    Why was Miracle-Gro Miracid Plant Food discontinued?
    A

    We are not certain exactly why Miracle-Gro Miracid Plant Food was discontinued, however it appears that Scotts has replaced it with a different product for acid-loving plants that is water-soluble and much safer around turf and other ornamentals. Miracid may cause burn on non-target plants and turfgrass, so you must be very careful applying it. We do carry many other fertilizers for acid-loving plants from Ferti-lome, Dr. Earth, and FoxFarm, among others. You may browse all our Plant Fertilizers here.

    Can Miracle-Gro Miracid Plant Food be used on boxwoods?
    A

    Miracle-Gro Miracid Plant Food is for acid loving plants.  Boxwoods are not acid loving plants, so it should not be used on them.

    Does it have to be mixed in water?

    Yes, according to the manufacturer, Miracle-Gro Miracid Plant Food can be used on blue spruce. This product does need to be mixed with water. Please look over the product label for complete application instructions.

    Miracle-Gro Miracid Plant Food is labeled to be used on rhododendrons, azaleas, hydrangeas, camellias, gardenias, hibiscus, orchids and other acid-loving plants.  It may cause on non-target plants and turfgrass, so apply with caution.

    How much Miracle-Gro Miracid Plant Food do you need for 100 gallons of water for a foliage spray?

    Per the manufacturer, if you are using Miracle-Gro Miracid Plant Food outdoors, you will use 1 tablespoon per gallon of water. For 100 gallons of water, you will use 6.25 cups. If you are using this product for indoor plants, you will use 1/2 teaspoon per gallon of water. For 100 gallons of water, you will be using 1.04 cups.     Should I apply the Miracle-Gro Miracid Plant food to the leaves of my azalea or to the soil?

    Miracle-Gro Miracid Plant Food can be applied to both leaves and soil.  You should just wet the leaves and soak the soil around the plants for best results.

    Since Lilacs can do well in slightly acid soils, you could use Miracle-Gro Miracid Plant Food for them as long as the nutrients match what the plants need.

    Is Miracid dangerous if it comes in contact with skin or hands?
    I poured dissolved Miracid on my hands by mistake

    There should be no harmful side effects as the Miracle-Gro Miracid Plant Food is absorbed by plants but you can check with the manufacturer to be sure.  Take care to follow the instructions on the label and only use on plants it designates is safe for use. If it touches your skin, wash your skin with soap and hot water to remove it. Any side effect to a human would vary on the human and their sensitivity to the product.  Scotts can be reached at 1-888-270-3714.

    Can I spray Miracle Gro Miracide Plant Food on my Canadian Hemlocks that need greening up?

    We would not recommend using the Miracle-Gro Miracid Plant Food on your evergreens because it is not labeled or designed for use on them and is more targeted to acid loving plants like hydrangeas and azaleas. You would be better off using the Miracle Gro Water Soluble All Purpose Plant Food which is for shrubs, trees, flowers, etc.

    Can the Miracle-Gro Miracid Plant Food be used on lawns and evergreens?

    Miracle-Gro Miracid Plant Food feeds acid loving plants including Rhododendrons, Azaleas, and Hydrangeas only and is not meant to be used on lawns or trees such as evergreens.  We do carry several lawn and plant fertilizers here that would better suit those depending on your needs.

    Can I use Miracle-Gro Miracid Plant Food in my St. Augustine grass to treat take all patch?

    According to the manufacturer, Miracle-Gro Miracid Plant Food can be applied to the lawn as a fertilizer, but it will not do anything for fungus. You would need to use a fungicide like Propiconazole 14.3. This product is labeled to treat take-all patch in St. Augustine turfgrass.

    I grow roses in a greenhouse and I would like to avoid the use of acid injection in the water. I wanted to know if this would counter act a ph of 7.7 and an alkalinity of 132?

    Miracle-Gro Miracid Plant Food should be applied to acid loving plants such as Rhododendrons, Azaleas and Hydrangeas. We do have other Rose & Flower fertilizers that might better suit your needs depending on the nutrients needed.
