Ground Application

Use a minimum of 5 gallons and maximum of 40 gallons of spray solution per acre. Use of sufficient spray volumes and pressure is essential to ensure complete coverage.

Under the following conditions a minimum of 10 gallons per acre is required: narrow row soybeans, broadleaf herbicide tank mixes, perennial grasses, volunteer corn, drought or stress conditions heavy grass pressure or when grasses are at or near maximum height. Failure to use a minimum of 10 gallons per acre under these conditions can result in poor coverage and reduced grass control requiring repeat applications. Spray pressures should reflect a minimum of 30 psi and a maximum of 60 psi at the nozzle. Do not use flood nozzles.

Applications to onions (dry bulbs and green), garlic, and shallots (dry blubs and green) should be made in a minimum of 20 gallons of spray solution per acre.

    Grass Out Max

    By Betty on 06/01/2017

I barely applied the product and cannot say yet how effective it is. The product information booklet is extensive, but never states how many ounces to a gallon sprayer for use in home perennial beds. It says 8 oz. for an acre. I am guessing 1/2 oz./gallon for home use, but guessing is uncomfortable.

    Expert ResponseExpert response:
Thank you for your review. I apologize that the label is extensive and confusing. We recommend using a surfactant like Non-Ionic Surfactant to help increase the efficacy of this product. If you use the surfactant, the recommended mixing rate for one gallon would be 2 tsp of surfactant with approximately .4 oz of the Grass out per gallon of water per 1,000 sq feet. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

    Good grass killer

    By Joseph on 08/04/2014

    Verified Purchase

I purchased this product to use on my food plots. It arrived timely, and I mixed the product with 2.5 oz per gallon of water. I mixed in some sticker as indicated, and used a backpack sprayer to apply. I didn't see any immediate action (first couple of days) but finally noticed that it was working. It took out the crab grass in my clover field without harm to the clover. My plots are about 1/3 acre; I would suggest that you map out a route to insure complete coverage if you use hand sprayer like I did, as I missed a few spots do to walking deviations. I recommend this product for use in food plots.

    Takes Patience, But Very Effective

    By Happy on 09/29/2012

    Verified Purchase

We have about 12000 square feet of lawn with curbing and beds throughout. Kentucky bluegrass creeping into the groundcover of the beds used to be a real problem. Then my neighbor introduced me to to Grass Out Max. He had used it the previous fall and his beds look great. He said it took about a month for it to work. I tried it and it and for the first couple of weeks didn't see much difference, but after a month it did the trick. Now just an occasional touch up application keeps the beds looking good.

    grass out

    By Rusty on 01/12/2015

    Verified Purchase

I don't think the product works. I have applied it twice and at this point no action. unless it kills the grass soon it was wasted money.

    Expert ResponseExpert response:
What kind of plants are you trying to kill, and around which desirable plants? This product should be used with a surfactant, so you will only see limited results if you have applied it without adding a surfactant/spreader sticker to your diluted solution. You may also see limited or slower results during this time of year since the grass should be actively growing in order to absorb the herbicide. We would be happy to troubleshoot with you via email or via telephone at 866-581-7378 9a-5p EST.

Sort Questions
Q
Can I use Grass Out Max in my vineyard?
A

Grass Out Max (Clethodim Herbicide) can only be used only in non bearing vineyards per the product label.   Non-bearing fruit and nut crops are plants that will not bear fruit or nuts for at least one year following AGRISEL GRASSOUT MAX HERBICIDE application.

Q
Is Grass Out Max safe to use on Sunshine Mimosa, Perineal Peanut and Beach Sunflowers?

The landscapers that removed our grass and planted the above ground covers did not remove all the crabgrass roots. We now have crabgrass growing in the ground covers.

A
Grass Out Max (Clethodim Herbicide) is labeled to be used safely around sunflowers and Perennial peanut as tolerable to applications but does not mimosa.  We would recommend testing a small area of the mimosa before applying over the top completely.

Q
Will Grass Out Max keep zoysia, poa, Bermuda, etc. out of my tall fescue lawn?

If not what product will.

A

Grass Out Max (Clethodim Herbicide) is designed specifically for killing grassy weeds including fescue in ornamental areas without harming desirable shrubs and roses, it is not for use in lawns at all.

Since poa annua is so closely related to cool seasons grasses, like fescue and ryegrass, there are not any herbicides that can be applied to kill the poa without also harming the fescue and ryegrass. We do have one product called Prograss EC Herbicide, but it is very expensive. We recommend spot treating the poa annua with a glyphosate product and then just reseeding those areas.

Unfortunately, we do not carry any herbicides that are labeled to kill zoysia in a tall fescue lawn. You will either need to spot-treat the unwanted grasses with a glyphosate product like Roundup Quik Pro and reseed.  Fusilade II can be used to get rid of Bermuda grass in tall fescue.  You will also need to add a nonionic surfactant for best results.  Please be advised that Bermuda grass is extremely difficult to control and you will likely need to make several applications. With Fusilade II Herbicide, it is recommended to apply the product in the early morning hours or late evening hours when the temperatures are below 85 degrees Fahrenheit.

Q
Will Grass Out Max harm my Zoysia grass as I have Poa annua in it?
A

Grass Out Max (Clethodim Herbicide) will likely kill your grass since it is only safe for ornamentals not for use on turfgrass areas. Image Kills Nutsedge Concentrate & Certainty Herbicide are both labeled to control poa while being safe on Zoysia lawns

Q
Right now my bermuda grass is dormant. Can I spot spray winter weed grasses in my bermuda lawn with Grass Out Max?

If I spot spray grass out max on my dormant bermuda grass, to kill winter weeds/grasses, will it damage it? There is going to be no rain in next 7 days.

A

Grass Out Max (Clethodim Herbicide) is not labeled to be used bermudagrass turfgrass as it is for controlling it in cool season turfgrasses and other areas. Keep in mind that if the soil temperatures are below 55 degrees a post-emergent may not work. We generally recommend uaing Roundup QuikPRO - 5 x 1.5 oz. packs when Bermuda is completely dormant as it gives the best results even in colder temperatures

Q
Kill Perennial Rye grass but not Kentucky Bluegrass?

Will this kill off Perennial Rye grass in a mostly Kentucky Bluegrass (KBG) lawn without damaging the KBG? Cool Season Zone 6b. If not, is there anything that will? My front lawn is less than 2k sqft and don't want to burn it all down because there's still good KBG. I overseeded Rye into my lawn in Fall 2022 and hate how it looks.

A
Grass Out Max is a non selective grass killer, meaning it will kill your KGB as well. Unfortunately there is not a selective product that will remove one cool season lawn from another. The only approach will be to spot treat the rye grass with a non-selective such as Roundup QuikPRO - 5 x 1.5 oz. packs

Q
Can this Kill poa annua in Kentucky bluegrass and perennial ryegrass?
A
While Grass Out Max (Clethodim Herbicide) is labeled to control poa, it is also labeled to control your cool season lawn such as the kentucky. Unfortunately there is no selective herbicide to remove the poa from a cool season lawn. You will need to spot treat it with a non-selective such as Roundup QuikPRO - 5 x 1.5 oz. packs & reseed those areas. You could also use a pre-emergent such as Pendulum 2G Granular Herbicide in the fall to try & prevent it

Is juniper ground cover safe from Grass Out Max?

We have evergreen creeping Juniper lining our driveway. Grass has invaded and it's looking rough. Will this product kill the grass and NOT the juniper?

A
Grass Out Max states on the product label that juniper is sensitive to applications.  Fusilade would be an alternative to use.

Q
What temperature to use Grass Out?

Does it need to be a certain temperature to use Grass Out?

A

Grass Out Max will work best when plants are young, but actively growing. You can make applications usually starting around 60 degrees when the plants first start growing, and continue to make applications until temperatures reach about 85 degrees, but no higher, or you can cause damage to desirable growth.
