the lawn, measure off the area to determine how many sq ft you have and then determine how much water is needed to thoroughly and evenly cover the area to be treated. To determine how many sq ft the 15 gallon sprayer will cover, we recommend doing a mock application where you will fill the tank with plain water, and treat the lawn area just as you would to apply the Dithiopyr 40 WSB. Since water is the carrier, there is no set amount but typically 1 gallon of water per 1000 sq ft is standard.

For protective wear, the product label recommends applicators wear: Long-sleeved shirt and long pants, chemical-resistant gloves made of any waterproof material and shoes plus socks.
