While having maggots form in the Flies-Be-Gone trap is ugly to look at, it is a good thing. It means you have captured female flies that were ready to lay eggs, eggs that if laid outisde the bag would produce more flies that could potentially contaminate your food, infest your home or drive you crazy by buzzing by your face over and over. And you needn't worry about whether or not the flies are drowning, once they are in the trap they cannot get out and will eventually die.
