About Flea Powder Products

Flea powders, also called dusts, are made up of a fine powder that can be shaken onto surfaces or applied with a handheld bellows duster into cracks and crevices. All flea powders are not created equally, and some powders can control many types of pests, including fleas, and may not be directly labeled as a flea powder.

  • Often a flea powder will either contain a non-chemical insecticide ingredient (like silica or diatomaceous earth) or a reduced-risk insecticide, like pyrethrins, or a combination of both. For this reason, it is very important to read labels very carefully.

  • While there is flea powder for carpets available, many products are only meant to be applied to cracks and crevices.

How To Use Flea Powders

You might wonder if flea powder works on a flea infestation. Flea powders are a great product to use against fleas, but should be an addition to other flea control products for a complete control program.

  • The most important thing to keep in mind when using flea powders is reading the label instructions very carefully.
  • Most of these products are not meant to be broadcast on surfaces like carpet, pet areas, bedding, etc., but instead to be used in cracks, crevices, under appliances, under furniture, and other out-of-the-way places.
  • Flea Stoppers and JT Eaton Kills Bedbugs Powder can be applied to carpets, pet resting areas, and bedding.
  • Always apply very carefully; avoiding puffing the product into the air. Even though these are generally safe products, inhalation is still a concern.
