    Q
What is the best herbicide for poa annua?
I live in North Carolina and I'm having a huge problem with Poa Annua (annual bluegrass)is it too late too use Hi -Yeild with Herbicide or what can I use and when?
    A

Poa Annua germinates primarily in the fall each year so you would want to use a pre emergent herbicide in the fall to help keep it from coming up the following year.  Hi Yield Weed & Grass Stopper with Dimension is a fantastic product and one of many we carry that would do a great job for you. It can be hard to get rid of poa annua in lawns with a post emergent depending on what kind of turfgrass you may have. If you want to let us know what turf you have we can see if we have a post emergent product that would work for you.

    Q
What is the setting for a Scott's Edgeguard Spreader for Hi-Yield Turf & Ornamental Weed and Grass Stopper?
    A
We do not know the setting for that spreader and we are not sure exactly what to set it on.  However, almost all fertilizers, herbicides, insecticides, etc have treatments in amounts of so much product per 1000 square feet.  So if you can figure out what your walking speed is then you know anytime you apply any product that calls for so much of it per 1000 square feet, you always set your spreader on this setting.  You can calibrate this by marking off a 1000 square foot (10 x 100) area and placing 2.4 pounds of any type of product of similar granule size, or of the Hi-Yield Turf & Ornamental Weed and Grass Stopper itself in the spreader.  Start with a low setting and start walking your marked off area at a normal pace.  You can adjust as you go and find the basic setting for you to apply the product over a 1000 square feet. You can call VPG, the manufacturer, and they may be able to tell you what setting you should have it on.  You can reach them at 888-583-5296.

  • Asked by Matthew from La Verkin, Utah

    Q
Which is better, Hi-Yield Weed and Grass Stopper with Dimension, or Fertilome Broadleaf Weed Control with Gallery?
I am looking to treat a large xeriscaped yard that likes to grow crabgrass, chickweed, spurge and other weeds. I have used the Fertilome with good success in the past but the hi-yield seems to be a better buy in the 35# bag.
    A

Which herbicide is better will depend on the target weeds. Hi-Yield Weed and Grass Stopper with Dimension is used primarily to target crabgrass and other grassy weeds, although it is labeled to prevent some broadleaf weeds. Fertilome with Gallery will target broadleaf weeds only, albeit a more comprehensive list than those the Dimension will cover. Since these are different active ingredients, it is also possible to use both products if you need to do so to cover all the weeds you are needing to control.

Can I still plant tomatoes, or with they be unsafe to consume after applying Hi-Yield Weed and Grass Stopper with Dimension Herbicide?
I put it down today and I'm afraid a little may have gotten into my garden where I plan to plant tomatoes.
    A

The Hi-Yield Weed and Grass Stopper with Dimension Herbicide is not safe to be used in vegetable gardens and is not labeled for that use. Q
Will Hi-Yield Weed and Grass Stopper with Dimension Herbicide kill existing weeds?
Bought older home in Oklahoma, lots of weeds around ornamental juniper ground cover. What can I use to kill and then prevent weeds without killing ground cover?
    A

The herbicide in Hi-Yield Weed and Grass Stopper with Dimension Herbicide is only a pre-emergent product that prevents weeds from germinating.  It will not kill any actively growing weeds.  If you are dealing with grassy weeds, Bonide Grass Beater Over the Top would be great to use.  Otherwise Lontrel is great for broadleaf.

    Q
Is Hi-Yield Weed and Grass Stopper with Dimension Herbicide effective on Virginia buttonweed?
    A
Hi-Yield Weed and Grass Stopper with Dimension Herbicide is not labeled for Virginia Buttonweed and we are not sure how well it work for this weed. We recommend you choose a product that lists buttonweed on the product label for best results such as Fertilome Weed Out Lawn Weed Killer with Trimec or Image 70DG. Virginia Buttonweed can be one of the most stubborn weeds to control and multiple applications of an herbicide may be needed.
