    Q
Which is a better pre-emergeent herbicide between Ferti-Lome Broadleaf Weed Control with Gallery and XL 2G?
I already plan to use Dimension (Pennington's) for crabgrass prevention.
    A
As far as effectiveness, both the Ferti-Lome Broadleaf Weed Control with Gallery and the XL 2G will give you exceptional results on broadleaf weed and some annual grass control. The Ferti-Lome Broadleaf Weed Control with Gallery is my personal preference because of the great price. It's the most bang for your buck. However, to give you more of a precise answer we would need to know the weeds you are wanting to kill and where you plan on using the pre-emergent.

    Q
    Reference to eliminating Chamber Bitter
Can applying Ferti-Lome Broadleaf Weed Control with Gallery keep Chamber Bitter from growing in my Fescue lawn? I live in Raleigh, NC and would like to know if this will work.
    A
We have spoken with the manufacturer of Ferti-Lome Broadleaf Weed Control with Gallery and they have confirmed that it will work for Chamber Bitter but that is a very difficult weed to control.   The active ingredient Isoxaben is the only pre-emergent that is labeled to control it though.

  • Asked by Pat from Simpsonville, Sc
    08/27/2016
    Q
What time of year do you apply Ferti-Lome Broadleaf Weed Control with Gallery for Burweed control in SC?
Could you please give me an idea of when to apply Gallery for control of Burweed in upstate (Greenville area) South Carolina? I believe I am in zone 7.
    A

According to an article by the Clemson Cooperative Extension, you would want to apply Ferti-Lome Broadleaf Weed Control with Gallery during the winter months of December, January, & February. The weed is smaller and easier to control during this time of year and has not yet developed the spine-tipped burs. Control is not impossible in March, April, & May, but the spines have already formed by this time and will remain after the weed dies. Because lawn burweed is a winter annual, it will begin to die in late spring as air temperatures reach 90 degrees F. Once the weed has reached a more mature state, multiple herbicide applications may be necessary which increases the potential for turfgrass injury.

  • Asked by Gail from United States, Spanish Fort, Alabama (coastal Alabama)
    09/07/2014
    Q
The Local Extension Service recommends Fertilome Broadleaf Weed Control for Chamberbitter in ornamental beds.
Do you recommend applying to bare ground before mulching? Will it be effective applied in March, when Chamberbitter sprouts in May?
    A

Yes, it is recommended Fertilome Broadlaf Weed Control with Gallery will work best when put below the mulch layer. Do not apply pre-emergence herbicides in beds where new plants will be installed, as plant root development may be inhibited.

Depending on the region you are in, March is usually a good time to apply pre-emergents. Because preemergence herbicides prevent seedlings from developing, they are an effective tool against annual weeds. However, they will not affect established weeds. Timing is critical. They must be applied prior to seed germination. Please check with the Local Extension office for exact time in your region that is good to apply pre-emergents.

  • Asked by Ellis from Bath, Nc
    10/05/2017
    Q
Should I wait until spring to apply Ferti-Lome Broadleaf Weed Control with Gallery?
    A

The time frame for pre-emergents like Ferti-Lome Broadleaf Weed Control with Gallery is typically March-May. We generally recommend putting this down when the soil temperature is at least 55 degrees Fahrenheit. Pre-emergents can also be done August-November to control spring/winter weeds.  It is always a good idea to contact your local cooperative extension office to determine the correct application timing as this will vary depending on your specific region and what weed(s) you are targeting.

  • Asked by Head from Chucktown
    09/22/2015
    Q
Is Ferti-Lome Broadleaf Weed Control with Gallery good for Fall and Winter treatment for weeds in Centipede?
I plan to use Dimension (Pennington's) for crabgrass prevention in the spring, and Ferti-Lome Broadleaf Weed Control with Gallery in the Fall. Is that a good solution for fighting crabgrass and spurge through out year?
    A

You can use either Dimension 2EW or Ferti-Lome Broadleaf Weed Control with Gallery for spurge prevention, however Dimension is a much better pre-emergent for crabgrass, especially in turf. You can do a split application with Dimension for more control year-round; please refer to the product label for application rates and instructions. The Ferti-Lome with Gallery will only give partial control or suppress crabgrass, per the product label. For spurge control, good lawn maintenance including mulching beds, keeping adequate soil moisture, and fertilizing will help to control them. Also, hand pulling when weeds are small will help to minimize seed deposits.

You can also view our Lawn Care Schedule for Warm Season Grasses for more information about your general care schedule for Centipede turf.

  • Asked by Erin from Herndon, Va
    02/16/2017
    Q
Which is more effective Turf Trust Weed Control or Ferti-Lome Weed Control?
I know both have Isoxaben 38% and Ferti-lome is better priced, but want to make sure one is not more effective overall on controlling (not just suppressing) chickweed, clover and some dandelion before I buy one of the products. I plan on using Dimension in mid spring for crabgrass control) thank you
    A

We apologize but we do not carry any product under the name Turf Trust so cannot comment on it exactly.  We can say if has the same active ingredient as the Ferti-Lome Broadleaf Weed Control with Gallery is should be comparable.  Be sure to use the higher rates listed for clover and chickweed to get the best results, also it will only control clover and dandelion from seed.
