    Q
Will Drione Dust kill ticks that are hiding in an open hole in my walls, and cracks and crevices?
I wanted to try and eliminate them myself because the exterminator quoted me $625. How often should I apply? I have also bought Bifen I/T, Pivot IGR, and Permethrin. I have treated my dogs with Bravecto. And when applying the dust, should I first apply the liquid insecticide first, then let it dry, and then apply the dust? Would Delta Dust be just as effective as Drione? How often should I retreat to break the life cycle?
    A

Drione Dust is labeled to treat for ticks. Yes, you would want to use the Bifen IT indoors around the baseboards and cracks and crevices, and then apply the dust. Delta Dust is also labeled for ticks, and is waterproof as well, so if you are using both that might be a better option for your application. You would wat to use the Permethrin product you have for an outdoor application as it is an oil based formulation and could stain some areas. You would want to treat anywhere your dogs go in your yard. We recommend paying special attention to your entrances to your home so that you can get a barrier there.

    Q
Is Drione dust poisonous to dogs if inhaled or swallowed?
My dog just recently inhaled some Drione Dust and swallowed some, is it poisonous?
    A
Yes, if Drione dust is inhaled or ingested in large quantities your dog could have an adverse reaction to the dust. In small quantities you most likely would not see any reaction other than sneezing as the dust could be irritating to the mucus membranes in the nose and mouth. We recommend that you take your dog to the veterinarian for an examination just to be safe. We have linked the Drione dust product label and MSDS in our answer so you can easily print them out to give to the vet.

    Q
Does Drione Dust work well for killing fleas on concrete floors?
I have a infestation of fleas and springtails in my basement. The basement is unfinished so there is nothing but cement floors and insulation on walls.
    A
Drione is not labeled to be broadcast over floors so we would not recommend it for this use. If the floorplan is wide open and there are no obstructions, we would instead recommend Precor Fogger Plus for this area. The Permethrin in Precor® Plus Fogger immediately kills adult fleas, while Precor IGR prevents pre-adult fleas from creating new infestations of breeding, biting adults.

    Q
I used Drione Dust to get rid of bedbugs in my apartment complex. They seem to be making a comeback. Help
    A
First, using powders or dusts alone will not effectively get rid of a bedbug infestation. Insecticide dusts (such as Drione) and powders take about a week to actually kill insects and in that time the bedbugs can still bite and reproduce. We offer bedbug kits that contain all of the different products you need to eliminate bedbugs and retreatments should be done every 7-10 days until you do not receive a bite for 30 days. Most dusts only need to be applied once every few months and unless you vacuumed. We also highly recommend using mattress and boxspring encasements to help eliminate bedbug infestations. These bedbug proof covers will trap existing bedbugs and eliminate hiding places and make inspections easier.

    Q
Can I use Drione Dust outside in ground cover near a pond to treat for wasps?
I have a big bee/wasp nest near my pond on rocky terrain surrounded by ivy and ground cover. I can't remove the rocks without getting stung. I have tried but can't find the nest. Can I apply Drione dust to the ivy, rocks, and soil area? I have a newborn and two dogs and was wondering how safe this may be. If Drione is not recommended, what do you suggest? Also, can you suggest equipment and clothing I will need to do this safely? Thank you!
    A

Drione Dust would only really work if you were to dust directly into the nest, but it can take longer for this treatment to work. Even if you dust inside the rocky cover you risk the fact that may not come in contact with the product. We highly recommend that you take a look at our "How to get rid of Wasps" article. It is better to treat with an insecticide that can give you a better and longer residual, so we would recommend our Wasp and Hornet Control Kit and our Complete Professional Bee Suit for safety.

  • Asked by Lon from Duncannon, Pa

    Q
    Was Drione Dust reformulated?
It use to work well as a fine dust before it was in short supply. Now since we restocked it, its consistency is more like sand and doesn't puff well into voids. It even sounds gritty when used with a metal extension. What's the deal?
    A

The formulation of Drione Dust has not changed. There was a pyrethrins shortage several years ago which caused Drione Dust to be hard to find for some time, but there have not been any stocking issues for awhile. It is important to store Drione Dust in a dry area with low humidity and to keep the top securely closed. If the dust gets damp or is stored in a humid area, then the dust could clump up and be more difficult to apply. If you have purchased from us and believe there is an issue with product you received, please contact us and have the manufacturer's lot stamp handy for us to reference.

    Q
Can I use Drione Dust in the attic?
    A

Drione Dust can be applied to the attic. You should concentrate on dusting the cracks, crevices and voids and other areas where the insects harbor. If you have vents that blow air through the attic and into the home, caution should be used to take care the dust is not blown through the vents.

When using Drione Dust the idea is that you puff the dust into the individual holes.  We would also recommend using the Alpine Yellow Jacket Kit.

Does Drione come in a liquid? We think we have ant nests.

Drione Dust does not come in a liquid formulation. It should be applied using a duster. According to the manufacturer's MSDS, Drione has a very mild, tea-like odor. For more information on treating for ants, please click on the links below. Please let us know if you have any questions.

    Q
What can be used to treat inside walls for roaches?
treat main floor area with bait and igr, treating electrical boxes with insecticide drops as in cabinets. can not use aerosol due to allergies, what else can be done for inside walls.
    A
We recommend using a liquid insecticide along baseboards, cracks and crevices and behind appliances such as Alpine WSG. This is a wettable granular that you mix in a 1 gallon pump sprayer. Alpine WSG is labled as reduce risk and meant to be used in sensitive conditions but will still give great results. Inside wall voids, applying Dione Dust with a bellow hand duster will give you a quick kill and last for up to 6 months in undisturbed areas.

    Q
Do I have baby bed Bugs or fleas?
I bought Drione from you to kill bed bugs, they are almost 100% gone. Now my ankles are being bitten all day by what seems to be fleas. Don't have a pet. I used mattress covers and also Bedlam. Do I have fleas or a baby bed bug problem? Evidence of fleas = Saw one bug seem to jump when I tried to kill it (may have been small fly), small black flecks, biting like fleas on ankles. Evidence of Bed Bugs plus I know I had them but your Drione has helped greatly! Thanks, Jon
    A
That is a question we cannot answer.  In this situation, it is imperative to identify what you are dealing with.  The best way to do this is to catch one on a glue board or tape or something so that you can take it to a pest control company that has an entomologist on staff or a local college with an entomology department.  Some things you describe could be bed bugs or fleas.  It is too hard for us to give a definitive answer without a specimen to see.  We hope you understand our position.

    Q
Is Drione Dust safe to use around pet birds?
I have two budgies and a grackle, as well as a cat. The birds cages are just outside the room being treated, and the cat has free roam. Is this product safe for use around pet birds? How long will they need to be removed from the apartment for treatment?
    A

You should always keep Drione Dust and other insecticides out of reach of pets, especially birds. We would not recommend using Drione Dust directly in or on bird cages or resting areas. If you are using the dust in a neighboring room as directed on the product label, then you would not need to remove the birds from the home. Be sure to use an appropriate duster such as a Bellow Hand Duster to apply insecticide dust and avoid unnecessary exposure of people and animals to the insecticide. Using a duster will get the dust directly into cracks and crevices and help you to avoid over-application. Any excess or visible dust should be cleaned up with a moist paper towel before pets re-enter the area.

    Q
Is Drione Dust safe to use around ferrets and other pets?
I have a roach problem, and have a ferret that we let out of the cage often, he can get into the cabinets and in the couch, so I worry about any pesticides that can be used around him. Is this safe to use? Is there another product that is safer to use?
    A

Drione dust is safe to use around pets only if you place the dust in areas where your pet cannot get to, such as inside wall voids, under appliances and other areas.  It seems to us that if you really want to eliminate your roach problem you may have to limit the ferrets' access and time outside of the cage.  It may take the use of pesticides to eliminate your problem.  Our roach control kit has a very high success rate and will not harm the ferret if the ferret is not let out of its cage while you are treating.

    Q
How and where do you use this product for bed bugs?
Area or places in the bedroom such as mattress.
    A

Drione Dust is only a commercial product. Per product label: Take bed apart. Dust into joints and channels. If hollow, such as square or round tubing, see that the interior of framework is well dusted. Mattresses should be dusted, especially tufts, folds, and edges. Picture frame moldings and all cracks and crevices in the room should be treated. Dusting around other places: For applications in non-food areas, apply a continuous visible film where insects hide: Underneath and behind stairs, refrigerators and appliances and on, around, and behind moldings, shelving, baseboards, pipe openings, cracks and crevices.

    Q
    Is it safe for pets?
    A

Drione Dust is a very safe product and also very effective.  Like any product. you need to make sure you apply it as directed and read all instructions for it to work properly on insects and be safe for your family.  Drione Dust is meant to be applied in cracks and crevices, underneath appliances and inside wall voids.  If you apply it correctly and in these types of areas, it will not be accessible for your pets and children to come in contact with but it will be in the places that bugs like to hide.  You do not have to remove the pets and children while you are treating, but it would be a good idea to have them in a different room while you are applying the dust.  After 30 minutes have passed after you have applied the product, it is perfectly safe for them to be back in the room that you treated.
