    Q
What is the difference between: Maxforce FC Ant Bait Gel and Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel
Maxforce FC Ant Bait Gel VS. Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel, they both have the same active ingredient. so what is the difference between the 2?
    A
The Maxforce FC Carpenter Ant Bait Gel has a different bait matrix than the Maxforce FC Ant bait gel to make it more appealing to carpenter ants. The manufacturer felt it was necessary to make a separate product specifically for carpenter ants because this species of ant can be so picky.

    Q
Is the Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel safe to use in a room that a toddler plays in?
I find the most ants in my sons playroom. He is 13 months old. Is the Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel safe to use in that room if he can't get to the bait directly?
    A
Absolutely.  Gel baits are preferred in situations where children are involved such as schools or day cares because it has a very low toxicity and it can be placed out of reach.  If the bait is placed out of reach then there will be no issues with your baby being in the room.

    Q
Does the Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel have a contact toxicity at later date?
I have ants in a bedroom wall (just above the top wood frame). If this gel is applied to that area, what problems might occur (ex: toxicity to a person in the future) when handling the wood to clean that area, putting up curtains, etc? Is there a time frame in which it becomes inactive (like sprays do)? Also, food is eaten in that room does the gel pose any health threat?
    A
Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel will not pose any threat to food or people eating the food in a room where the gel has been applied. Simply contacting a small dab of the gel should not pose any type of health risk at all. If you would like to limit any contact or exposure, you can place the bait into a bait plate station instead of out in the open area on a wall.

    Q
I have carpenter ants big time. They are on every floor of my home. How can I use baits with Suspend?
I have drenched areas and seen 1000s die in each spot, it's like detective work. Traced one trail over 200 yards down the street to a creek, one from my doug fir pine tree. They were climbing up and going across a branch and into attic. My nests in my home seem to be on one wall but on every floor, now that Suspend has been sprayed into walls and such, where do I put these gel bait and Advance granules to be best served. I read all your testimonials and ?'s and I have them all beat on the infestation magnitude. I first spotted them 5 years ago and treated a little but they beat me.
    A
We recommend that you use Termidor SC for the carpenter ants infestation instead of using the Suspend SC. Suspend SC works great to kill the ants that make direct contact with treated surfaces but it does not get back to the ants at the main colony. Termidor is unique because ants not directly exposed to the Termidor-treated area will be controlled as they come into contact with affected ants. This Transfer Effect means you'll see its effects on ants in one to three days, and most species will be controlled within the first week following the treatment. You can use the Advance Carpenter Ant Bait Granules and the Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel directly in cracks and crevices indoors to help get rid of the ants, and you can sprinkle the granules outside where ever you have noticed activity. If you decide to keep treating with the Suspend SC, you must make sure you are not applying the baits in the same exact areas where you have sprayed the Suspend SC. This would contaminate the bait and the ants would avoid it. Be sure to trim back any tree branches or bushes that are touching or hanging over your home to avoid having ants walking around treated areas.

    Q
How do I remove the tip on Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel tubes?
    A

To apply the Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel, first gently unscrew the solid black tip of the tube you would like to use. Replace this tip with one of the clear, reusable tips included with your order. Use either a bait gun or the included plastic plunger to gently expel the gel from the tube, similar to using a syringe. (You may need to pull back gently on the plunger to prevent over-application.) We recommend shaking the tube vigorously before application due to the high moisture content in this bait.

    Q
What is the difference between a consumer strength product and a professional strength?
I was reading your article on Fipronil and you refer to MaxForce as professional strength and Combat as consumer strength. What is the difference? I have some carpenter ants in my house and I think I found the nest because there is some frass on the floor. It is in the unfinished basement and they seem to be on top of the wall where the concrete meets the wood. I used some Combat and they took the bait. Is this strong enough or do I need professional strength?
    A
There are proprietary formulation differences between the consumer baits and the professional baits. The manufacturers do not share the specific differences with anyone. In many cases there is more of the active ingredient in the professional bait vs the consumer bait. In other cases the base or attractants are made of higher quality materials and therefore attract more ants in the professional baits. Only time will tell if the consumer strength product was able to do the job for you. If you still see activity after 3 weeks you may want to upgrade to the professional strength products.

    Q
Since it's toxic to birds, do I have to worry about my free-range poultry possibly eating "contaminated" ants?
    A
There should be no issues or effect on your chickens that may eat some ants.  The amount of active ingredient in the Maxforce Carpenter Ant Gel is so small there have never been any issues with secondary poisoning.

    Q
Maxforce carpenter ant outside - in a covered container?
I live in NY, so of course many of the more effective carpenter ant controls are not allowed here. I ordered "Maxforce" from you guys which seems to be a good solution -- but at least one of the ant colonies I have is under my driveway outside my house. I plan on making my own bait traps out of plastic containers with lids, upside down and with entrance doors cut out for the ants to get to the pesticide. Do you think that would be a good idea, and keep the Maxforce from drying out too quickly?
    A
Using the Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel in a bait station is a good plan. This will help protect the bait from the elements but still keep it available to the ants.

    Q
Is it normal to still see carpenter ants over a week after treatment of Maxforce Gel?
I used the max force gel in traps and they really took to it, but now I have not seen them in the traps. However, I still have some ants. Does it take over a week for the gel to spread to the colony, or is it not working? I also used some of the granules in a couple traps with the gel. About eight traps total, three with both gel and granules and five with just gel. I also sprayed the perimeter with the liquid I ordered from your company. Is it time to call a pro??
    A
It  may take longer than a week to eradicate the ants. The process of transferring the bait around and throughout the colony sometimes can take a while because there may be more than one queen that needs to be killed. We recommend applying the bait in areas you have not sprayed. The insecticide could possibly deter the ants from the bait.

    Q
Will Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait work for regular ants?
Will this product work on regular small ants as well? If I applied Talstar, can I not use this?
    A

Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel is specially formulated for carpenter ants. We would recommend using Maxforce FC Ant Bait Gel for any other type of ant you are treating for. We would not recommend any products, such as Talstar P, in areas where there is bait. It will contaminate the bait so that the ants will not consume it. Please see our Ant Pest Guide for additional information and tips about treating for ants inside and outside your home.

    Q
Can you use MaxForce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel in the yard?
Would this product help with carpenter ant mounds in my yard? I have used a Home Depot product and the ants simply close shop on one mound and open another. The reviews are encouraging, but most folks experience problems in their home. I have not seen carpenter ants in my home in some time, but in the yard, all over.
    A
Our first question for you is are you sure they are carpenter ants?  Carpenter ants are not mound building ants like other ants are.  They typically nest in wood or insulation that has had moisture damage, or in trees, stumps, and other natural places.  They are not known to build mounds, at least it is not very common.  What you are describing sounds like fire ants which can sometimes be confused for carpenter ants.  It is important to properly identify them because they require different treatments.  If they are carpenter ants outside, the best treatment is the Advance Carpenter Ant Bait Granules.  You can spot treat nests or broadcast the granule over the yard. The MaxForce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel is really meant more for indoors and will dry out quickly outside and not last very long.  If it is fire ants that you are dealing with you should use Extinguish Plus Fire Ant Bait.

    Q
Can I use Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel to kill European Hornets?
    A

No, Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel is not labeled to eliminate hornets; this product is only labeled for carpenter ants. A better option for nests that are on or within one foot of the structure would be Taurus SC. This has the same active ingredient as Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel and will eliminate hornets, as well as other insects. The rate is 0.8 fl oz per gallon of water. Be sure to apply the product in areas where you have seen activity so that they come in contact with the treated area. This product is a non-repellent so they will not know they are coming in contact with the treated area.

    Q
How long to wait after applying Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel to seal wood floor cracks & do ants mostly die inside the cracks?
I have water damage in hardwood flooring on the other side of a bathroom wall where the baseboard wasn't sealed properly. About a yard of a crack between two slats formed (blocked from view by a couch), so I'm pretty sure we have carpenter ants. I've laid liquid bait traps on the bathroom side of the wall and ants are feeding off that nicely. Haven't seen ants coming out of the slats, but there are a few dead ants nearby. So I want to squirt gel inside and then seal the crack. That's why I'm wondering how long to wait before applying sealant. And will applying gel into the crack kill them within so I won't see the feeding frenzy and dead ants outside of the cracks? Would appreciate any experienced guidance.
    A

Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel would only be applied in areas where you have seen activity from ants, it would not be applied in cracks in floors that you are sealing as that could limit the access to it.  Instead we would just recommend continuing to place in the areas you are seeing them for as long as they are taking the bait.  Keep in mind it can take up to 30 days or more to kill a colony of carpenter ants depending on the size of the colony and how many colonies you are actually dealing with.

    Q
How toxic is the Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bail Gel?
Do I need to keep my child out of the room for a certain time with the ant baits. Do I need to use special equipment while handling this?
    A
Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel is in a gel formulation which means that it is a not an airborne product and no one is required to leave the area being treated for any length of time. Be sure to follow the Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel product label and apply the bait gel directly into cracks and crevices or place it in a bait station to avoid accidental ingestion by children or non-target animals. This product comes in a syringe tube and will at no time require you to handle the product directly, so special equipment is not needed.

    Q
What are the directions for assembling Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel applicator?
    A

The cap that comes on the tube of Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel is removed (twisting off the syringe) for application and then you can place back when finished and store in a cool, dry place (away from extreme temperatures). It should be applied once every two weeks (cleaning up previous bait placements). The plastic plunger is applied in the back of the tube to disperse the product from the syringe. I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you need anything else.
