Per the Hi-Yield 55% Malathion Insecticide Spray product label: On Ornamentals to control Birch Leafminer, Boxwood Leafminer, Bagworms, Tent Caterpillar, Azalea Scale, Pine Leaf Scale, and Soft Scale, mix 2 teaspoons per gallon of water and spray thoroughly.

HI-Yield 55% Malathion Insect Spray is going to kill listed insects that are the actual cause of black sooty mold such as scale and aphids. It is recommended to clean the trunks, branches and areas where black sooty mold has developed with some soapy water and rinse off. Then, follow up with an insecticide labeled to treat for scale/plant sucking insects and apply as a foliar spray application.
For Ornamentals, the mix rate is 1.5 to 2 fl oz per gallon of water. Refer to the product label for more information.
